Hahaha poking! Damn you predictive text!

I’ve been poking for 9 months now, just like you once a week, no home pole ( I would kill for one!) and I think ups and downs are part of it. Some weeks you nail something, another week you struggle with it. It took about 6 months before I felt I could invert comfortably. do not push yourself or get down on it, we all have different speeds of learning and different moves our bodies like better. Sometimes moves hurt, sometimes they don’t, that’s just how it is. Some lessons you feel like you do loads, other lessons feel like you just stand around or sit on the floor lol! Just keep at it though, enjoy it, and in 6 months time you will look back and see how far you have come and feel proud xxx

I would love the lessons and think they are fabulous value, but I won’t sign up because I wouldn’t use them as i think they should be used as I don’t have a pole at home. I didn’t get chance to take advantage of the 3 day trial with work and young kids it was too short a time for me to use it. So if I had a pole at home to use the lessons properly and maybe a longer trial period my life would be happier lol!

MemberAugust 9, 2014 at 3:32 am in reply to: Yet another rotator cuff/tendonitis/overtraining threadI have been reading about this too as I get pain on and off in my shoulder, what I now know as rotator cuff. When it’s bad I feel like I can’t lift my arm up over my head but only in certain positions like to take a t shirt off for example. Other times it’s ok. It seems that the heat and ice thing is most common treatment and of course rest. Although I have seen that to rest it too much can possibly bring on frozen shoulder which is why they advise to take ibuprofen to relieve inflammation and enable you to exercise it somewhat. As a nurse I wouldn’t advise taking any more than 400mg three times a day, never on an empty stomach and ideally 8 hours between doses xx mine is not pole related as I’ve had it on and off before I started. I only pole once a week at a class, so I take care not to overuse it in between and it is gradually getting better on its own. Good luck xx

I’m nearish to wolverhampton 🙂

Congrats on the cramp issue! And on feeling great with your inverts. After learning the basic invert we started with variations like one leg, basic Scorpio and Gemini (hands on versions), and got used to having back leg off or front leg off, eventually taking two legs off (think I have a pic of me trying thus on my page). Also there is inverted crucifix where you take hands out. Oh where are you from anyways? Sorry being nosey xx

I agree definitely with hips high, it’s something I’ve had to really make sure I do especially when you come to getting your leg over for a knee hold. Also make sure you don’t start your invert with hands too high, before you invert maybe bring your hands a bit lower, then they will naturally be lower when your upside down. And before you really squeeze for your crucifix change the position of your hands so it feels comfortable. It’s just practice though to get what feels right. Duno if that makes sense lol and I’m only a beginner myself, it’s just my experience x good luck x

I get cramp too when I invert, or when I try extra hard to point my toes. I know you said you weren’t dehydrated but I do find it’s worse when I’m dry or I’m tired. I have had it in my side too but I can’t always decide why I get it and sometimes I don’t get it at all x

I agree with tropical pole, trying climbs and sits. Hello boys is fun, sometimes I got it sometimes I just slide. I have been trying things like skater, stargazer and dart, advanced crucifix, bulb, names might be different, but it mixes it up to try this stuff. Also head stands with variations of legs, general pirouettes or dancing (I can talk cos I don’t get chance to do this lol), fan kicks I love too, looks good with nice strong legs. Flight ear is right too about the spins, that’s all we did when I first went to class and now our ward up is pretty much ten different spins in a row. Hope you have got some ideas from this thread, I know I have! Xx

Thanks so much for tips, ideas, reading info, it’s making me hungry reading it all! I’ve signed up to my fitness pal and taken a before pic of my gut lol. I am determined to get rid of my baby weight, it’s just gota go! I am determined to put goodness in my body and also my little ones, plus I do think it might make it a bit easier to haul my ass up that pole!

It’s not a video or anything, but very chuffed I did inverted crucifix all by myself tonight and held it comfortably while my teacher counted slowly to ten! Yay feel like a big girl now lol x

Hi guys! I asked a while ago about clean eating, and you told me about those websites, tropical pole. I really want to get more into clean eating but find it difficult being vegetarian, and have absolutely no will power for those moments when I’m starving! I really feel ready to make the switch for good but I’m the type of person who needs to be told what to eat as I find it difficult to be creative with food, especially when I’m hungry! I’m kind of not sure where to start, I just know I’m over carrying this extra weight and need to rejuvenate!

MemberJune 4, 2014 at 3:07 pm in reply to: What is safe to do on the pole with Diastasis Recti?I had this too with both my children during pregnancy. Both babies were big and I had three finger gap. Like you I researched and read all about it and then took my time about exercising and now two years later, thankfully it is back to normal. Good luck, you’ll know what feels right for you x

I think you need to start in like a press up type position. I tried once but as soon as I tried to put on hand behind to grab the pole, you get the full pole burn on thighs and I bailed it! Lol
-
I think about pushing my legs down straight once they are in position around the pole and just try taking one hand off first. Try each hand off at a time then eventually two together if even for a second. You will be able to try longer once you are confident holding on with your thighs x

I started from scratch in jan this year. Fell in love the first time I tried it. Have my ups and downs, sometimes achieve a lot sometimes feels like nothing. Thought I may lose weight, I have gained although I am firmer and my biceps are now twice the size lol! However I go I am just proud of my 34 year old ass for even giving it a go and the feeling you get when your body responds and does what you want it to is incredible. I have learned ( mostly from lurking on here lol) that it is important not to compare yourself to others, we are all at different stages, but no matter what your stage everyone one here will support and guide you x

Goddess k! Those granola bars look seriously tasty!

Hi fellow fussy vegetarian lol. Thanks for your message, I didn’t know you had a blog- shall be reading that too! I’ve watched loads of your vids recently you are so strong and am jealous of your inverted April pics (jealous in a nice way!) I am struggling with learning inverts, feel like my arse is too heavy lol, got it a few times though just trying not to through myself at it! Take it easy x
-
Thanks so much, I have lots of reading and planning to do me thinks. The more I read about crap in food the more gross I feel about eating it. I want to be strong so I can pole! Yay! Lol x
-
Thank you, I shall be having a mooch x
-
Thanks for your reply. I do still eat eggs and milk yes. I need ideas for meals I don’t think I’ve ever had a burrito lol and am bit of fussy eater which doesn’t help. I couldn’t bring myself to eat kidney beans or mushrooms for example cos they feel funny! Lol. I just feel really ready now to fuel my body well and of course my little ones x

I have been poling since jan too, we haven’t even started looking at one handed spins. I think you need to build strength and flexibility with lots of other things before I could imagine feeling ready to do spins one handed. For the moment I am happy trying to do them faster, stronger and just better with 2 hands before I try letting to with one hand.
