I’ve got one xpole in the lounge room it does spin or static. And I have two poles in my hubby’s man cave which is a shed turned fitness room set up with competition distance between them, one spin & one static. I work shifts and was keeping everyone awake wanting to pole late at night in the house after coming off night shifts. So instead I work out in the shed. But in summer it regularly gets over 45 degrees Celsius at our house (which is 113f) so I workout with the air conditioner on. Each has their purpose.

I luv spin mode but unless it is ridiculously slow all I feel like doing is spewing! This weekend we did our first performance at the studio Xmas party. I was really worried about our routine as there were heaps of spins. One of the girls told me to get ginger tablets. The box said to take two and I took four. I was so nervous when we started that I kicked off too hard and went madly spinning upside down…great news was I felt ok and was able to keep going! Ginger tablets are awesome!!!

I take lessons at a great studio, have been to several workshops & have quite a few excellent pole dvds but I still need Veena 🙂

Sometimes I struggle to remember a move or get into it properly. Veena has so much info in her lessons that I regularly look at them to check that my technique is correct & safe! And she generally has multiple ways of entering or learning each move, as well as strengthening exercises to work on, so that you know you are physically capable of performing it safely before putting your neck on the line

In combination with all the feedback & discussion on this site I find StudioVeena is brilliant and would highly recommend the lessons to anyone who wants to learn Pole Dancing in a safe and sustainable way. And the bonus is….you look a whole lot sexier when you perform the moves confidently and with correct technique 🙂

I’ve got the slinky top and I’m small busted. I like them but I’ve got to say I don’t wear it as much as the others cuz I think you need a bit more boob to fill them up and make them look good! So I don’t think you’d have a problem 🙂

How good is that!?! 🙂 I’m so tempted to buy 4 more fly tops cuz they are so comfy & the prices are really good at the moment.

Hey LeyRose, I don’t know if you have seen any of ScarlettHoney’s videos – she is such an awesome dancer and I know she trained at Bobbi’s in Surry Hills for a long time. I would love to be half that sexy with my dancing 😉 Bobbi’s is definitely very sexy…all of her girls have a very similar, signature style. I went to Pole Candy this year and you could tell who trained there. One of my all time favourites -Dirdy Birdy- also trained there for a while and she is amazing.

It depends what you want though….one of the girls I train with now used to be at Bobbi’s but she didn’t like it cuz a lot of the girls go there specifically to learn how to strip and work the pole and they don’t seem to have as much fun as us (at least thats the feedback I heard) which is not what Kelli wanted so she left and came out to our studio.

I also went to the Australian Pole Festival in Qld this October and met some great people & amazing instructors! It depends what style of dance you want to do but Suzie Q at Parramatta is great – a lot of her students compete and dance various styles and always do extremely well. I was really impressed with the Suzie Q instructors and am thinking about picking up some floorwork / freestyle dance classes with them.

There are so many top quality studios in Sydney now. It just depends what you want to do and how far you want to travel. Shimmy has a studio near Redfern, Jamilla has one at Camperdown, SuzieQ is at Parramatta and Blush (as seen on Packed to the Rafters) is in Newtown & St. Peter’s. Then there all the ones out in the suburbs, however, you do have to be careful with them because the quality of instruction differs greatly.

Just depends what area you want to travel to. I am actually thinking about going up the Central Coast for some lessons with Daisy (she’s gorgeous and in Cleo’s video) and I want to go on a holiday to Canberra & Qld again to catch up with some of the instructors I met at the Pole Festival because they were excellent teachers that really focused on safety & correct technique as well as creativity, rhythm & performance charisma.

God I could go on and on forever:) I’m definitely up for a pole jam at some point & I have a couple of poles at home (in the Hawkesbury area) if you wanted to visit – so there’s no need to take turns!! I’m still pretty new to pole and definitely do strength moves better than sexy, improvised dance but I am totally hooked! And the awesome girls on SV are giving me plenty of inspiration and motivation to keep getting better.

VillainVixen – I am pretty small all over but unfortunately have the muffin top thing happening in a big way :(. I find that if I roll the top of the shorts over all you can see is my tummy (yuk!) but if I leave the top of the shorts up it helps hold it in and doesn’t look too bad. It also doesn’t get in the way if I’m doing inverted moves or leg switches etc – I still have enough skin exposed on the side of my tummy to grip the pole.

LeyRose – you can either let the ties hang down or tie them up in a bow or knot. You can also use the ties to make the shorts more scrunched up or not, depending on the look & amount of coverage you want. I’ve never found them to get in the way but if you let them hang loose you do have to get used to the feel of them on your thighs. All the girls at our studio have these or very similar style shorts with the side ties – they look cool, add a bit of variety & no one has ever had a problem with moves because of the ties.

    Hope this helps ladies 🙂

Luv Dirdy Birdy – her gear is very comfy and flattering.

Personally I am not a fan of any halter style tops that put pressure behind your neck but the “fly” & “meow” tops are brilliant. I also run in mine cuz they don’t rub me and they support my small bust well whilst looking very sporty. But i’m not too sure how you would go in the “meow” top for running (or inverting) if you were large chested.

The shorts, bikinis and slinky style pants are also great – just depends on the look and amount of coverage you want. The shorts are awesome, fold over at the top and there are heaps of colours / styles to mix n match with your tops. If you want to show off your butt then definitely get the mini shorts, they show off butt cheeks much better!

The only thing I don’t like is the fact that the padding inserts in the tops come out when I wash them so I have to keep reinserting or arranging them after a wash & I also wash them in underwear bags or else you (sorry I should say hubby) may lose the inserts!

The white ” fly” top can also go a bit see through if you’re really sweaty too.

I get great comments on my DB wear and they are great for both poling and general sports activities….DB has excellent customer service AND there is a sale on right now!!! Can’t beat that 🙂 …. Can you tell I’m a fan of DB?!

I do have some other pole clothes but I just don’t find them as comfy or attractive to wear.

August 27, 2013 at 6:42 am in reply to: Getting over the ‘fear’

I am terribly scared of heights too and every time I go upside down I feel sick. My instructor was (and still is) great though. She would be my spotter when I was scared and always made sure I felt safe and secure while still pushing my limits a little bit at a time – starting with loosening my grip, then one hand off the pole, then the other hand etc. Because she was so supportive I am now progressing really well and enjoying myself.

I still get nervous however, which is good because it makes me concentrate and be careful, but I’m much more willing to try new things than I was a couple of months ago because of the safe, systematic way in which my teacher takes me through tricks.

Studio Veena also helped me enormously – via both the lessons and community interaction – as you can bounce ideas off people, gain inspiration from everyone, get excited for each other and support each other.

My husband has also noticed a huge change in my confidence since I started poling in April. As long as you go at your own pace and have the proper support you will achieve amazing things. It might seem insurmountable now, but believe me – slowly the fear becomes smaller and smaller as you fight it with more knowledge and greater skills, eventually it will loosen it’s stranglehold over you, becoming a vague memory or possibly even disappearing totally.

Good luck with your pole journey – I know my fear is being conquered every time I get on my pole. Will it disappear entirely? I’m not sure, but I’m having so much fun and making so many new friends with my new “love” that I don’t mind going a bit slower than some others if it means I keep spinning and inverting on my pole 🙂

I’m doing Kung Fu. Love the sparring and weapons work, and am really learning to get into the “zone” with my freestyle forms.

My hubby counts my bruises and tries to work out which ones are from pole and which ones are from Kung Fu. He used to say I was Kung Fu tough but now I’m pole tough too …. lol

My name – KungFuPuddyTat – actually comes from my big, black kitty kat that always insists on training with me 🙂 … the other two cats watch from a distance but Ed literally runs over and twines himself around my legs as soon as I start my Kung Fu training – very cute but pretty dangerous when I’m sparring or using the sword or staff.

I have this crazy goal is to do a pole routine at our end of year Xmas party that has a “Ninja Poler” feel. KrissyKiKi has an awesome picture that she created which totally inspired me to go for it. And then I saw Becca Butcher’s routine with a katana on YouTube. That was it – I’ve got to be a kick arse Ninja Poler now 😀

I started running again to help with my pole fitness. I noticed my upper body was getting a great workout on the pole but my legs looked terrible! Didn’t do the Couch to 5km app program but I think I’ve pretty much followed that system by the descriptions everyone has included. I started out slow with just a couple of minutes jogging and lots of walking (cuz I felt like I was dying) and have built it up over the last three months so that I am now comfortably running 6km in 30min. Went to pole class tonight and one of the girls commented on how toned my butt was in my new cheeky shorts – boy was I pleased 🙂

Someone mentioned a “cup” to me last month and I shuddered in horror. I just thought it sounded gross! Anyway a week later I was looking through SV with my new membership (yay love SV!) and saw this thread. After reading all your comments I decided to give the cup a go….I am now a total convert. No leaks, no odour and no mess. Thank you so much ladies! This small item is really making a significant change in my life.
