Pole finish is a very individual thing. I use stainless steel poles in the studio but have a powder-coated pole at home. Personally, I prefer stainless steel because I find powder-coated too grippy and makes it harder for me to perform certain moves. But it’s an individual preference. Everyone is different. I do think, though, that for a beginner, the type of pole is probably more important than the finish. You don’t want to get a cheap pole that is dangerous to use. I would follow Runemist’s advice and get a pole from Lil Mynx or X-pole. Lil Mynx makes a powder-coated static pole that is pretty affordable.

Thanks Phoenix. I appreciate it. 🙂

Regarding it sounding mean…I can understand that. It was not meant to be mean at all but honestly, I find that on the internet and even texting, it is difficult to interpret tone.
-
Phoenix, ok, I understand now. I deleted my comment that was directed to you.

I’m going to stop responding after this, but I just want to end by saying you really are reading so much into my comment and injecting your own negativity into it to a confusing level. I posted it because it made my ego feel good? Where are you even getting all this? Ok, I’m going to stop now. Have a good day (and I mean this for real, not in a sarcastic way, in case that is how you interpret it).
-
Stefana, don’t delete your entire post because of my comment. Other people are not always going to agree with everything one does in one’s life, and that’s OK. We all thankfully have the freedom to make our own choices and others have the freedom to disagree. If everyone agreed on everything life would be boring.
-
Again, there was no drama in my comment, but that is how you choose to interpret it. If you don’t like my comment, just ignore it. There are others who responded similarly to what I said, yet you didn’t react in the same way. I am actually confused by your reaction. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon, whichever pathway you choose.
-
Wow. Stefana, I do not understand your negative reaction to my comment. There is absolutely nothing I said in my comment that was speaking with a “heart on my tongue.” You say you are not looking for my comment, yet you post your dilemma on an open forum where people are allowed to post their opinions. You went on about how you were reluctant to take antibiotics, and I responded with factual information. I am sorry what I said wasn’t what you wanted to hear. I did not insult you in any way so I don’t understand why your reaction was so full of negativity.

I don’t understand the idea that just because something is natural that it is better for you. There are plenty of things that are natural that can wreak havoc on the body. Either way, one is attempting to change their body chemistry, whether the medications are synthetic or natural. The difference is, synthetic medications have been through rigorous testing, whereas natural medications have not.

MemberSeptember 23, 2015 at 1:44 pm in reply to: Anyone Learning from Studioveena Exclusively?I go to a wonderful studio with a knowledgeable and caring instructor whose priority is first and foremost for the safety and comfort of her students. However, she also encourages her students to break out of their mental blocks and attempt things that she knows are within their strength-level. I think encouragement is so important otherwise those who are held back by fear would never try something knew.
For me, Veena’s lessons are a supplement for what I learn at the studio and for this, are an invaluable resource. Personally, I would not be comfortable learning solely online because I do not feel safe without a spotter. Also, I tend to be a procrastinator, so if left to my own devices, I would not be as consistent with practicing solely at home.

I think there’s a difference between an instructor teaching a move in a beginner class and EXPECTING that everyone be able to do it. We practiced elbow stands in the beginner classes I took but we were not expected to be able to do them.

I agree with chemgoddess1! Take out the invert.

I looked up ultrasonic spider repellants and it seems like they’re a scam product and that studies have shown that ants and spiders were unaffected by them. Kind of like those ultrasonic bark control devices that are supposed to stop dogs from barking…they don’t work!

Clean out the attic, spray the entire attic, especially the corners and any nooks and crannies between the beams with a spray that is formulated to kill spiders, sweep everything out and get a dehumidifier. Or, hire an exterminator.

This happens to me all the time.

Do you mean hyperextended elbows? I have those. You shouldn’t have a problem, but be very conscious of not fully extending them because that could put too much stress on your joint. For example, let’s say you’re on the floor in a plank position. Hyperextended elbows will naturally face forward. Instead, make sure to turn them in.

Thank you!! This sounds great.

Allyson Kendall, how long does it take to remove the pole from the stage? Would it be annoying or even feasible to take it on and off when you use it (so it doesn’t get ruined from the elements)?

MemberJuly 8, 2015 at 11:08 am in reply to: Elite vs. Professional Pole Dancers: The Odd Distinction (RE: Veena Training Course)I think people are getting caught up in semantics.
There are athletes who are elite in their sport. Who reach a level of perfection and skill that others will never accomplish. These people are often trailblazers, as they often create new moves, new challenges. Shaun White (the champion snowboarder) is an example of this.
It is a fact that some few, special people reach this level and others never will. Be thankful for these elite athletes, for they inspire others to dream and to strive.

It will take some time for your skin to get used to the pole. In the beginning it hurts like hell!

What if you don’t make a choice for either/or and do both?
You have just two years of school left. Two years goes by in a flash. In my opinion, finish school. Having a psychology degree can open you up to many opportunities that would make you hireable and would be financially beneficial. In my experience, even if you don’t get a job in exactly the major you went to school for, depending on the position, just having a bachelor’s will give you a leg up on someone else who does not have a degree.
If you don’t finish your degree now, it would be much harder when you’re older and working full-time, needing to pay the bills, to go back and finish a degree.
This does not mean you shouldn’t pursue dance. Why not take a year off after graduation? This way you’ll have the best of both worlds.

MemberJune 25, 2015 at 8:28 pm in reply to: New to Pole and disappoint to the point of quitting!!Lischacha91: Yelp has an algorithm that sorts reviews according to how many reviews one has written, whether one has a picture on their profile, put a location, etc in order to weed out fake reviews. Your review is probably there under “reviews not recommended” or something like that. If you scroll down the page the link to see the hidden reviews will be there. Not sure if this is the same in the app. If you eventually write more reviews for other things, this review will probably then show up on the main page. This has happened to me.

MemberJune 19, 2015 at 7:39 pm in reply to: “Lollipop,” or freestanding pole/lyra hybridKrissykiki: Trapezerigging.com has an indoor Lyra rig that can also be kept outdoors that is 8 feet tall. I know that would be too tall for you to use indoors, but if you can put it somewhere outdoors, it might be an option. I forgot the exact price but was around $500 if I remember correctly. The hoop itself you can probably find on eBay for a lot less than it is sold on the site.

I find it really hard though not to arch your back when your legs are gripping the pole and your arms are down at a distance. I just can’t get over this hurdle. 🙁
