Knowing that it is based on a lil minx pole, which I have used(though I haven't used the studio veena pole) you need to extend it a little more and it should feel really stable.  When you put it on the pad it will be at an angle and you should have to pull up REALLY HARD to move it into place, it should definitely not slide easily into place.  Hope that helps
