@tarah, I added you to my circle from treepoles profile, have you gotten my add request yet.

Maybe we should try it out, don't know what time it is where you are?  I'm in my pole room right now 🙂

This has spurred me to stretch more.  I have no idea about the different splits mentioned here so don't know if I'm stretching correctly.  I wish I could say I was in my 40's working on this! 🙂  I am no where near and won't be by Christmas, but I am farther than when I started poling.  Instead of 3 inches from the floor, I split 3 inches lower from standing, haha

How quickly do rooms get booked and sold out.  Wondering if I should make room reservation now also!!!  Can't believe this is in my backyard, even a 5-6 hr drive is close enough for me 🙂

I did the same thing, the puzzle mats on my carpet.  We replaced carpet months ago and I regret not having laminate laid in the middle of the floor where pole is 🙁   I think as time goes on, there will be obvious outline with sun from the window, but oh well!!

I think you already hit the nail on the head about some days rock and other days, egh!  We have all come to realize patience is the key, not comparing to others, etc.  I have always been active in some sort of fitness, but when I started pole (@52 yrs old!) it was the most difficult thing I've ever done.  I couldn't do a simple pole hold, or anything!!!  I had to start all over with fitness, strength building, etc.

Along the way I had to learn to have fun (even though it doesn't look like it in my practices) and appreciate what I have accomplished.

Welcome to the pole journey AND to studioveena!!!

Oh, my husband usually goes with me to competitions (as spectator LOL), special events, etc; however, this is going to be a "me" time.

Let's talk!!!  I am also planning on going, starting a convention $$ stash, etc.  I have a friend, who is also a veneer, who is planning on going with me, sharing room, etc.  I'll email you 🙂

I must also add…the studio I attend most often where we know each other, if someone is on the 45mm, they'll ask me if I would like to use it.  That is sooo gracious.  I usually respond that it's okay.  For me it's good to practice on a 50mm also because 45's are not always available when going to different studios for classes/workshops, etc.  But I love my Twirly Girls co-polers/friends 🙂

I've also attended a couple of studio that have both, at least two 45mm.  Even though it's not always available, at least it's an option sometimes and for certain tricks for practice.  After practicing on a 45mm for quite a few months at home I wondered about working on a 50mm again, did it today and it was not a problem at all.  Yay!  🙂

Veena's online lessons are the best.  I had been inverting when my local studio closed and thought I was doing well.  However, when I found sv discovered I had to backtrack and learn inversions correctly.  I highly recommend the year membership, the cost is sooo reasonable.  Follow in order as much as possible, don't rush ahead and be patient with yourself.  Don't compare to what others are doing and time frame, everyone is different.

My membership ran out and I can't wait till I can sign up again, especially for the flexibility and other training videos she has now.

Everyone started at different levels of fitness.  I started at 52 yrs old and had been very active in power flex and aerobics at local gym.  I thought I was totally in shape for pole, but found that it was almost like starting over with fitness.  It is so different than anything I've done physically and had to work my way up with strength, stamina, etc.

What kind of pole do you have?  Welcome to sv which is full of encouragement and support 🙂

Any ideas as to how veneers can connect to meet at pole convention.  This sounds like an excellent opportunity to actually meet veneers finally!  🙂  This pole convention is very close to me and don't know if it will be so close again.

I'd like to know if something happens.  Depends on schedule, time difference etc.  It's been a long time since I've used MSN, guess I could check it out again.  I have Skype account.

Thanks for that Jag, I was trying to figure out what word to use to describe my pronunciation, haha  I also pronounce it like that!  When I heard David Owen say it, I didn't know what he meant so he had to explain to me.  I didn't tell him how I pronounce it.  I wonder how many others use different accent on it??  Does this fall under this thread? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

@PoleSkivvies, I have every intention of being there.  I'll have to swing a day or two off work, but that's the plan!!!  BTW, how is "veneers" pronounced??  I say it 'veneers' and someone else said "veneers"  LOL  There's no difference in print!!!  I'll have to get someone on webcam during Friday chat.

I do plan on being there!  Should probably start ordering the veena buttons!!!  Sure would be awesome to meet as many veneers as possible!  it's about a 5-6 hour drive for me, but at least it's in California and not on the east coast 🙂

Sure know how you feel, tarah!  Remember I was sick not too long ago and couldn't pole for three weeks, then still took another week because of lack of energy.  I thought I'l lose a lot and have to start over LOL  However, much to my surprise picked up where I left off.  You will too, get some rest and let your body heal. Can't wait to see you back at it 🙂

Yup, same here!  I love it when I can accomplish a couple of shoulder mounts, etc. during a practice.  Then I spend time working on different things.  As I'm getting ready to cool down, I decide to throw in another shoulder mount and sometimes cannot get up.  Instead of forcing it or other things, I realize it's time to stop before I hurt myself (which I did few years ago)

I think most of us have been there…done that.  You're not alone

@Dani, glad that you not using momentum and back of your ankle to complete invert. Others can give more appropriate tips, however, when I was learning this, I had trouble getting hips up so legs could more parallel to the floor.  A couple of gals mentioned it was because I was stopping short of tilting my body all the way back, like looking at wall behind me.  I realized I was not tipping totally back and was still looking up at the ceiling instead of behind me.  I've been working on that and it's getting better.  Again, make sure you are not kicking and using momentum to get up 🙂

@xtinax, I was also taught kick up into invert and ended up pulling a muscle in my ribs so bad I couldn't do anything for two months.  It was painful I thought I fractured a rib.  Then I found this site and learned SO much.  I did stop what I was doing and went back to the basics.  The lessons here were a great help in correcting it.  Don't take a chance on hurting yourself. 🙂

September 18, 2011 at 8:40 pm in reply to: Where can I find a sturdy, yet inexpensive pole?

From my experience it's difficult to know what will work for each person, as weather, sweaty hands, etc. are different.  I also learned on a stainless steel lil mynx and it worked okay for two years.  I did struggle with it being slippery but was able to progress.  Once I began interm tricks, etc I had to change poles.  I got an xpole xpert 50mm titanium gold.  It has great grip; however, I struggled with spins because it is so grippy and my body got "tore up" since I still have tendency to have death grip, etc.  Right now I am practicing on an xpole 45mm chrome and "love it!"  It is not mine; however, and once it goes to its new home, I'll order my 45mm, still not sure if I'll get chrome or titan gold.

I also go to a studio that has stainless steel platinum stage poles, both 45mm & 50mm.  I also like those poles and don't have problem with being slippery, probably because they are "broken in."

As you can see, there are many options.  Drives me nuts since I'm a horrible decision-maker 🙂

BTW, the main reason I replaced my Lil Mynx is the extension rod for higher ceiling is on the top and not usable at all for anything.  When I started aerial invert, caterpillar climb, etc., was frustrated because I couldn't do anything all the way to the top.   Lil Mynx powder coated has more grip, but again, if extension rod is needed, it is not usable.

Good luck and let us know what you get 🙂
