I have tried and tried the sg mount with left arm high, and I can't even get close. I feel REALLY solid in it with right arm high though, which kinda makes sense b/c it's my stronger side and isn't the upper arm taking more weight? I can't really tell when I'm up in it. lol. But then, as I said, my left arm is the upper arm when doing this off the pole, so it's opposite.

I think most of us prefer to invert from the left side of the pole because the bottom arm is the dominant arm. Same with the SM.

My training has come from here and watching yt. To me, it really helps see to moves demo'd both sides, but I realize the harder the move, the less likely that may be.

Interesting! I forgot to say I'm right handed. Danielle and Charley…when you cartwheel is your left hand always on top then? For me it's my right hand on top, but I aysha off the pole with my right on the bottom. I need to see if I can do it the other way off the pole. Hm!

I don't think they had them before because there weren't any certs out there. I think certs are awesome, I have one myself, but I also wouldn't use them as the final benchmark in whether a teacher is 'qualified' or not.

To paraphrase/quote aerial dancer Rebekah Leach: certifications are meant to show that you have obtained a particular knowledge and document from a 3rd party source that you've put in time & effort to be good at what you do. HOWEVER, technically speaking there is no such thing as certification in aerial dance of any sort!

What is valued in the industry is EXPERIENCE. What makes a qualified, well-trained instructor is much more than waht can be learned in 2 days or 2 weeks. It is just not possible to get everything you need in that time.

Aw! Hugs to you. Frustration is normal…some days are better (worse) than others for sure. So what CAN you do right now? And just so I understand, you're working on doing a pole hold?

What was your workout regimine like before starting pole? Are you giving your body enough time to recover between workouts? There are so many factors…and giving yourself TIME is a big one!!!

LOL-it's the one where you go into a reverse handstand, V the legs, and tip hips, hook one legand push off spinning backwards. The foot of my hooked leg comes close to my straight leg. I will try it slowly in heels and see what happens. 😀

Yes, that's exactly what I do too! I have never tried headstands though. Great job, LL!

Well, I can't handstand just by bending forward. I need a step back and some momentum, and I think that's ok!

where did you read that? are you sure that was for LM? Some people put a circle piece of wood under their x pole dome. that is entirely different.

@Creativity…what's the worst that can happen (assuming you keep a grip on the pole)? you'll just tip over and land on your feet. 🙂 That's what I tell myself, anyway, to get up the nerve.

How do I pick just ONE. ha. I would say the one I've worked on the longest is the knee hold. Actually, I don't try to do it a lot, because I just don't LIKE it, but I do want to nail it.

bumping this thread up! Not only is it a great one, but I'm wanting to get either 7 or (gasp) 8" shoes (not really, but would love to try some!). I'm used to 6's…how big of a difference is it going from 6" to 7"? Do you have a size preference? (lol, this sounds so naughty)

absolutely. dancing in heels is a whole new world. and this is also why learning to do inversions without kicking or placing the bottom of the foot on the pole is important..can't do that in heels!!

    practice. practice. more practice. 😉

@Pankake, you haven't had any luck with Mika? Seems like some of their tops are specifically designed for women with larger chests.

Are you scared of actually doing the move, or scared that you will re-injure yourself? If you're scared of tipping back, yes, get a spotter. If you're scared of re-injuring yourself and have JUST gotten back on the pole, work on lots of strengthening exercises first and take it slow. It would be awful to re-injure yourself doing this! (and not worth it) This move is such a tough one. GL!
