MemberAugust 15, 2014 at 11:19 pm in reply to: Is there any hope for a 46 yr old newbie?A WAY over 50 here, started at almost 50 yrs old. As for how long will it take, everyone is different, and every spin/trick/transition is different. The key is don’t compare yourself to others (which I have to watch myself!) and have fun. It can be hard work, but worth it. Let us know how it goes!!!

I have been somewhat following this topic. I have seen some posts about concern or frustration at not being able to progress quickly or not do the challenge daily. Please don’t get frustrated or compare. It should be a journey to improve or progress in a way that works for you. I am doing the challenge, however, have not done a plank day for over a week. We were on vacation and even though we didn’t go anywhere, I just didn’t get to it. Plus I have my pole schedule and have started a yoga program that has kicked my butt. Some days I am just tooooo sore to do a 3 minute plank! Other days I just plain forget.
I will continue and work up at my pace and life schedule (which includes forgetting lol). This 30 day Plank Challenge may take me months, and that’s okay.
I hope this helps.

Oh and what Allyson said, I still had death grip when I got my TG, so had to get confortable and learn to soften hand grip.
-
Preppy, I went through same thing when I bought my TG years ago. I got all bruised and scraped. But I love it. I had to learn how to adjust and get passed the pain of a good stick. I would rather deal with good stick than slippery. It will get better. By the way, I also get tore up when practicing hard at the studio with xpole chrome. With all the poles I have used at various studios, and I am on my 4th one at home, I find there are pros and cons with each one. Enjoy it and your pole journey 🙂

I redid my start test for plank yesterday and did 120 sec and did Day 1 today which was same. This is going to be INTERESTING!!!
I did a monthly push up challenge while back through the boot camp I used to go to. Our trainer had a different system for building up. By the end I was able to do 40, had to test in front of trainer for him to confirm proper form and going as low as required, ugh! I’m lucky if I can do 10 now lol
He also did a weekend wall sit challenge. My husband laughed at me so much because just after few seconds I was in soooooooo much pain he had to pry me off the wall!!! I couldn’t even use my legs do it myself. I tried two times thinking I can do this, oh heck no, I couldn’t. geez
Does this 30 Day Challenge have triceps dip????
-
Did my Start Test at 92 seconds. I have done a weekend plank challenge in the past through the boot camp I was going to while back and did pretty well. I was able to hold longer in this Start Test, but got scared as to what’s in store for the 30 days so I chickened out and stopped at 1 min 30 sec. I know, I’m a whimp. Do I do Day 1 tomorrow or same as Start Test day?
I’ve always wanted to do this kind of plank challenge but not motivated by myself. Thank you for starting this thread Kate 92! hmmm, now I’m wondering about doing Start Test again tomorrow,

MemberJuly 5, 2014 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Fair price for lightly used 50mm TG Xpole Xpert ???I have sold couple xpole xpert poles for $270. Each time I knew the person buying, and also know that mine were in excellent condition, each time they were sold close enough to not pay shipping, so makes it a better price.

I have a callous on my right hand under the “nasty” finger lol It’s a hard spot all the time now. When I practice hard it hurts and builds up again. But it gets better. When it’s real hard and dry I am able to peel the top layer, eeeew! Carefully though because it can hurt. Yup a part of poling, just like all the bruises on my legs that my husband counted this morning. Some I didn’t even know I had on the sides and backs of my legs 🙂

Welcome back, Yanille! Be patient, it will come back. Have fun.
@tigger, this is your kick in the butt!

I think that’s what I do, go into cross ankle first, then position hands behind me and lower myself. I just posted a video of it and have another one where I do it at the studio. The studio one I do an Advanced Plank first, then go into CAR.

Thank you. Yes, I struggle with getting more vertical to the pole. In fact earlier in class tonight I asked someone to see why I’m not, either I’m scared to relax and let my body get more vertical or lack of flexibility. I was able to relax and let body lower some, but not a lot more. We were also trying to figure out what could prevent me sliding my tail bone over hands and hurting so much. I accidentally placed hands differently and didn’t hurt. A friend was watching me and noticed I placed my hands closer to my butt, thus tailbone was already over them when I began to slide down. So I think that is what you are talking about. I will practice again tomorrow and work on your tips. THANK YOU!

MemberJune 12, 2014 at 12:45 am in reply to: What moves do you struggle with that you should be able to do easily?Elbow grip ayeshsa! Have gotten into once or twice over the years, but no go on consistent basis. Can’t get the balance or lean out enough for that angle. I am okay that I don’t have it, just feel that with other things I do, it should be doable

Others have given you great tips. I just want to add from my experience the pain does get better and go away once you get it. I was in HORRIBLE HORRIBLE pain when learning it, I mean HORRIBLE lol I would work on it, then take a break for a while, then start again, etc. My husband laughs when I get into it different ways now and has said “you do it like nothing now compared to long time ago” So hang in there. And as mentioned, once this is accomplished and no more pain, the next move comes along and pain issue can start all over for THAT trick. A cylce, that in my opinion, is worth it. Hang in there and enjoy the journey 🙂

Yup, Friday chat is a great way to meet up with veneers. I’m still trying to get in the habit of popping in, sometimes by the time I do, it’s quiet. The video chat is awesome on sv also.
This is a great place and pole community! -
BTW, sorry about your family problems.
-
Is it still available? Xpert, that is static/spin, right?
-
YAY, she is soo excited. Glad it worked out for both of you.
-
I’m assuming you live in Redwood City, CA? May I ask which studio you have found? I’m familiar with couple studios in bay area and wondering if it’s one of them.

WebJunk, THANK YOU!!!! I tried and tried before and never thought of dragging it to the timeline. I thought it should be added on another line like transitions and effects are. I did a little test and seemed to work. I always used the Text feature to add credits/message at the end. Now I love AVS4you even more 🙂

This is definitely my problem. I just told my husband today I’m sure my hip flexor problem is due to my sitting allllll day at work. I’d love to see the exercise tips also. 🙂

Sorry, I didn’t have title page on video, it’s on one I haven’t posted yet of my beautiful instructor, will post soon.
-
I also use windows movie maker, works great for my needs. I also bought AVS4you video editor. When that is purchased, you can also download video converter to change formats if needed. Also audio editor which I like because sometimes I like to make a song longer or edit a section of the song. There is trial version of avs4you that will have the software name logo on it.
my last two vids were with avsr. Avs doesn’t have feature to add title page thst I can find, so used movie maker to add one on the last video posted.

MemberApril 18, 2014 at 1:29 am in reply to: Are you over 40 and up a pole? Check in here 🙂Currently 58 yrs old, started at age 50, so it’s been 8 yrs now. I could be farther along, however, did not have a studio to go to for quite a long time. So did the you tube thing, veena’s lessons which really helped me progress, and various workshops here and there. I also tend to pole on the fear side, especially without a spotter, but it’s okay, I have accomplished a lot and love the strength and stamina I get from pole, as well as the toned muscles!
I have a studio to go to now since October 2013 and love the consistency, excellent instructor and gals to have fun and encourage each other.
