MemberSeptember 22, 2010 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Plus Sized polers and your evolution …Check out my http://www.youtube.com/minicoopergrl You can see a big progression from me. You can see where I was my smallest, and then watch me start over again. I had a baby in Feb 09 and gained 80lbs so you can see me go from fluffy to slimming.
What are some tips, and realisms do you have?
Best advice is love yourself no matter what size you are. To me beauty is so much more than a size on my jeans, its in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes giving into temptation is ok, just dont live by it. I will have to say being in-between sizes isnt fun at all, im currently in one and it just sucks! What have been some of the difficulties with pole you’ve experienced because of your size?
There are a few – one is the negitivity from the outside world. Youve got to have a tough skin to post on YT. I still get nasty comments about my size. One guy in my MINI Coopers forum bad mouthed me on a different forum about me being a ‘big girl on the stripper pole’. I just delete them and go on about my day, why waste my time with someone who wants to bring me down. You cant bring LULU down!!!As for poling itself – sometimes I cant get a move down b/c im a bit bigger all around. I still cant do a split/underhand grip or a flag pole, I still blame it on my boobs! But I just dont give up, I will keep trying until my body says ‘alright you win, we can do this’. I always say we all have our hinderances, its how you work around them is what counts.
If you ever want to PM me, feel free!

Xpole is fantastic. They have done alot for my event!

Im trying to convince Will to let me go. Its only an hour from the house.
What day/time is everyone getting there???
-
Starting a little late. But my goals are.
Drink 2 bottles of water so I don’t drink my calories
After walking home, stretch and use foam roller
Reduce eating after dinner
ab exercises 3x a week
strenghth exercises 2x a week.
take care of forearms
Reduce coffee intake, and switch out of half and half and sugar.I’m just curious how you plan to take care of your forearms. Mine are achey as a result of trying to conquer the split grip, and any suggestions on helping them out would be awesome!
I also am not a fan of the split grip, I still cant get it. What I do to work on my forearms is I get some free weights (5lbs max for now), hold the weight palm facing up. Curl them with my wrist, this is best done on a bench – somewhere you can keep your arm flat. Then I curl with my palm facing down. Ive seen a difference in my forearms from it.

You got that right! If you do go back and take class, leave all your inhibitions at the door girl. Go in there with no shame (thats my theme in life – have no shame).
There are plenty of cuvry polers who are just plain awesome and I always look forward to see what they are working on.
Welcome to SV! We are a loving poling family! Hope to see you posting!

I met her at Pole Convention. She was just so sweet and so nice. She signed my shoe and it reads "Lulu Rocks!’ https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cool.gif

Im probably the best person you want to talk to about it. I have a husband who isnt a big fan of me spending my free time at class. I also have no pole at home so when I do go pole its outside of the house. I have a schedule set up so we all know where im going to go and at what time. Maybe having a set schedule would help too.
As for advancing, yeah you may never want to compete but wanting to learn and master those moves is a great feeling. Its great do be driven but sometimes you just want to have fun! I totally understand about having fav instructors, I love all of mine but I have only a few favs that I get the most workout out of.
If your looking for something smart and cheeky to tell him, tell him this. Exercising produces endorphins. Endorphins make you happy and happy women dont kill thier husbands! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Thank you Legally Blonde!

Ive been uping my water intake – typically 2l to 3-4l daily. Its hard on the weekends, I tend to get a bit lazy. I read all labels and avoid the HFCS route. I serve out my meals instead of eating family style. I make an extra portion so I can take it to work the next day.
as for the gym: I did 10min on the bike as a warm up. Worked on rotator cuffs, inner/outer thighs, wrists/grip, 12min of cardio and pushing it hard, push ups – both reg and reverse. Then I did abs. I do them on the ab bench but I lower it so I feel like im in the invert. I did obiliques w/weights – OMG its been 2 days and they are on fire still!
For Pole: I had a great practice last thursday, got lots of footage. Im getter much better about getting inverted. Just need to work on a particular move. Yesterday was just crappy, I almost cried in class b/c I just couldnt get anything. We were doing pinwheel spins but holding our back leg, my body just didnt want to do it. Then came the split grip/underhand grip. I cant do that to save my life! I understand its a push/pull but my body just doesnt want to do it. Plus I have 2 HUGE boobs in the way and my short stubby arms dont help either. Ok, done complaining now! I will get that grip!

Ive done spin on the xstage once at Pole Convention. I had alot of fun. The best advice I got from Amber Ray was to just do it. It only spins as fast as you control it.
Have you done spin before? I say if youve never really worked with it, id stay away from it from the comp. I would hate to see you do a move and not get it from not being used to spin mode.
I will say the stage will not tip! Im 250lbs and it held me with no problem. But that doesnt go w/o saying that it may sway if you put to much power behind it. I saw Bad Azz do it at PC and they ended up putting some weight at the bottom.

cobra pose rocks! I do it all the time when im warming up. I also do some bends back while standing and then do them forward to counteract the back bending. If im really warmed up, I will back bend.
-
Yes it will!!! Exercise produces those endorphins that make you feel good. Another good person to bring up as an example is Jessalynn Medairy. She will tell you she used to have serious anxiety and wouldnt want to leave the house, but with pole she came out of it. Shes a USPDF Pro too!
I know when I have crappy days, just dancing makes it feel better. It gets my mind off whatever is bugging me!
-
Im a former MK consultant. Ive done competition make up pretty much my whole life. You want much more on than you normally do for day time. I do lots of bold/dark eyes, false lashes, lots of mascara, bold lips. I always wear a foundation – either liquid or powder. I always dust w/powder when im done to set my look.

Epic win for webmaster!!! Those look great!

MemberSeptember 12, 2010 at 1:43 am in reply to: What makes us unique as individuals in our pole dancingThis morning, a thought came to me about the copying thing… I think the ethics of it vary by degree. If we are just dancing together, no one owns the moves or the combos. But doing routines gets into another matter. If you do the Allegra, that’s one thing. If you do a whole segment of Allegra’s routines, that’s a whole other thing.
Stealing moves = ok
Stealing choreography = not okMindy
I totally agree. We all learn the same moves at different points in our pole lives. Its when you take someone else’s routine. I knew girls in my dance class in HS who would use a routine from their personal dance class for the HS class.
If someone uses a move of mine, go for it!! Im honored that you like what I do and I have no problem you using it.

for the names: everyone uses different names at different places. At my studio a yogini is a basket. The only way for me to remember them is to just do them over and over. I know when my instructor calls out moves, I tend to forget them until she shows them.
Splits: I am like you. I can do a split on the ground w/no problem. im now lifting my back leg up. One day I want to rub my heel through my hair a la Alethea style. I say work on your hip flexors more, how much do you stretch them before you do a pole spilt. I can get my leg up there but its not pretty ….yet. I would stretch them out first and see how that feels.

I would absolutely love to have at least 3 different options for meal plans so I don’t get bored with the monotony as I am always on the go and this example is something I could definitely manage. I understand what to do to get my body where it needs to be, its the eating that always trips me up. I typically eat lean cuisines because they are fast and make the trip with me when I am on the go pretty well. I have heard that they aren’t so great though because they are high in sodium.
It’s true they are high in sodium, but they are okay in a pinch. There are a lot of things you can do to prepare for meals on the go…I spend usually Sunday cooking ahead and portioning everything in 1 serving containers so I have my food with me wherever I need it…there ore many things that don’t need to be microwaved which helps when I don’t have one available or when time is limited. I will post some food choices later today when I have more time…I want to help in anyway I can…you guys are my FAMILY…and we are here to support each other with EVERTYTHING!!!!
the sodium is used as a preservative for the food. Thats why is insanely high. I am slowly breaking myself of frozed meals. When I cook, I try to make an extra portion – that becomes my lunch the next day. I read somewhere that someone makes an extra portion they wrap it up and put it in the freezer so they have homemade frozen meals.

MemberSeptember 9, 2010 at 10:25 am in reply to: Just had my baby 2 weeks ago how long till I can pole again?First off, congrats on the new LO.
Im a 2-time c section mom. I had my 1st csect before I poled and the 2nd one after I started. My dr had told me no exercise for 6weeks after birth, which I think is pretty much the norm. I couldnt wait until my 6w were up, I was dying to get back on the pole. It had been almost a year since I got back. I will have to say that I felt like I had re learn alot since I lost alot of strength during my hiatus. Make sure you get to ok from your OB, like everyone said its a major surgery and they are cutting into your abdomen. Ease into poling, its gonna take a few attempts but your body will have its aha moment and let you do what you used to do.
My abs are much stronger than they used to be!

I try to visualize while im at work listening to my music but its hard when your trying to reassign a title and all you can think about is the sequence your putting together. Im going to work more on remembering my routines, I am famous for it and constantly forget what I put in it. I figured the earlier I have the routines the more I can put them into my head mentally.
Im thinking of changing up my routine at the gym. Im gonna do a 10min warm up on the bike, wrist exercises, rotator cuff, inner/outer thighs, 15 min of elepictal (this is where I kick the machines ass), then push ups (30-20-10 reps and doing dips/reverse push up), abs, then stretch. The good thing about gym is during the week its 24hr, so I will normally go when my youngest goes to bed.
Im also thinking of taking a few regular dance classes to incorporate different styles. Im taking a Hip Hop class pretty soon.
I love my music! Its pretty much sums up my range in music diversity. I would like to thank my broadcasting school for teaching me to respect the music! lol. My floor/chair is very cheeky and fun, the song is Holla Till You Pass Out by 3OH!3. Which im thinking having a fun costume – my fish shoes, velcro skirt to remove, maybe some chains since its got a hip hop feel to it. My pole princess really shows off my enthusaism in pole – The Sound of Madness by Shinedown. It was the theme to last years NHL Playoffs – im a huge Washington Capitals fan so I was gonna do something in the scheme. My pole diva is very dramatic and slow. 3 Libras by A Perfect Circle. Im debating doing pointe on this one since its gonna have alot of ballet feel behind it. Im stuck on that costume.
The odd thing is hubby was actually helping me stretch the other night! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_surprised.gif I told him id hire him to help me stretch and ill pay in the things I dont like doing https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif ! He might be finally seeing the pole light!!!

All I will say is that I am very surprised that they opted to go this route after the fiasco that was Pole Star.
And, no, I am not voting.
I had that thought as well.

Empy I can see where your coming from with this. I think when it becomes a ‘let the public decide’, it naturally becomes a popularity contest. Ive experienced that when I would run for things like student council in school. If you werent the popular one, then you were out. But then again think about the American Idol or Americas Got Talent, they are both highly rated shows that rely on viewer vote. But from the things ive heard, its not really a mass vote (I read somewhere that on AI, they will restrict calls from those voting where the person is from). I do like the idea that they gave the pole world a voice on who should get into USPDF.
As for voting where you can, I look at it this way ‘if I was her entering, wouldnt I want people to help me as much as they could to get me in’. I always think as much as I help others, it will come back to me one day. If you were the one waiting to be picked, wouldnt you want your friends to help you out in every way they could? As much as I wanted to help RaquelleStar get in by attacking every computer at the dealer to get in a vote, I didnt. Quite honestly, I got slammed with work and really didnt have alot time to tell my coworkers about the USPDF vote.
As for the timing rule, there are alot of submission vids that went passed the mark – not with USPDF but also EMW too. They are only looking at the time frame they ask for, they could care less what you do after 3:00 mark.

what makes it better, it looks like he drew the Xdome and colored the pole as close to the TG!
Super cute Veena
