I record every practise… cos I know the one time I dont record I will get a new trick or move and not have video evidence! 🙂 Also, I find it really helped me for example doin a gemini… and in my head my hands and feet looked nice but lookin back at the video I could see it didnt. lol

Just had to buy myself an external hard drive to put all my videos on as my laptop has run out of space. :-p

i was wondering… would a reverse grab/ pretzel spin be classed as a double or single spin? Same question for any reverse grab variation.

Also, it says 1/3 of spins should be used with the non dominant, so minimum spins is 6 (3 single, 2 double, 1 triple) so only 2 of these would be needed to be left handed? (More if I did more spins)

    Thank you!! x

    Hi Polekitten,

Firstly you are not alone with the superman being a nemesis move! It took me months, and I am still working on it. My problem was flipping my hips over, once I mastered that, as long as my grip was strong enough, I could adjust my legs to how I needed. I even found switching them round helped me, so the different leg was underneath. Also, my teacher showed me different ways of getting into it. I started from a side v then flippin over, I struggled with this way, so my teacher suggested doing it from a flatline scorpio so you can really bring your leg round. But i basically found practise makes perfect with this move, and your body will just ‘click’ one day!

As for your other issue… I had the EXACT same problem. I started with my first teacher and I really got on with her but the same thing… I got onto advanced tricks and she didn’t seem as confident teaching me these. Which isn’t reassuring for the student. She was lovely and was a brilliant teacher for beginners. But things like when I did an inverted V and i did not come down controlled and injured my back, but she said that i still did the move so marked me off for completing it. My point being… I did change schools and I was worried that it was not the right decision, but it was definitely the best decision for me. I do not think I would have been able to progress as well if I had stayed in my original class and I love my new teacher! At the end of the day safety should always come first and you really need a good, trusting relationship with your teacher.

Hope this helps a little, and did not bore you!!!

For me.. i try and pole minimum 3 times a week. This includes the hour class, and the one hour drop in class. I try and change what I do though, sometimes I will just focus on dancing and transitions; other days I will focus on practicing tricks and strengthening moves.

As for stretching, i try and do it whenever I can, even if its a quick 20 mins when lying on my bed. I try and do it daily, and just do light stretching on the days where I have not poled.

    Chemgoddess… what is Zumba?

oh wow, thank you guys so much!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

so david, have you always been able to do the splits? or did u have to practice doing them? Just because I have been trying for months at practicing doing the splits, and I am now worried I have gone back to square one? Obviously I have not tried doing them since I hurt my hip.

I’m really not a fan of Bob Cooleys lotus pose, on the wall or the floor. I don’t know why. Most stretches a LLOOVVEEEE doing. Just that one i don’t feel the same sought of satisfaction!! Most likely I am not doing it right.

And Veena, I am so gonna try the tennis ball massage, that sounds amazing!! And i would never of come up with that idea!

Also, I think this is the same problem, when I do a move like the CAR/CKR… or anything move where I have to cross my legs on the pole… sometimes my leg gets stuck and i kinda have to ‘pop it’ it when I am getting off. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

I have also noticed, saying if I am standing… this is with both my legs… if i raise my knee, then move it in a circular motion I can feel… and hear my hip click, or some sort of grinding sound. This is a different feeling to what i have now.

I think to conclude, I just have very dodgey hips and gonna try every ones suggestions cos really wanna get the splits (but i know not to rush)

April 3, 2010 at 10:35 am in reply to: Oh, those Splits!

After reading a book about flexibilty! (As i am not flexible at all). It gave really good advice, on making sure to really stretch opposing muscles. So I thought it was my hamstrings I needed to work on, but the book recommended that it was my tight quads restricting my hamstrings! if that makes sense! So i aallwwaays make sure I stretch both ways.

I find aswell, it isn’t my leg muscles that restrict me, its my hip flexors. And I am not a great fan of these stretches. (Think ive got dodgey hips, at the age of 24 https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif )

I think its good to stretch everyday if you can. This will help achieve the splits. I try to do it everyday, even if it is just for 15 mins or so. As I said, i am really far from the floor, and this is with my back leg bent. If I have them straight I might as well just be stood up.

But it will take a while, Ive been trying for 5 months, but I don’t always stretch (which is my downfall)

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_salut.gif

i rreeaallyyy wanna be able to do reverse sholder mount, cos that would be perfect. looks amazing! gonna keep trying.

And im gonna try climbing over my legs to get upright, was a thought I had. Just worried I could look a little funny if i got stuck. I will try it at home first! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Thanks for the advice!!!! ur stars!!!

i have the exact same problem. It only happens when I actually ‘add’ a track to the clips i use. The only thing I do now is just use the original music, it means that when I cut bits out I am cutting the music out too, but this does really annoy me.

Hopefully someone will know the answer, as I would love to be able to sort it out too. (I also use iMovie)

I always used to go nude near the end of the dance so that you are not "vunerable" for very long.

Think this is a really good idea, I think what I might do is go to the club, see how they work and have a talk with the other dancers. See what they do… I really couldn’t imagine doing a full dance, completely nude… as MelanieDA, i reckon it would show that I wasn’t comfortable!

Although…. I am liking the idea that lindsayanng had, making pole fitness as a living!!

I also have the dilemma i don’t know how i would feel telling my mum i was a lap dancer, hehe. she loves me for doing pole dancing, but she might worry bout me a little too much if i did lap dancing. hehe.

I RREEAAALLLYYYYY appreciate EVERYONE’S advice!!! it is helping me a lot!! xx

i work in a bar where i get to dance on the pole. The music thing isn’t an issue as I kinda have to dance to whatever there playing. I practically found it impossible when they were doing a hip hop night but i just did my thing.

I usually dance to a couple of songs, maybe three or four depending on the length of the songs. Then come off for a breather and plenty of water!!

I find when I start to feel I am getting tired I will just fill in moves with turns and pirohettes, also… someone told me that people like to take the time to look at woman’s body, so I will to just do a little pose stood by the pole, catch my breath then move on. Hair flips cool me down, and gets the hair out of my face too. Body waves as well, just little moves that don’t take it out of u but are super sexy.

As for repeating moves, I try a change my spins.. maybe do a one spin to another. Like carousel to reverse grab… then next time if i can only think of a carousel… do a carousel to a chair.

Hope it helps, i really have no clue what I am doing when I am at work. But no one seems to notice!! hehe.

    Have fun!!! x

Thank you so much ladies for the replies!!!!

I am not married, and have been single for quite a while. So this isn’t an issue. hehe. I’ve said that I will come to the bar to check it out and see how they work. I do not like the thought of slipped fingers though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif Didn’t really think about this. And it is a bar where people can drink. hhmmmm

I just wish I could muck about on the pole in my sweat pants and gym top for a living!!! That would be perfect!

Cool! I really didn’t expect that one, I suppose that’s cos we don’t have spring break here. Will feel a bit odd putting a bikini on while it still looks like winter. This should be fun! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

This is exactly the same thought I had! Still not quite sure what spring break is?! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif hehe

Also, what kind of songs should we dance too? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
