oh, I was going to leave on the 19th but I think I may extend my stay for one day to see the competition. I will surely drop by your spinning class! See you in London 🙂

OMG! Bugsy, I love that Twin Peaks video! It’s been on my favourites list as well 🙂 Do you teach spinning pole on Fridays? I’d love to drop in.

No tape? That seems really dangerous. Your hand could slip easily. Do they at least provide crashmats?

I love aerial yoga! I recently wrote a blog post about it:
http://aerialhoopla.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-wonders-of-aerial-yoga.html
Of course you can practice at home but having an experienced instructor who can correct your poses really helps.

These machines look a little scary too me, kind of like medieval torture deviceshttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif I think I would be afraid to use them. They seem like it would be easy to injure yourself if you push too far. I think resistance bands or partner stretching would also work well.

One of the first pole performers I've ever seen was Zoraya Judd and she became my first ever pole crush. She is so strong and dedicated and has unique style. I just wrote a post about her on my blog:
http://aerialhoopla.blogspot.com/2013/03/pole-idol-zoraya-judd.html
My second pole crush was my instructor Patryk Rybarski. His pole career is just beginning but he already had some success at International Pole Championships in Hong Kong were he was a runner up in the men's division and an appearance at Pole Art 2012. He's an experienced contemporary dancer and I think it shows in his routines

There are so many others: I love Felix for her sweet personality and bendiness, I admire Alethea for her sexy slow style, I could go on and on https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

MemberMarch 21, 2013 at 6:19 am in reply to: 19 months into my pole journey and I want to go back to basics…I think there's no shame in starting over and lots of us do this. I had been going to classes for a year but when I got my own pole I decided to learn things on my own from the beginning. It makes sense since the basics are in my opinion the most important. It does not matter how many times you repeat them. And repetition is the essence of learning anthing. I think it also has to do with the fact that in the beginning we are usually impatient to learn new things and make fast progress but there are some things you can't and shouldn't rush. I also don't like it when studios teach too many new tricks at once without repeating the old ones and not allowing for some things to sink in. Often after 2 years of learing you realize that you need to go back to basics because you know how to do an aysha but you don't know how to do simple transitions like a pirouette and therefore cannot put together a routine or your left side is too weak which creates an imbalance in your tricks and you cannot link them well together. Perhaps it would have been better to start slow in the first place and learn things properly. But if you didn't do that going back and repeating is the best thing you can do.

MemberJanuary 7, 2013 at 5:48 pm in reply to: The right thing to wear for aerial silks trainingIn my experience the most comfortable thing to wear for silks, lyra, hammock or anything like that is a catsuit. 🙂 Than your whole body is covered to protect you from any burns and you have complete freedom of movement with nothing holding you back.
You could also wear a bodysuit with leggings underneath (but not tights because your feet need to be bare to climb the silk). Make sure that they cover your knees and armpits as you may be doing drops when you land on your knee pits or armpits. Generally the more body you cover, the better 🙂
With a shirt or anything two piece, even if it's tight, I often find out that it pulls up when you do the moves or go upside down because the silk drags your clothes with it.
Of course you need to take off all jewellery and don't put on lotion before the class 🙂

Really??? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif Than I guess the second class must have been TG handspring and iron x https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

One advantage of Pole and Aerial is that they also offer silks and lyra lessons which are rather hard to find elsewhere. But than again, you do not usually learn those things at home as they require special rigging and at least 5 meter high ceilings, so you still need to go to the studio for that. It's nice to have some other source of reference though.

great idea! I so need this challenge, my non-dominant side has been neglected for a while. 🙂

If your torso is against the pole than you're not really gripping with your elbow, do you? Doesn't it make it a Forearm Grip Aysha than, not Elbow Grip?

I love that Studio Veena is such a supportive community. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif We are all friends here and though it might look like a mutual adoration club sometimes I like it this way. We all need a little encouragement sometimes to keep us motivated in what we do. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
I wouldn't like it to become another You Tube where people post really nasty comments just because they can.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif
Besides, the truth is nobody likes to get advice that they didn't ask for. So unless someone specifically asked for help, don't volunteer it. If you don't have anything positive to say it's better not to say anything.
People are usually aware of their little imperfections and we don't need to point it out to them. Unless maybe when you are that person's instructor and you are responsible for teaching them that move correctly. But even a good instructor always offers more praise than criticism. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
We learn a lot here on SV from watching the lessons and other people's videos as well as from chats and forum discussions. Most of us are amateurs anyway, we pole dance for fun and we don't expect it to be perfect. But Eva if criticism is what you really, really want and need – I dare you to post a video and we will be happy to critique it. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Rihanna's "Skin" always does it for me. Also Sade's "No ordinary love"

well, not all guys can invert and shoulder mount at their first try – only those who are already fit. My brother, for example doesn't do any exercise at all. He tried to pull himself up once on my pole and couldn't really do it. He just said: ugh.. this is tough! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif

This video is shot in a very interesting way. Kind of looks like pole dancers skewers https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif.
The music is very hypnotizing too.

MemberAugust 25, 2012 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Anyone not like platform/clear heels for yourself? In the beginning I wasn't into heels at all. I preferred dancing barefoot, it felt more natural to me. But recently I discovered that heels make you move differently and more sexy and I want to explore that side of pole dancing too. It will be something different for me. So I just ordered my first pair of Pleasers (clear platform of course 🙂 ). Can't wait until they get here so I can try them!
