having studied dance for most of my life, i was always taught to keep ballet in the mix of classes i took.  it's the foundation of pretty much all the other dance forms, so IMO, take it !! at the very least you'll do no harm to yourself or your poling skills 🙂

best pole website, period !  i recommend our students and instructors buy the lessons, as Veena's a terrific resource.  Even if you already 'know' a move, you can still go back and look at it broken down, you can search the threads and forums for all sorts of info.  and yeah, the kindness just rolls offa this site ! xxoo

my studio regularly brings in recognized pole folks for workshops, and every time we do, we make a point of inviting the other studios to participate.    do you know that NOT ONE of them, even though the invitation asks for an RSVP,  has ever even replied with a 'no thanks'.   *sigh*

This thread comes at a very interesting time for me, and I am happy to read that there is some cooperation 'out there'.    There are only a few studios in my state, and we are all fairly spread out, except for  one which is about 18 miles from mine.  If I get a call from someone who is closer to the others, I feel it is less than professional if I don't at least mention that the other studio is closer to the caller.    Let the customer decide where they think they will have the best experience.  I'm pretty sure nobody else out here does this…..  ah well.  Maybe one day !

my suggestion to you , before you make a final decision on pulling out, would be to search the Polesque competition on You Tube for the 2011 winner, Roz Mays.  She is a bigger girl.  Take a look…    🙂  It really isn't about your size, it is about your passion.

ChemGodess — we use the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on our brass poles often, with no harm.

my studio has brass — we use regular old brass polish (forget brand, but found it in home depot).  it works well cleaning and shining, and does not leave the poles slick   be prepared for a whole lot of black stuff to come off as you wipe off the polish – it is messy.  i actually wear rubber gloves when we polish  🙂

you can also try amb designs :  http://www.ambdancewear.com/Versashorts_p_47.html

i haven't purchased yet, but we have a student who has em, and they are really cute, and they stay put on her butt.

if you search the short itself, you can find it for even less than the price on the amb site.  good hunting !!

glitter — have you tried the vinegar trick ?  i learned over the weekend during our X-Pert certification that just plain old white vinegar closes up the sweat glands in the mitts…. you will surely smell like a salad, but might be worth a try ?

  • oh, and other polers of the same caliber as those I mentioned — there are certainly many more I failed to mention, but I was sort of using those guys as an example….  there's also alethea, karol, amber, leighann….. the list goes on !!

  • while it is quite an accomplishment for them to have made the show in the first place, i felt their routine didn't do the huge wealth of pole talent in the pole community the right justice 🙁  i am also worried that this was the producers' nod to pole, and that it won't get another shot…  while V may be right about ABDC being an odd forum for pole, I still think there could be a crew that goes out there and bowls America over.  Think about it :  a crew made up of Marlo, Kyra, Michelle. Zoraya, David, Jungle Cat…. I believe they would be ridiculously phenomenal….

our studio is actually hosting the X-Pert cert this weekend, but I believe you can also get it at the Crunch gyms out on the west coast.

Sues — is your pole warmed up when you try using it ?  what's it made of ?  sometimes the warmer the pole (chrome, stainless), the better the grip….
