I just learned how to slip down between the thighs in superman (my body sticks to the pole like glue) and that has been a huge victory for me! Now I can flip my grip to be the proper one and pull myself back to the pole for aerial shoulder mounts and, possibly, titanic! So excited!

Try using a brace board like a piece of plywood about the size of your mount/dome and put it between the ceiling (right in the middle of the joist) and your pole. That will spread out the weight evenly. 🙂

Scorpio is a favorite move, and I like both versions. I’m different I guess because I feel more comfortable in the short version. That may be my open hips though. Both versions hurt like hell until you’re doing them every practice, then it does lessen a bit. I remember thinking, “am I the only one?” because nobody was ever mentioning how much scorpios hurt so I thought I was doing it wrong. 😀

Agree with all above, cross ankle release is a move where your body is close to the pole, creating a faster spin, not to mention being upside down makes everything seem 100 times faster! You’ve gotta be prepared to exit safely should you find yourself going too fast. A gentle push from the floor can be intentional and attractive and a good place to test your limits.

Your pole room looks super fun, you’ll def enjoy working out in there! I’ve found studioveena to be the best “studio” for me and Veena a wonderful and safety conscious instructor, allowing me to learn at my own pace, with people I like to be around, and very encouraging to boot. It really is a great investment in yourself. Happy poling!

I have a permanent mount, and yes the ball joint piece is oily/gooey. Shouldn’t be an issue. Youve got to find a ceiling joist and screw the mount into it. You may or may not need a piece of wood to “expand” the width of the joist as the mount is 4″ wide whereas the ceiling stud is only 2″ usually. I’d get a handyman to take down the light fixture and put up your pole no need for an electrician.

That is a regular split grip. Yes, cup and true grip are the same also. Veena has a Gallery that shows all the grips, if you wanna check that out. Nice Extended butterfly!!!

Split grip and Bracket grip are the same, just different names. If you could upload a pic, that would be most helpful in determining and explaining the grips. I’m curious myself on twisted grip and how much difference there is from regular split grip. I was just going to post a question on it!

I was able to do extended butterfly before inverted D, though it happened quickly after. It’s all in the strength of your split grip. When I was in butterfly one day I just scooted my heel on the pole up/straightening my leg and it was a surprise because the week before I had tried to do it and didn’t feel secure enough straightening the leg. Keep trying if you feel safe and I bet you’ll get it soon.

So excited because we are making plans to go. @foreveraflowerchild go to http://www.poleconvention.com/ and all the info is there. There are quite a few different options, price wise.

Ooh you’ve all been so busy!! My last few challenges speak volumes about my ability to complete a daily challenge but since this is a pole challenge and hosted by my instructor, I suppose I’ll try extra extra hard to finish it! 😀😋 great start to 2015!! I definitely don’t pole every day but I’ll record 2-3 days’ poses at a practice and see how it goes. Happy new year!

Sarah Jade is the reason I started pole, so slinky and sexy and yes…seemingly boneless! She is my sexy side idol. Then, I fell in love with Sergia Louise Anderson and her lyrical dance style. Then, for the strong athletic side I adore Samantha Star. I love and appreciate all styles of pole and all dancers, tbh. It takes hard work, dedication, and perseverance to even do our sport, let alone become professional, so everyone who does it deserves to be idolized a bit!

Fantastic idea! Love several of these you’ve already picked out, all these low pole & floor transitions are awesome and soooo pretty!

On ig there are three dots and you press those and copy share URL and pop that into your browser and bam! It’s your clip as long as you keep it.
Agree about advanced combos. It’s time consuming searching for unique intermediate and beginner ones, but those are the ones I care about for now. Well let’s be honest, I enjoy the search. 🙂

I’m only beginning to combo moves together so I’m working on the basic ones you see everyone doing. I try to write down the combos I do and new ones I’d like to do on notecards. Only thing is, they’re constantly changing when I learn new things and when what I envision doesn’t really work out irl. I guess that’s what combos are, always wip’s. Pencil is my friend.
Right now my fave combo is one is saw on ig from biapoledance with an aerial invert -> gemini -> genie-> side superman and the cupid -> sg Ayesha but then I guess that’s more of a transition, idk. I tend to be wowed by transitions the most.

Oh my, that last pic is adorable Mae!!
Today was a tad scary for me because this is the pose in which I strained my rotator cuff during lets get flexy. I pushed too hard apparently and I’ve been babying my shoulder ever since. This time I did the beginning modification and I’m perfectly happy with where I’m at now. I’m just not super twisty. Yet.

MemberDecember 2, 2014 at 10:39 am in reply to: Elbow stands help rotator cuff injuries?Ok, this is so weird. Back in October I pulled or strained a rotator cuff during a yoga session. I have been resting it and doing light shoulder conditioning ever since, and *pretty much* avoiding handstand work since it seemed to aggravate it. However, last Friday I was doing some of these elbow stands during practice and I noticed that my shoulder felt a lot better. I mean, it has been getting better each day, but I’m talking a significant jump in healing! It’s not 100% or anything, but I guess I can say, yea this worked for my injury! So freakin cool.
