I see SO many bad poles on craigslist. I am at the point that if you do not research what you are buying then it is your own fault.

I feel the same way Chem!

Still VERY much the beginner …however, a teacher mentioned "bicycling" down the pole….sort of like fan legs. Looks great (can’t wait till I can do it).

yep, thats one of my favs to do. We used to call them angel wings when your sitting up doing it. Its fun when you get a point and hold it and then pop into a split! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

What sort of fees are you looking at for video production though? Im guessing the $300 is just his labor cost?

it depends on what kind of quality you want and the equipment they have. Do you want just one single shot or do you want mulitple cameras to cut between two shots? They also have to work with the audio people as well so the audio quality is good on tape. You would also have to do a run through with the videographer about where its safe to shoot and where isnt. What angles are ok? Post Production too – title credits, producing, editing (my fav thing to do) Also depends on how many copies you plan on selling, dubbing is a pretty simple job but it does get time consuming.

Sorry, the TV https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_geek.gif came out in me! I always think about these things during videos and while watching tv. I cant watch a video/tv show/movie just for enjoyment. Darn that TV Production degree! LOL

As someone who is putting thier own competition together, its hard work! Its alot of time between finding venues, chasing after emails, running the webpage etc. I knew before getting my hands into this, I knew this would take up alot of my time. I asked every resource I had about putting this together. I have tapped out all my resources to get the Battle up and running. Have I ran into things I didnt even think of? OMG yes, I didnt even know aobut event insurance (Empy, I can give you the quotes I have for mine and where I got them from), judges being compensated – which I totally understand, they have business to do as well. This is why I got an assistant to help me out.

As a former NCA All-Star Cheerleader and a pole compeitior, ive seen things I like and dont like.

I want feedback, I dont think I should ask for it at all! In cheer, we got our score sheets back that same day and reviewed them at the next practice. From there we worked on our flaws to be our best at the next compeititon (which sometimes was the next weekend). At Ms Xpose, they didnt give feeback. I didnt ask for, which is a fail for me. I dont think anyone asked for it, we didnt see ranking either. We were only told who won each catagory, one year I missed advancing by one point! The only reason I knew that was b/c Jessaylnn told me and she was the host for the event.

Compeitiors should be respectful to each other. Yes you are all working towards the same prize and only one person is going home with it. In my nature, im a very encouraging person. I wish everyone the best of luck and thats something ive been doing since my NCA days. No politics please. I dont care how long youve been in pole, im gonna cheer you on. I have much respect for each girl, it takes alot of balls to get up there and do what we do.

I do like the compulsory and optional round. But I do think Optional round should be changed unless its really optional. I like that the competitiors have to show a technical routine but then get to do a routine they can do what they wish (within the guidelines of course).

Judges – IMO, they should come from various forms of performance backgrounds – dance, gymnastics etc. As the sport gets bigger and stronger, we will have women with a pole background being able to judge. When I came up with the idea for the battle, I thought about who I wanted to judge. I wanted someone in the pole world, a local celebrity who has experience dealing with live performances and, a dance teacher. I got all 3 and im happy with the choices I got!

Venue – it all depends what kind of vibe you want to give off for your event. I wanted something big and similar to what USPDF hosts in. Those prices are crazy pricey, the Hippodrome here in Baltimore was almost $5000 to rent thier smallest room. I also looked at places where local bands perform, we have a lot of places here that work well. The GM of one place I contacted also is the GM for Mist. I checked Mist out and loved the layout and how we were doing it. They were much lower (this all depends on the bar ring that night, it could cost me $500 or free) than the bigger venues.

As a spectator, I dont care what snafus people ran into behind the scenes. Im there for a great show with great people. I trust whoever is judging, hosting, views submission videos to put on a great event. Yes, you can disagree with who they chose, but thats life. We all dont get along 100% of the time. I also dont want to hear people bad mouthing other compeitiors. The girl who sat next to me at USPDF, was talking trash about Winter. I let it go in one ear and out the other, thats your opinon and I dont know Winter so therefore I cant say what I think about her. Which I did meet her and shes really cool!

Ticket Prices/ Accomdations – thats always going to be a tough place no matter how you look at it. You want it to be reasonable priced but then you want to cover costs that youve already paid. I based alot of my work from the Ms Xpose compeitions. Was USPDF pricey ? IMO yes, but I still went and felt like I got my $65 worth in entertainment. In Mary Kay when we travel we go in groups. We always share beds and rooms, we know those things can get expensive and if you can save a couple of bucks by rooming or trying out a different hotel in a close area – by all means go for it. Which is why I drove to USPDF and back, it was only an hour each way.

I know have more to say, but my brain is shot currently. (shhh im supposed to be working!) When comes to me, ill just add on!

Ive been taking it pretty light since it happened. I havent been working out as much b/c of it (and with my husband working late, its hard to squeeze in a workout). Its been feeling much better in the past week. Im still stretching it many times a day. It hurts the most if I use the mouse at my computer for a long period of time or when I do my daughters hair. The big issue im running into now is im taking antibiotics for my kidney infection (boo!) and reading the meds they gave me, they could cause tendonitis! REALLY! Im recovering and now theres a good chance I could get it back. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

Or a ‘You Tube is not a free strip club’.

I deal with the crap but I give them a big dose of WTFE (wtf ever!) and move on with my life. If you dont like it then dont watch me! I have no time to be spend with negitive energy!

I was so seriously disappointed that I couldnt record anything! I only wanted it for personal use https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

All the ladies did absolutely amazing! Does anyone know anything about Andrea Mickels? Her routine really stuck out in my mind and I’d like to see more of her.

OMG yes! Hello spatchcock!!! I loved both of Allison’s routines, she really tells a story in hers! When I saw Charley’s optional – I was like ‘Hello Hot Stuff!". I loved Roxy’s too, when she elbow mounted I was like ‘oh hells yeah!;. I totally felt for Melanie after her compuslory, and I would of not competed too.

Lots of great talent that night!

Videos and pics weren’t allowed. I am under the assumption video is strictly prohibited because of music licensing.

I have occasionally mentioned to my b/f about wanting to go to a strip club because I had never been to one before until months ago when I visited North Carolina and he never brought me along when him and his friend went nudey bar hopping and they apparently been to all of them in Dundalk and Baltimore (not in one night though), which made me feel crappy https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I have to say the ones in Dundalk/Baltimore arent really that great. I live up that way and ive been to plenty of them. My personal top 2 are Hustler and Fantasies. The other ones, the girls are mega raunchy or its not even worth paying the cover charge.

Ill tell you this. I used to think like that ALOT. If only I was skinnier, I could do these things. But then I see curvy gals doing amazing tricks and it gives me the confidence that one day it will happen.

Ive been using a few things:

For quick moments I use my blackberry. I can get the videos posted quick on SV, FB etc.

For a back up since I couldnt find my camcorder was my digital camera (Kodak Easy Share C813). Small to tote around and quick switch to video. I would also lay my camera on is side to get a longer angle (this can be seen on some of my videos. The downside is that Windows Movie Maker doesnt accept its format and if I convert the file – it looks like its lagging and looks like crap. I would have to get new editing softward just to use it, I wanted free stuff but would always miss the free trial time.

For 95% of my videos I use a JVC GRDA US (I think thats the model). Its the family camcorder but im the only one who uses it the most. I like the quality of the playback and the tapes it uses (hi 8mm), when the video is done right it can look very professional. The 2 things I didnt like were that its got a sliding view screen, im more of a view finder gal (TV nerd taking over) and I had to buy some extra equipment to get it upload to my computer.

[Does your hubby get cranky about the videos too? I took some of my original ones down after having it brought up and thrown in my face every other day – how inappropriate it was for me to post that "$**!" on the internet for everyone to see https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif So now I don’t post anything that has actual dancing – just straight up trick stuff.

Mine thinks I only care about myself when I do the videos. I shoot the videos when my kids are at my MIL’s (my son’s babysitter comes to our house and I have come straight home so she can go to her second job). Its not like im neglecting my kids and leaving them home alone KWIM? He told me that I would much rather go put a video up for random strangers than go pick up my kids from my MIL’s. My thinking is when is the next time I get a break from the kids for more than an hour???? I hardly get a break from them to begin with and when I do get to socialize w/folks who arent my coworkers I get my butt chewed out 2 weeks later.

Hugs to you dear! Sometimes men just like to toss a wrench into our plans just b/c they feel like it.

I know how you feel, my DH hates when I pole outside of class. I wanted to street pole while we were at the lake this summer but he wouldnt even take the picture for me! I keep thinking if I was taking gymnastics instead and showed off my handsprings, flip etc – would it be different?

IMO, I dont think it has to do with you. He can trust you, he just cant trust everyone else that will be there. I can see where hes coming from about the ex being there. But like you said that was 10yrs ago and you let him be him and thats all you can do about it.

If you need to talk, im here. Feel free to shoot me a PM.

I wear mine out from time to time. I typically wear mine w/my halloween costume, last year I was a slutty Wednesday Addams. I wore knee high socks w/the black patent shoes.

I would totally wear them with jeans to avoid the "your a stripper" reaction. But then again Id wear a skirt so I could street pole!

I started hitting the gym in Jan on top of doing pole. Ive been focusing on cardio, abs and arms while im there. Ive been doing lots of push ups (reg and dips) and lots of lower abs. I also do about 12min of cardio and I push myself higher than what the elpitcal wants my heart rate. Its helped with my stamina during a performance. Yeah im tired but not wiped out.

Is there any way you can tell him you are going out to get milk then just come to the comp? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif Oh to pull that off one day!

I havent mustered up the courage to ask him to go yet. Typically he tells me I can go and do things and 2 weeks later yell at me for going to begin with. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif Plus its a sunday which the race and game is on https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif which means he wants drink all afternoon.

Good thing is Redskins play in Philly that weekend so I wont have to worry about game day traffic.

Angel – I may take you up on that ticket. I still havent bought one.
