You have a a wonderful community here! I started “late in life” and couldn’t do a pole hold to save my life. Be patient and don’t compare to what others are doing, how long it took them to learn, etc. We are different and should take this journey as our own. It’s a lot of fun, and each accomplishment sets up for the next. And, as others said, THIS is the place to begin. I had been poling a little bit having learned some things at a studio but then it closed. I tried learning on my own. Then I found studioveena. com and went back to basics because I was doing a lot of things incorrectly. Her progression for teaching is awesome! Welcome!!!

I remember my first performance on stage at a theater in 2014. I had done few at local studio which were nerve-wracking enough, but the one at NCPP in San Jose was a huge deal for me. Couple days before I almost backed out. I was a nervous wreck and my husband was even concerned and wondered why I was putting myself through that. All this to say that I didn’t back out and did the performance. Two girls from my studio were backstage waiting their turn and when I walked back after mine, I told them “THAT was so much fun!!!” They were shocked that I said that. Since then I have performed the same showcase in 2015 & 2016. And perform at local studio showcase also. I still get nervous, as others do, but the support and encouragement of everyone is amazing and the accomplishment is worthwhile.
At the NCPP San Jose showcase I didn’t warm up the first two years. This time I did warm up backstage with the two poles available. It made a difference for me. It also helped me focus more on performance, other than nerves.
All I can say is it will be over before you know it. I don’t know how long you have been poling, but I had been poling long time before I stepped out of comfort zone and wish I had sooner. The sense of accomplishment is amazing. Have fun!!!

Oooooops! Husband checked and the three screws at the adjuster on the bottom were loose, can’t believe I missed that after all the poles I gave taken down and put up! Love my permanent mount.
-
I finally bought the permanent ceiling mount and love it. However, when on static, the whole pole tends to turn slightly, as if the spin screws are not completing tightened. But as far as I can tell, they are. Is this common? Kinda bugs me as I feel it shouldn’t move at all like when it was on the dome. Thanks!

Took a while to feel stronger and begin accomplishing things, slowly but surely. Have patience and know that no matter what you are doing, even if it seems slow, is building strength. Do a Happy Dance for each thing, even if it doesn’t seem big, IT IS! Have fun with it and realize working out is better than nothing. Having lessons is great and will give you a plan of action.

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!!

Thanks. The Quick Lesson category is the only one that doesn’t change to last video viewed for me. The Adv and Nailed It did this evening.

I saw the announcement on FB. I posted a question on here https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/57aeba09-f028-4eb8-9adc-0014ac110005#bottom. Thanks!!

Even though I know it’s important to check the xjoints, I bought the permanent mount and love it. I had a maintenance guy put the mount up for me because I trust him (and hubby doesn’t do stuff like that). I feel very comfortable not having to worry about the dome slipping. Plus it’s easier to take down and put up when I need to, which isn’t often (thanks goodness).

Oh yeah, I remember now the Flow Program option was a hit. I hope you will feel back to “Veena Normal” soon.

Did I see somewhere that a Nailed It Program for Aerial Shoulder Mounts was in the works? I looked but doesn’t look like it’s out yet. Or did I dream this? lol

Here is video of the new NX Xpole. Hopefully these are the screws you are talking about. My friend didn’t line up the key hole slot with vertical line on the pole. Once she did, was able to screw them flush and did not stick out. Start watching the video at about 14:50 or so. I hope this helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSm_fRPS_tk

The should mot be sticking out. When a friend I’d mine put her new one up I saw they were sticking out. The pole needs to be lined up to that slit type opening, then the screw can be tightened flush with the pole. If you can’t tighten flush, pole is not aligned properly. Hope this makes sense. Look up how to set up pole or I can post link here later.

Welcome! I am 60, started pole at 50. So glad you found this site and community on SV. It is the best. I have always done some sort of fitness workout, but pole is the one I’ve stayed with the longest. Even though I probably won’t do what the youngin’s are doing, the new fancy acrobatic stuff, I am VERY happy with what I have accomplished. I also could not hold my feet off of the floor in a pole hold even though I was involved in an intense weight class at the time. This site and Veena’s lessons have been a life saver and I’ve learned so much. Hope you will be sharing your pole journey here. I am thoroughly enjoying my season of life at 60 because of my wonderful husband and pole. 🙂

It’s awesome to have an instructor to enjoy taking classes from!

MemberFebruary 7, 2016 at 7:56 am in reply to: Is my instructor giving a good push or too much of a push?I agree, if you are not ready, please say so. I have no problem saying “nope” or ‘that’s not on my list of to-do” Some could say, as well as myself, that it is a fear thing or lack of confidence, but whatever it is, I have no problem saying not for me right now. Your pole journey is yours so go at your pace. Sometimes I will do the baby steps or beginning prep for something, then say “no” or even say “no” right away.
There are many cool things that can be learned/practiced before Ayesha, Iron X, etc. Unless, as someone else mentioned, there are those who have natural strength, other workout background, etc who can pull these Adv/Elite moves off. But the basic person, like me, needs time, practice, progression, etc.
Good luck!

I am not a pole-dancer/performer, but participated in NCPP 2014 and 2015. It was really stepping out of my comfort zone and glad I have. Oh, along with other veneers, I am in this highlight video, around 2:01 🙂
It was also awesome having Veena as a feedback judge, but she won’t tell me which feedback form is hers! LOL

When is the showcase?

MemberNovember 22, 2015 at 3:44 am in reply to: Let’s start a discussion about best hot pants for pole dancing. Any tips? 🙂I had a pair of Versa from AMB, they were the chocolate swirl and liked that. However, 0-12 did not allow for me who acctually wears 0 or 00. They looked like too big on me and not cute. A friend had some at the studio few months and I tried them on to practice, still not “small” enough for me. I gave the pair I had to a friend. I would love to try Dragonfly shorts, but having to return when they don’t fit is a pain, where ever I buy from online. The best fitting and ones I love are Pole Skivvie shorts, but no longer available. I’m wearing out the ones I have. KMK’s are awesome, but also run big for me. She was gracious and made me a custom pair of gold and I love them. Also bought the shimmery black ones and had them altered to fit me better. Might buy some more and have them altered, loved KMK’s.

Any tips? 🙂I’ve checked out Dragonfly and definitely don’t want hot pants, they show butt cheeks, right? I also considered side tie but not sure about good fit at the thighs. I need them fitted and not loose. It’s hard for me without trying on. I hear they are nice shorts, though.

Congrats, Gena!!! Loved your Oct Challenge!!! The KMK shorts are awesome, and of course Veena’s lessons are spooktacular! lol
