Heyyy, this may be my first challenge also! I will do Fiona too, already have that song on my pole playlist and have been wanting to dance to it. 🙂

My performance name (I perform hoopdance) is Sparrow, taken from the Simon & Garfunkel song. It suits me and I love it.

MemberDecember 30, 2011 at 8:08 am in reply to: Your best/favorite pole accomplishments in 2011I have had a REALLY interesting year, to say the least.
A little background: I have been an at-home poler for years, since 2007. I don't really count that entire time, because I had a baby in there (https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif) and was off the pole for over a year due to that, and I started hooping pretty hardcore, and I've always found it difficult to balance the two (seems I'm always alternating between being heavy into one or the other). So…I host these hippie party things at my house–we make natural body care stuff and eat and drink wine etc…at one of them in the spring (April I think) , I had my hoop friend come demo her fantastic mini twins skillz. Then one of my friends there asked if I'd bring out the pole for a demo, most of my friends didn't even know I poled. So..I did. This was the first time I'd ever poled in front of a group (in jeans and boots, no less!)
Soon after that I got a groupon for a local pole studio , which I hadn't known existed, and went there a couple times. I met kobajo there. 🙂 She also told me about SV and I think also about another Pole studio that was going to open in July that's even closer to where I live.. I went at pole harder after that, started teaching small classes in my home studio for my friends that kept asking me to teach, and then I became a certified pole instructor last month. I will also be teaching at the pole studio that just opened up in July (the same studio kobajo teaches at).
Soooo, I went from a closet at-home poler that had never taken a class or been in a studio, to becoming certified and teaching in a studio, all in the space of a few months. Crazy!
I've also learned a bunch of moves this year, which has been amazing too. 🙂

@Angel–wow, that is so awesome.
I have never tried a 45 mm and can't even imagine what that's like, let alone a 38!

Yes, another vote for spinning pole and combos!

OK, maybe that's not an option!

How much would shipping be?

Hmmm, did they pull on the adjuster part of it? The mount is still secure in the ceiling, right? If it is, I bet it's fine and they had climbed on/pulled on the adjuster rod. If you can give the pole a good shake and it doesn't budge, you should be ok.

MemberNovember 29, 2011 at 2:13 pm in reply to: Events on Studio Veena & Pole InsuranceMy training doesn't count either, but his insurance is still much cheaper than the other quote I got. I think the more instructors that get this specific for POLE insurance, the cheaper the rates will go!

Contact Mark through http://www.insurance4poledancers.com. Policies are $270 a year, less if you're a member of the accredited pole groups (I am not).

@Charley, I don't have Netflix, do you have a link to the DM dvd's? I did a search and couldn't find them on amazon or otherwise…

When I choreo, I always do it to the music I'll be performing to…first I dance to the song over and over, letting the music wash over me and 'feeling' it, often the movements and sequences and the unique flow for that song arise out of that. I wouldn't and don't necessarily choreo the song start to finish, just maybe something flows in the middle and you build around that. For me, it's not a set system but pretty organic.
The key is the music, though, at least for me!

Yeah, Happy! Have long wondered where and how you've been. xoxo

Paulette….(hugs). I hope you can figure something out. I'm sorry you don't have his support. All the best to you. XO.

Do you have the book? I love the book, and there are lots of exercises for bringing out your EC (erotic creature) in it…

WOW–thank you! I will def be trying some of these products, and yes, great prices! I hate buying cosmetics because they have ingredients I try to avoid.

Organic Angel–can you post the link to the etsy store? I'm always looking for natural products.

MemberOctober 27, 2011 at 8:16 pm in reply to: Those who teach pole.dance, hoop etc How did you start?I teach both hoop and pole, either private lessons or small groups. I teach out of my home or rent a small fitness studio that's nearby. I don't have a lot of time, like polekitten said, so it's a very part time thing for me (2-3 a week). I've also been approached by a pole studio to be an instructor there too, so that's an exciting possibility.
For both hoop and pole, I never set out to teach. I had people approach me multiple times to give lessons, and finally I moved in that direction. It's something you really have to enjoy, and I really do.
One thing I have learned–don't give the store away. I have always, always charged for my classes. I think that's so important. When you start off not charging, it's hard to start asking your students for money later on.
Do you live in a metro area? I also make money performing just by having been 'seen' out and about hooping..this takes some time though (and luck). Having a website promoting you and your skills will be important too. My hoop site is http://www.cachethoops.com
