oh i know cant wait for new pole to come in and get set up won’t have much room to swing, but can atleast jump on whenever i want https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif right now it’s a good hour to heat up the attic enough that it’s not totally freezing https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_smurfin.gif

no i think i’ll stay mysterious atleast name wise https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_batman.gif like Veena, I have a "pole name" which is Camila it’s one of the first things i read when i found that pole dancing book pick a "stage name" it’s like an alter ego so you can be whatever you want to be cause your just this character you create innocent girl next door? brooding and mysterious? girly girl? it’s just fun thats another reason i would like to start looking fo rsome pole clothes things other than just shorts and tanks when we had a party on halloween it was so much fun dancing in our costumes it’s just like wearing heels or using low lights it just adds something to it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_king.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_queen.gif

see my comp.is downstairs and pole is in attic so i just watch videos and try and copy what i saw as far as hand or leg positions I wish i had a partner in crime around here to start (Finally!!) a pole studio in the area i know i’m not the only person outside of Boston or Rhode island that has an intrest in this https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

the picture you showed is close, but your legs are more in a butterfly position i’m talking more chopper legs straddling the pole in a handstand position, but to the side of the pole than you can extend one leg, whip it around and quickly grap the pole with atleast one hand so you can spin quickly (if you can get good momentum going into it on spinny mode looks better, but is harder easier w/boots? if i could just get it together with learning how to do things on this (comp.) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_question.gif there’s a video that explains excatly what i’m talking about, but i don;t know how to paste the web address or whatever to link you to it well i’ll have to check out those lessons Venna thanks for the response https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

omg Taylor too funny you sound like me i’ll be so good about what i eat all week, than come the weekend it’s like i grow an extra stomach to accomadate extra everything cookies/chips/huge cups of coffee milk ( i think i was born with an extra compartment for pizza) now in the summer i can basically get away with it as am alot more active and am happy with a healthy, not stick thin, shape, but over my vacation/holidays got in the habit of waking up at like 2am (prob cause am used to working 3rd shift) and making gooey peanut butter and jeely sandwiches can’t imagine how i gained 10lbs???… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif lol no biggi i’ll be back to normal in no time have a big night out planned for a few weeks from now so have a little extra motivation to work out https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif

ya know speaking of sucky practice sessions the last 1 i did started so bad i was thinking maybe i should just give up on this pole stuff for awhile (temporary insanity https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif ) i was like "thank GOD" for my friends at the studio https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif i was so frustrated and just couldn’t seem to do anything right than i stepped back and thought about how i would talk to a friend ( i would never talk to a friend the way i talk to myself sometimes can be very self critical, yet am very supportive/encouraging with others) i reminded myself how hard i have worked, how far i have come, the moves i have learned in just the last month ect basically a good pep talk after that i wasn’t really trying anything special i just had fun i ended up coming up with that combo that allows me to get into and stay in chopper position, plus got the split heel move don’t lose heart i’m sure your next practice will ba amazing! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

oh ya i have done that i get so frustrated trying to get something new (especially if i have been trying to get same move for a long time) that i just kind of throw myself at the pole with all this determination and no idea what i actually want my body to do i have walked away with some colorful bruises on hips ect this way i really want to try some new stuff right now but it’s def a 2 sided story brain is saying "LetsGo!!!!" body is saying "No Way" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_profileright.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_profileleft.gif think will relax now and maybe after work will jump on for litt;e bit (worked last night, but can’t sleep) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif I did do some strectching this morning though am trying to keep up with it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

i notice a big diffrence between when im on pole b/c i am really in the mood for it, and when i’m on b/c i know i should be to maintain strength even easy moves can feel like work when not in the mood but when i get in that "zone" i amaze myself sometimes what i really want is some "outfits" for the pole i don’t need anything outragous, just something a little fancier than short shorts and tank top i have some skirts/dresses and what not, but am looking for something i can wear for making vids thats playful ( i don’t know about you, but the right clothes/shoes/lighting ect make me get into it that much more) without showing more than i’m comfortable with I liked Veenas bottoms in her most recent vid cute side "strings" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumleft.gif i would like to order online but since you can’t try on clothes /shoes before buying, i don’t want to pay S&H, plus return shipping if it doesn’t fit, and yet more S&H for the exchange clothes/shoes especially where i put on 10lbs over holidays/vacation https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif (sizes are diffrent from designer to designer not to mention even if it fits, you may not like the way it looks) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

you got it first try?! GOOD JOB!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif i wanted to do this sooo bad https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_exclaim.gif have been studying you tube clips with this move but can seem to find pole with outside hand

i am literally dreaming of the moves i want to learn now i think about them so much i dreamt yesterday that i was climbing this super tall pole backwards i can’t reverse climb yet its one of the things i really want to be able to do the reverse aysha and straight edge spilt are the 2 i am wanting to land the most right now
when tried the straight edge split i felt like i was going to fall right on my head so frustrating i can catipilar up, but can’t climb backwards or do straight edge/straight edge split https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

Well again great job on new moves!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

oh i agree there will be someone who is just determined to go for broke before they’re ready https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
as for me though in my area there are no instructors closest is in Rhode Island (next state over) or Boston (which is an hr away) I wish pole dancing would pick up in this area there are no classes ect around here
i am going to try death lay eventually, but i know i am not ready for it yet like i said just suggestions seems not too many people post so trying to keep things moving if it’s put in lessons great, if not will search out a tutorial when i am ready to try it

so anyway does anyone else have suggestions for new lessons? seems i can usually think of so many things i want to learn, but now am drawing a blank https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif how bout the "scorpio handstand" (i think thats what it’s called) its more to the side of the pole like being in chopper position except in form of handstand and to side of pole theres a way you can kick your leg around the pole and make yourself spin around the pole to come out of it have seen it on you tube same girl that does "superman for charlie" and "the marley" it looks simple enough but when go to do it can’t really remember what is suppouse to go where https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

I can imagine it is scary https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif and prob very good idea to have spotter i would just rather have someone teach me the correct way of getting into/out of move as safely as possible as well as get any tips or advice Veena may have on this rather than attempt it by watching videos on you tube of people who are not only not breaking the moves down, but may be doing it incorrectly Of course there should be a warning to people who may want to learn it it is a very advanced and dangerous move and people should be remindied to use a spotter, mat, and common sense ( if you haven’t completely mastered superman and feel very confident holding yourself in that position don’t even attempt death lay basically being honest with yourself about your level of training on the pole ) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_idea.gif I was just requesting some diffrent options If a requested move is deemed to dangerous or there’s just not alot of intrest in a moves thats fine, just throwing out some ideas https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Oh believe me I’m not the girl picking at a salad at a restaraunt i like to eat basically i eat what i want (no matter what it is) in small portions ( usually https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) and take me out to eat after a night of dancing and it can get intense https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif lol

well i mentioned this on a diffrent post but i found a combo that allows me to hand in chopper positon (sometimes i can, but mostly i can’t)

i invert into crucifix, move to side of pole so am in scorpio positon, cup (i cup, not grip, the pole in the hand position Veena uses for shoulder mount, and drop legs into chopper position hope this wasn’t too confusing https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif much easier for me to show than explain will def. use that move in first video so you can see what i mean https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Thanks Taylor! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif Sorry to hear about the break-up https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I can see how stretching, dancing ect would be a release When I’m really into the song/moment I am in my own world I tell my b/f I’m " in the zone " https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_colors.gif It’s probably what people who meditate feel totally in that moment not thinking about or worrying about money, work, relationships.. whatever just enjoying your body https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif i have tried to explain to people when your dancing, or atleast me personally, you really have to be aware of your breathing and your body especially when doing more advanced stuff on the pole if your thinking of your bad day ect you could misplace a hand or leg and get hurt https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif It’s also why I like to write it just really makes you focus on one thing plus writting/dancing and things like that make me realize I have a healthy body/mind that I should be gratful for no matter what else is going on https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

the hot shower made sese same as i said with washing hands with hot water it strips your natrual oils thats why they say don’t take hot showers b/c it’s very drying to skin good thing for a good grip https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

My Tips on Keeping Pole Dry

wash your hands before using the pole i personally find using hot water and a drying soap like dish liquid or a harsher soap than what you would use on your body as it really takes the oils (natraul or from product) off your hands remeber oil and water don’t mix so to if you use cool water and a creamy type soap, your not going to have the driest hands you could have

keep your hands off your face/hair you can transfer oils from product, sweat, ect to hands and pole this way
use a seprate towel for pole and yourself if you want to go the extra mile you can have 1 just for your hands

take a minute to rest as often as needed to prevent getting over heated which will cause you to not only sweat more, but also produce more oil as you get fitter you will need to rest less often

keep something nearby such as cheap vodka to wipe your hands with i find for myself it works better than just using dry towel you only need a little bit and remember to make sure you completely dry hands after

try not to over-grip beginners tend to do it more often as the more often you do a move the more confident in in and less likely to be gripping the pole for dear life grip as hard as you need to to feel secure, but keep in mind over-gripping will cause you to produce more oil/sweat

wear clothes that allow your skin to breath and be sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing if your sucking things in to fit in it, or if it’s tight knit material you will be more likely to sweat

try using the ac or a fan to help keep you cool

don’t forget to stay hydrated keep cold water nearby (basically the cooler you can keep yourself the less oil/sweat you will produce)

wipe your pole with vodka/windex as often as needed on some days depending on heat/humidity ect the pole will need to be wiped every 5mins or more in better conditions you may not need to wipe it down nearly as often

I hope you found atleast some of this helpful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

January 11, 2009 at 1:14 am in reply to: How’d you get into pole dancing?

I had first come across poles at a club when i was 18 didn’t know how to do any spins ect, but i was really into it and soon had a reputation with my friends as being this crazy exotic dancer i couldn’t do tricks but man i loved to dance especially with an audience had the chance to work at a club a year later when a friend needed cash and asked if i would go with her to an amateur night i went and the guys at the desk insisted i apply for a job
i was so tempted but knew as much as i wanted to dance on stage and especially with poles, i didnt want to strip so that was a no go basically let the idea of really doing anything with poles out of my head for the next 9 years when got dragged to some store by BF and found a book/vid on pole dancing i still had no idea about classes, poles in home and what not, but always loved the idea of exotic dancing, so bought the book, studied it like there was going to be an exam, and found out about x-pole and classes (classes were a 45min drive out of state but i was determined)
i was so excited before my pole came in i went to parks, beaches, tried to find some way to get some practice in while waiting for pole i would look at street signs and fantasize about what it would feel like to be swinging around it basically it was totally by accident if i hadn’t gone into that strore and saw the book/dvd package (in clearance bin for 4$ no less) who knows if/when this would have happened for me talk about a lucky break https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

I have found that washing my hands with the hottest water i can stand (not to the point it hurts) with dish soap or anything that really strips the oil off your hands really helps if you have any residue from lotions/oils ect on your hands, even if you wash, but use creamy soft soap type stuff, you may still find it hard to really get your hands dry as oil and water don’t mix so trying to clean oils (wether your natrual ones or from prduct) with cool water and soft soap doesn’t really get the job done this is just a tip might be worth a try though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_thumright.gif

ps keep your hands off your hair and face as will get oils/sweat ect on your hands and use a seprate towel for face and pole (maybe common sense, but have seen people wipe there pole and there face with same towel …not a big deal, but not the best idea either) hope you find this helpful https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif

March 8th will be a year I can’t wait to make an anniversary video It feels to have learned so much in this time it has really made me appreciate my body even more than I already did I think it’s ability to learn, adapt, heal, ect is amazing I think pole dancing has made me more aware of how I treat my body as well i’m slowly learning to love stretching and breathing and although i’m always going to be a girl who loves pizza and choclate, i do think twice before eating food that isn’t fairly healthy

I did come up with a new combo (or atleast new for/to me) I started by inverting on the left side of the pole, going into crucifix, scorpio, (by bringing body to right side of pole) THAN the chopper (which most of time when try the regular way i either have to hook my leg quick or come crashing right back down) but my hands aren’t wrapped around the way they would be in regular chopper they look like the way Veena and alot of others grip when going into shoulder mount more cupping than gripping i spun around a little like that ( in chopper position was on spinny mode ) then into gemini, then down to floor
i thought i was taping all of this when i did it well dead battery ruined that plan, but it felt really easy to do so will do on first vid i post https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Ya the fact that it’s taking so long just to make/post a vid or pic is a little frustrating, but my friend who is really good with that kind of stuff finally called tonight (he is very busy as works out of state and helps his family alot) so am trying to set up a time for this weekend to get a little lesson on comps. and camera ect her’s to hoping https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I think it’s great that it’s going to be monthly I know my week flies by and I can imagine how busy you must be
I also think it takes the pressure off a little it’s plenty of time to decide what you want to do and actually find time to do it I’m game to be the first one to put up a challenge video if i could only figure out how https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif

Thats great your able to stay in touch with family that way I am always telling people how important it is to take pics my father really instilled that in me kids grow up so fast, relationships end, loved ones pass away it’s how you capture a moment that becomes a memory
i bought my camera for pole dancing, but have already found it useful for family and friends speaking of family, you look amazing so soon after having Henry! Congrats on re-learning everything so quickly too! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

oh before i forget just make sure you keep the battery fully charged and don’t keep it in a cold room last night i had the best practice session i have had in a long time it actually started horrible and was feeling very frustrated, but then i landed new move and got excited to keep going i thought i was taping everything so i could try to Finally edit/post don’t you know b/c camera was left in attic battery drained and only taped for the first 11 mins.!!! thats where i was mostly playing with radio/warming up i was so disappointed!! i can’t even go on pole for few days now as am so sore/bruised i really thought i was going to be able to post a vid and it was actually going to to be pretty decent o’well my BF was there for most of the good stuff so atleast someone saw it i was pretty upset nothing was taped, but lie he said I should be happy I got a couple new things and i can always try again next weekend but just a little tip top save you the same trouble https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_albino.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cat.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_nemo.gif

Ya my father is a huge fan of pics so I know I got it from him ( if it was up to my mom there would be no baby pics ect) he has got over 12 scrapbooks filled with pics, drawings i did as a kid ect very sentimantal like myself i also have scrapbooks i like them better than regular photo albums as you can add things like concert/movies tickets, decorate the pages with stuff from the craft store, and write in quirky little details about what’s going on in the picture. of course with a video as you said you also get to hear voces, catch diffrent expressions, and mannerisims def worth the money i think https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_profileright.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_profileleft.gif

I have been strectching (not everyday like I know i should) more latelty since we have got on this subject and was so happy last night when I believe it paid off i was showing my BF this move that I had attempted before, but did’nt have enough flexibility to correctly place my foot/leg and i wasn’t expecting to get it i was just getting into it to give him an idea of what it would look like if i was able to do it and next thing i know I’m in it!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif the moves is .. well picture sitting on the floor with legs open in front of you forming a V now picture bringing your upper body down towards the floor like your stretching except your on the pole in this positon with both feet on pole, one foot high, one low hands gripping in between feet don’t know what its called maybe "split heel" theres a video on you tube and i think thats what she called it it’s the same girl who has a clip named "superman for charlie" aslo a vid with something called "the marley" well anyway i was just so shocked https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif and happy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif as thought it would take months of stretching to acheive this https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_sunny.gif thanks for all the advice and encoragment!!!!
