I have to say that I have fallen off the wagon a bit….I have a ton of stuff going on and I also have been having some tummy problems that have been making me not able to go to the gym and not eat properly, its very frustrating! We are going on vacation the second week of July to Disneyworld and I know we will be at the beach so I really need to step it up, no excuses! Someone come light a match under my butt please https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif How are you other ladies doing???

yes kiki please post! everyone here is super nice and honestly i think everyone is good no matter what level they are….there’s always something to learn from other dancers no matter how advanced or not advanced they are https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

No kicking allowed…the ones that tell you to kick are doing it incorrectly. You should never kick into an invert because it’s a bad habit and also if you can’t lift yourself into an invert you probably aren’t ready to do one so if you kick you could get injured. You can do it without kicking, just give yourself time to build the strength first, it took me 3 months to invert and much longer to do it effortlessly. I have this pole DVD and when the instructor taught an invert I remember her saying "don’t kick into it, it seems easier now but will affect your form negatively in the long run" and I found that to be true, lifting yourself into an invert is a good gateway move for other inverted poses/building arm strength for more advanced moves. good luck!

MemberApril 17, 2010 at 2:12 pm in reply to: How limited will I be because of my background?I understand where you’re coming from, I feel the same way because I also have no dance or gymnastics background, can’t do the splits, am not very flexible and had NO strength when I started dancing. But after doing it seriously for a year, I have been able to do things I never thought I could do, even though I still can’t do the splits and I’m still not Aleathea flexible…..but, from where I started, I have come a looooong way and I can almost do the splits. I have had a hard time when I see people on this site *cough cough Fleur* who have been dancing the same amount of time as me or less and are at a much more advanced level than I am. But I have to keep it in perspective because I have my own strengths and weaknesses so I think it’s hard to compare yourself to other girls who have dance/gymnastics backgrounds, if that was the litmus test for a good pole dancer I would be considered super crappy! And Litlbit from this site I believe is in her early 50’s and has just recently started training to be a body builder and says she’s never been in better shape, so I think it’s never too late to start training yourself for pole/dance/gymnastics whatever you want to do to get where you want to be in your own personal pole journey.

It sounds like everyone did well and I agree with ottersocks, I want to know more about Amber’s routine! Hers and Alethea’s seem like they were the ones that got the biggest reaction from the crowd. I was pulling for Karol, Amber and Alethea to be in the top three so I’m very sad Amber didn’t place but she’s still one of my favorite dancers!
