Also, barefoot sanctuary yoga studio has an excellent handstands class taught by a former cirque performer. It isn't really pole but is GREAT conditioning and a fun skill and only $15 for a 1.5 hour class. Totally worth it!

I just went recently. I really liked the classes offered at Shine. Well priced and excellent instructors.

Pole is so much a part of my life that if a employer were to turn me down for it, I wouldn't want to work at them anyway. I can't work somewhere where I can't be open about my life. Depends on what field you're in though. I know people who are teachers or work in govt or with the military that can get in trouble for it.

I agree with Olivia. Enjoy your time together, learn what you can from each other, talk to each other about teaching techniques… It can only improve both of your business. I try to learn as much as I can to be the best teacher to my students and I should hope she feels the same way. If she has some excellent way to teach a move, doesn't it benefit everyone to learn it?
I work at 2 competing studios simultaneously. It's a fine line a lot of times so I understand… but in my opinion, growth in a positive direction helps all people involved in the pole industry in the long run. The studios almost certainly have different atmospheres/things to offer, so sharing trick and teaching advice won't be the clients only factor in deciding which studio to go to.

Ebony 1020 is the one I told you about, Emily. Pam- Emily is a CED student who just moved…

Damn. Sorry for the triple post!

She's my main pole partner in Cleveland… I can't imagine poling without her… And she's moving. 🙁 So I understand the stalkerish nature.

If you can, find a studio near you to take a few lessons. I think the reason I kept with it so long was the community! Also, if you're frustrated with strength, freestyle and practice flow… I think someone already mentioned that. It doesn't take any strength to turn on your favorite song and dance like no one's watching. You don't need to be doing tricks to make a dance fun.

Michelle Mynx's students (all her classes are co-ed) jokingly refer to the 'squeaky toy test'. If a woman were to put a squeaker in her crotch then do the move, would it squeak? If so, then there needs to be some adjustment for a male to do it…But usually it just involves careful positioning.
So just find a willing female pole buddy to put a squeaky toy in her bottoms… That's a totally normal thing to ask, right?
Also good supportive underwear helps. My boyfriend poles on occasion and swears by andrew christian boxer briefs. Keeps everything tucked up nicely and easy to move out of the way.

We have an instructor at our studio who dislocated her kneecap. She had to take time off of anything involving knees, but got right back to arm moves and simple spins. I don't know if she's on SV, but if you want her pole regimen for when she was resting her knee, I can put you in contact.

I'm down. How?

There are quite a few people qualified to teach who might be looking for more class time… Are you part of the Mynx fb group? I'll PM you. I know a TON of good instructors in St. Louis.

@JelliCrew- I believe a fair number of polers have actually pooped glitter at one point or another! With the amount of glitter that goes into some routines/costumes… It gets everywhere. I do know someone who has admitted to it… 😛

Shimmy, Dirdy Birdy, … all the famous Aussies really and Aerial Amy… I can't believe there aren't more people in love with the Aussies in here. They're amazing. Their competitions are completely unique compared to the rest of the world! They have amazing tricks, gorgeous detailed costumes, and are really into the 'wow factor'… They tell stories with their dance. And seriously, Firework shoes?!

Tendonitis on it's own wouldn't be likely to cause numbness. The hand is innervated by 3 nerves. The pinkie and ring finger are innervated by a different nerve (the ulnar nerve) than the other fingers. It is possible that there is something irritating your ulnar nerve anywhere along its course from the spine all the way to the hand but quite often at the elbow which can be related to tendonitis. If you are feeling numbness/paralysis, it's a sign you should see a doctor and have it examined.

Lots of stretching and mobility practice. First- make sure your muscles are very warmed up before you start stretching for flexibility training. Look into foam rolling. It will aid in loosening and prepare you for a deeper stretch.
If you subscribe to Veena's lessons- she has a lot of exercises and a long video on improving back mobility which incluldes a decent amount of foam rolling. https://www.studioveena.com/lessons/view/4f5fbd45-6c18-4371-84a6-3f4a0ac37250 If not, you can find decent video demos on youtube. Cat/Cow, camel, cobra/half cobra, and bridge are my favorites. King pigeon is also good but very hard if you're very tight. If you can use yoga straps while practicing you can work your way to it slowly and safely.
Also, make sure you're doing strength conditioning at the same time. The back is very susceptible to injury if you increase flexibility rapidly without corresponding strength training. Again, Veena has some good videos on it in her conditioning section. I feel like I get the most out of supermans.
