I saw a tutorial once for making a mat out of 2 crib mattresses and industrial Velcro.

Yes, I was in splits and heard a loud pop too….thanks for your experiences, guys. It’s so hard to try to rest it. Crap!!

I always stress how important it is to be grounded in the earth FIRST. Strength takes time to build, and with as de-conditioned as most students are when they come in to a studio for aerials (yes, they may be 'fit', but being a runner doesn't mean they have the upper body or core strength) they are in no way ready to take their hips over head after 5 weeks.
Most women don't even have poles, so they are only able to practice one hour per week.
I always wonder what kind of dancers these studios are turning out, as I can't imagine doing all these moves so quickly and also learning how to flow them together in a dance.

I agree that it’s too much too soon. Beyond the spins and inversions…are you even pole dancing? You’re there to dance, presumably, not just trick. I wouldn’t like it as a student, and I wouldnt teach that way…

I don't record entire practices. I never have, but I try to record a dance or moves I'm working on once a week or so to critique. It's so much more manageable than picking clips out of a long pole session.
I don't do fancy editing either, I''m still just learning the basics of imovie!

can someone clarify for me…because I'm spatially and directionally challenged sometimes, LOL…when you say 'inverting on right side' do you mean the POLE is on your right, or do you mean you're to the RIGHT of the pole? Or do are you referring to the hand that's highest on the pole?
-
you will find the vortex a lot easier to master on the big hoop first…I have many different sizes of hoops, like poles, they are all good for different things.
anytime I'm learning something new I try it on all my different sizes of hoops.

Let me know what you find out as far as minimum ceiling height to rig!
-
I don't think 10 feet is high enough to rig a lyra…sorry. 🙁 My ceilings are 9'8 and I know I don't have enough room for one. I think a double tab is most versatile and that's what I want to get.

Hi! How long have you been a fire performer?

When I do conditioning in my classes I always try to incorporate some that students can easily do at home (ie don’t req a pole) and I encourage them to do so. Anything you can do outside of pole class will be great!
-
So one area of possible concern might be when parents bring their kids to your house, if the pole is in a highly visible location like mine is.
My oldest daughter brought friends home yesterday (she’s 14) and I had the pole up. I don’t know if they commented on it to her or told their parents later. I figure as long as I’m not letting them on it and I don’t get any calls about it , it’s good. Ha.

are you FULLY warmed up before working on it? As with many moves, it's great to condition and work it from a descent, first.
Not that I do this move. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif But those are truths across the board of course. Take it easy, girl.

I have 4 kids, 2 poles at home, and I teach pole…so yeah, they know I pole. I don't practice around them often though, too annoying and hard to focus, LOL, and they def don't see the 'sexy' side.
I like that they're growing up around all kinds of cool stuff. Silks, lyra, hoop, pole…and I wish I had! 🙂

don't break yourself. 🙁
-
oh yes, handsprings and cartwheel mounts. those too.
i haven't tried a marley–not sure what that one is. i'm sure it's a nemesis move though!
-
…twisted ballerina on left side. UGH
-
Ah, I get it what you mean now, cupcake. It's kind of hard to expain what I *thought* you meant by the leg sweep, which is why I was confused, now I understand. 🙂
-
cupcake–trying to picture what you're saying. If you're shoulder mounting on left shoulder, sweeping right leg from ground around to the right and up, and left leg is tucked?
-
First, I wouldn't say 'everyone else' can do them. 😀 I can only do EG Aysha on one side for some reason, the other side's elbow hurts like a mofo when I put weight into it. Forearm grip feels completely unstable to me at the moment, though I want to nail that too.
Go slowly is my best advice. Your body needs time to figure out and adjust to what you're asking it to do. It will come!!

What is your conditioning regimen like? How are you building strength? What is your posture like? Do you have a video of your spins? Are you engaging your shoulders and keeping scapula neutral? Your body is giving you signals that something is not right, listen to it.
