I also make sure to have a rest day when I practice or stretched a lot. But If I don´t feel sore I sometimes practice two days in a row.
One of the more popular pole dancers in germany said, that 2 hours per day would be a minimum if you want to be a professional pole dancer and take part in big competitions. That would be too much for my body!
Does anyone now how much professional pole dancers really practice?
-
maybe you could push out from a pike position with the leg like veena did it in her new video? otherwise I also think you would be to close to the pole
-
I wish we had such a dedicated pole dancer here in Germany. So great what you are doing, I would immediatly join one of your jams if I could!

i found the try where I let my leg slide a bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Td1j5mbMHc&feature=youtu.be
I´m sure you can even let it slide out further, I just was not brave enough as it was the first try =)
-
@sassafrassle: I tried it again yesterday with a split grip and although I grip also quite far apart with my hands I was able to let my leg slide out a bit. I´ll look whether I catched it on video and upload it
-
congrats sassafrassle! I hope you´ll nail it on your birthday =)

thanks paulette =)
i thought about teaching like that. But I think that wouldn´t fit to me. The vision of a student having trouble with a move and I can´t spot him/her scares me…
At the moment I teach at home a few students, normally one-on-one classes. Unless some friends want to get teached together and don´t care about sharing a pole. Since a few days I have two pole, but I only had one before.
I also thought about renting a room in a gym or a student bar near my home which has some big mirrors, too. But I want to get a teacher certification first.
I already planned everything, so that as soon as I have the money for my certification (and maybe even a third pole) I can start my own little business =)

thanks sunny =) I love teaching, I wish we had a pole studio here where I could teach classes
-
you make it look so easy! I thought about trying it with a true grip, too, but was scared the leg could push my hand off the pole… maybe next time =)
-
You´re right, it´s more like a pushing motion.
I retried the Marion Amber today with split grip and twisted grip. I would definitly recommend the split grip. The position in the twisted grip is already stresses the wrist, but when your leg pushes again your arm right under your wrist, it´s even worse.
Split Grip is only a little harder to hold, but much safer.
For the Split Grip Marion Amber I also grip directly over my hooked knee. When you now try to push around and it doesn´t work, try to lower your other hand a bit until you´re able to push your bottom up. My upper leg stays in the same position all the time, I only extend the leg while pushing up.
Keep your legs together and slowly extend the other leg. If you fall back while extending your bottom was not pushed up enough
-
i have only tried it with a twisted grip. for me the main problem was that i always felt back into the pole. For me it helped to grip very close to my upper knee and quite low with the other hand.

thanks so much girls!! =)

congrats cupcake =) it´s always so great to here that one of my tutorials could help someone! that´s the best thing about teaching no matter whether personal or through tutorials.
sending you kisses and hugs back!!

I totally understand how annoying your experiences were. A teacher should always care about the health of her students. If a student would get injured in one of my classes it would be my fault and I would feel responsible (except if a student didn´t follow my instructions) and so shoulde every teacher feel in my opinion.
If your teacher is not experienced enough to handle your special elbows, he should be honest and let you know. This would be better than giving you unclear instrucitons.
It sometimes can be good to gross out people 😉 as long as it doesn´t injure you. But I think it´s good that your try to position your arms normal, so you´re on the safe side
-
thanks lynette! I have to admit that I didn´t know that I could get my leg that high on the ground ^^
You need so much back flexibility for this move!
Yours looks very beautiful, too! let me know whether you could extend your leg as much as on the floor when you try it aerial!
-
thanks soooo much ollie! I never thought someone would find a video of it =)
I get into it the same way, but now I can be really sure that it´s possible to do it from a dove! I also saw, that she kept her foot at the same place and also moved her hands.
This video really helped!! It looks so beautiful how she gets into it and when she is in the backsplit.
Can´t wait to try it again. But I might have to take a rest day for my back, I don´t wan´t to overstress it ^^
thanks again ollie <3

i think it´s possible from a dove, but it´s so difficult. Here´s a picture of my doing the pose on the floor (with a sock, so I can slide up the pole with my foot easier^^):
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/506/backsplitfloor.jpg
When I go into it from dove I don´t have enough grip with socks, but without socks I can´t slide my foot up to my hands. Because of the pressure my "foot grip" is super strong.
So I tried to slide down with my hands, but I couldn´t get my leg as straight as when I stand on the ground (had to bend my leg, because I was too close to the floor, but extending the lower leg is no problem):

Any ideas how to make it easier on the pole? If I could just get my leg as straight as on the floor I would be totally pleased. I don´t matter if it´s not completely straight at the moment as I´m not that flexible yet
-
thanks for your replied. I had a private class with her and we talked about he. She said she never had pain because of her hyperextension, too. which is really good to here.
but I will keep all your tipps and experiences in mind, once we do our first split grips!
-
i also looked through some of anastasia´s videos, but couldn´t find anything yet… I´ll practice now a bit and will try how far I can get into it from a dove (maybe with some help of my boyfriend ^^) and let you know how it worked
-
wow so many replies while I was sleeping =) Thanks so much!
@lina:I saw anastasia doing it only on the floor (variation with foot on same side like the body) and wondered if she just lifts the lower leg, then it would be the flying light
@reenie: Milien Elayne´s pose looks a bit like done from a dove maybe, too. maybe It´s a combination of sliding with the foot up and walking down a bit with the hands? I think I´ll write her and ask how she gets into it. I´m sure if you´re flexible enough and have some practice you could completely extend your legs from her position, then it would be that backsplit I would like to learn.
@chumpkin: that variation in the video was the only one I could imagine how to get into ^^ How would you get from it into one of the variations where the foot touches the pole? (besides her backsplit looks soooo beautiful!!)
@ember: that would be great! as i also can´t remember that I ever saw more of that trick than just photos
-
@karmel: try simfy. you can listen 5h per month for free and all songs are in very good quality. i´m also from germany and i hate when i want to watch a video or listen to a song and can´t because i live here =(
-
this trick looks so beautiful, I will also have to try it! Looks very impressive how you fly around your pole!
Besides, I also totally understand that it´s not allowed to upload tutorials here. I think Amy wrote a very interesting article on her blog about students who teach during a class. I think it´s the same online as in a "live class".
I hope it´s okay that I post the link, Amy? ^^

good decision not to try it when you are scared! i love my yoga blocks, you can do so much with them. I´m sure they´ll help you, too!
-
i worked on my handstand lift with yoga blocks under my feet, which made it much easier. but they are of course more stable
what happened lyme lyte? hope you didn´t fall?
