Hi Maurer Rose :
I think you could start gentle exercising shortly after birth (like, in a couple weeks) if you had a vaginal birth and felt up to it. Nothing too ‘shocking’ for the body, but exercise like you’re used to now. Within a couple months, i started doing light stuff on the pole. The main problem is finding the time and energy, even though the desire is there. lol.
As far as intensive ab stuff, yes, beware of abdominal separation. This (if you have it) will work itself out with time and corrective exercises. I think the website that I used for guidance was befitmom.com. My biggest advice would be to go slow…everything is getting back to ‘normal’ and takes time. But it’s a great time to work on ‘easy’ moves, like pirouettes, body waves, floor stuff…basically dancing that doesn’t require lifting. It will come! I know I was doing inversions again at about 3 months.

@Lina–immediately–heard a ‘pop’ and knew I tore it.

I have posed this question on here before, and I was SO surprised to see how many of us have pulled hamstrings in the splits. Ugh :/
Me…I have messed up both of mine. Time and therapy have helped, although I don’t have my splits and am trying different stretching methods to see what’s up with that. It is probably the single most frustrating thing for me. One ‘wrong’ move….literally….and you’re talking months of healing and annoyance. So, 3 m. is not that long for a hamstring tear, as has been said for many it’s a good 5-6 months. I know, sucks.

Great question…I consider myself advanced and I can’t split. And not for lack of trying. I have injured BOTH hamstrings in the splits. Sucks!!!

I am a ‘first gen’ poler…I started the same time Charley did. 😀 I just took a loooooong break and got back into it as far as learning new things in 2011. I appreciate how you guys feel, and it sucks to be in a place where you feel like you’re ‘not enough’ and that the pole dancing that the masses see is crazy tricks!
CK–good distinction between competing and performing. I agree.
I do say ‘I will never do rainbow marchenko’ hahaha! Seriously, there are moves I am just not interested in, and I say I have enough to keep me busy for a long time without adding anything new. Lol. I did learn to like the knee hold (one that I said no way to) 😀 -
remind us of this when it’s winter and dry weather please! lol 😉

scorpio switches? I do 4, starting at 3:09 here: https://www.studioveena.com/videos/view/53ada139-abac-4562-b7e0-4abc0a9aa0eb

Love that, Phoenix! ‘Fall in love with the work.’ YES. I have days when it’s a struggle.

I *just* posted a 15 sec clip! Eek! 😉
As to your questions…I personally don’t see a lot of craziness, bc I tend to follow a lot of ‘regular’ polers and that’s how I like it. 😀 I have followed some of the ‘stars’ before and it just got old. I prefer to interact with my students and peers. I really, really like clips actually…they are easy to reference. A lot of times, I do the clips more for me than anything. I love going back to see what I was working on without having to sort through 3-4 min to reference a specific combo, or remember in which dance I did what.
I also love the full length dances, of course. And I think it’s important for pole dancers to work on their skills in full length dances. But I don’t watch many videos all the way through, honestly. The sheer volume is overwhelming. I mean, how many were posted on this site alone in the past week? As much as I’d like to, I can’t watch videos all day, lol.
I do think that pole is hard…I definitely do think it’s for anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort….but the reality is that many who get into it realize that it’s not as easy as they thought it might be and they get discouraged and give up. I guess it’s common to think things will come sooner and easier than they do. Sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated. Also, comparison is tough to let go of.
Finally…I don’t hunger for new tricks. I’m not a trickster. I want (for myself and my students) to be the absolute best they can be, at whatever level they are. And most of all, to FEEL and to be set free through dancing. It doesn’t matter if someone watches my videos. It doesn’t matter if my photos or videos get likes or shares, what matters is what I felt and what led me to that point. And sharing with the world is good, yes, to give others a taste of that freedom and beauty maybe and inspire them…but first and foremost it’s for me, and what others think is not my business. Just my 2 pennies!

Some can pull it off (thinking of Marlo’s Glassdrops) but mostly it’s like a straight, continuous line. No accents. No crecendo. No pow!

haha, I don’t like to do bfly to flatline to superman either–too cliche. 😉 how about spinning chopper to inverted thigh hold (tammy) to titanic with feet on the floor? This just popped into my head because I was messing with it yesterday.

I have no idea.I have never been a trickster….and I don’t pay much attention to the majority of what comes down the pike as far as working on it. I often know names of the moves I’ve seen photos of, so I’m somewhat current with that, but unless I have a desire to learn it cuz I think it’s pretty or I can achieve it, I don’t bother messing with it.
I want to focus on playing with and varying what I already know. There is SO MUCH in that arena that will keep me busy for a long time. 🙂
The style I gravitate toward is not gymnastics/power moves/contortion, and in fact relatively few ‘tricks’ are done on the pole in this style that I like, such as the floor/pole fusion stuff, punctuated by a few on the pole tricks….not that the floor/pole stuff is easy or not ‘tricks’, it is deceptively HARD and often at times is much more difficult than doing a ‘regular’ pole move.

Still agree with what i wrote in the second link, that music is KEY and i have a couple moves in mind that i want to incorporate. And sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesnt. 🙂

I am with Charley…I don’t pole with students outside of studio time. For one thing, I just don’t HAVE the time. I love my students, and will happily help them how I can, but I imagine scenarios of burnout and feeling pressure to ‘teach’ when there isn’t a clearly defined ‘teaching time’ like a class or open studio or private lesson. I only have so much to give, and YES, while i LOVE pole and LOVE my students, I have worked so hard to attain my knowledge that I need to get compensated for my efforts, and if I started poling outside of instruction time with some students, I would feel like I was slighting my other students. I just won’t go there.

I have had it and it’s corrected (no surgery), just through time and strengthening. don’t know if yours is caused by pregnancy, but this site helped me: http://www.befitmom.com/diastasis_recti.html

Oh ok! I did SM way before I ever knew of brass monkey, lol. Ultimately that was good for me, because I could immediately feel how I needed to be.

have you tried it from shoulder mount? I think that might be ‘easier’ than the twist from CAR, if you’re having trouble finding the position. Hmmm
