Do you mean a hold sort of like what i do at 1:35 here?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sam4uWLNlEE Just want to be sure I know what you're asking. It would be easier in person! 🙂

Don’t use the pad on carpet. I didn’t even need it on hardwood floors.

Lil mynx is a great pole. That, x pole and platinum stages…I’d recommend any. I only have exp with the mynx and x pole though. (I’ve owned 2 mynx’s)

My impression–I wouldn't buy it. It's $406 USD, I have no info on the mm, the finish, how the pieces lock together, how to switch from static to spin, how is the top of it held in place, AND it's top loading? I paid less than that for my X, which I knew was a good pole and knew what I was getting.

Keep me updated on your patch test. I've toyed with the idea of dyeing my hair with some bright semi-permanent color but don't know how it would go with henna, and then back to henna.

I can't beleive there are so few choices for pole mats out there, too. I would love to get some more in our studio, but don't want those bleeping yoga direct mats. Litlbit–that is awesome!!

MemberJanuary 11, 2013 at 11:21 pm in reply to: What do you look for in your instructors?Fascinating discussion, and it's so interesting to read the perspectives from students, teachers, and studio owners.
I never had a classroom setting to start out with…for many of us long-time polers (Charley, Chem…I've 'known' you since the SF forum days!) we had a unique beginning that it's interesting to even ponder the situation from a student perspective. I think that, in general, students can't know what to look for, all they know is they want to POLE, but they will feel the difference between a teacher really caring about them and a teacher that is only in it for other reasons, whatever those may be. Hopefully the caring teacher is also knowledgable!
unless someone has a background in other types of fitness, they should have at least a year of pole under their belt in most circumstances. I feel like teachers need to find out who they are as dancers, and there is so much to learn, that it just takes TIME before you even get to the point where you think 'I can teach this to rooms full of students'.
Comps and titles mean nothing to me as far as teaching. As has been stated, one doesn't = the other. I want to see the instructors keep learning and love what they do.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she has it set back to static, since she told me (we talked in person, I told her to post here!) that it goes down a bit and THEN gets stuck. I can't imagine what the deal is. :/

no advice, b/c I can't imagine what the problem is, but I hope someone on here has some for you!

Ooh, where do you have it rigged?
Lyras can be taped or untaped…I prefer taped.

I’ve been thrilled with my pleasers. The other brand I’ve tried is highest heel. LOVE the look of the show, but after only 2 wears the heel started to separate from the sole. I won’t be buying HH again. 🙁

I don't use fluoride toothpaste. I use almond oil as eye makeup remover and facial moisturizer, fyi. LOVE IT.

I don't do oil on my hair at all generally, but sometimes I'll take some almond oil in the palm of my hand (just a a few drops or more if your hair is long) and sprinkle a few drops of water, rub palms together and run through my dry hair.

I have totally done the olive oil conditioner (haven't tried CO but I'm sure it would be the same) and like JeHanne, it took me SO LONG to wash it out. A little goes a long way! I seriously used way too much and my hair was crunchy. LOL.
I use the very mild Dr. Bronner's liquid as shampoo and then an apple cider vinegar rinse . I think may hair is decent. haha. I love your conditioner recipe, tacha! Unfortunately, here in the US we really have to seek out some of those ingredients, but I want to try it. 🙂

I bought 'Pole Spin'…once. I thought it was horribly written/edited and like you, I didn't get info or knowledge from it since it was just 'fluff'. Bummer, huh? I haven't seen any other pole magazines.

Lessons are great. I have often wondered where and how Veena learned everything!!
