I ended up with a 36″ single tab, but I kinda wish it was double for more versatility of use for top if hoop moves. I went with a single because that what I see at most venues, performances.

I rubbed down my sticky tape with chalk. It’s messy the first couple of times it’s used, but mich better than the ooey-gooey tape.

I wear a small in pole fit, so I ordered a small in Alethea’s-fit perfectly. Fabric is stretchy & comfy!

marie jo & chantelle are my faves (32F for me), but I aldo like Elle McPhearson. My favorite place to shop ( and be sized correctly) is Nordstrom’s-they have THE BEST customer service!

that’s my body type: long torso, normal to short legs. at my last class I felt like I really had to extend myself to get my feet to the top of the hoop from sitting in the hoop, but my legs were also a little tight from 2 pole playdates that week.

I spoke with a local vendor yesterday. Her daughter is 5’4.5″ or 5′ 5″, ( like me) and she started with a 34″ lyra and “outgrew” it. As she progresses she needed more room. Ican wait to get to class on Saturday and see what my instructor recommends I get.

Thanks, wildredhead! I am going to measure myself because Jackie offers hoops in 1″ increments. All the links, names provided here turned out to be nice people, but I have to say the Jackie has been the most helpful and at the best price. However, the 2nd best price was only $15 more.

Please keep adding more advise as you guys think of it.

thx misslara-I DO want to spin and i want hollow, so knowing that single spins easier, plus most venues have single … looks like single is the way to go.

ANYTHING else u ladies can think of is MUCH appreciated!

I was leaning towards the double…does the flat top offer an advantage over the round top? The round is just so much prettier, IMO.

Thanks so much-I will contact them shortly!

thanks for the link, I’ll check in with them later today.
Thanks to my husband, I was already planning on installting some type of hoist system to raise & lower the hoop. At the studio where I take classes they have 2 lyras, one dbl-tabbed hung 3 ft off the ground, and we just sit in it to mount, but it’s flat on top (rather than a complete circle) which we use in conjuntion with the chains to work that upper level. The 2nd lyra is a single tab (complete circle) hung 4 ft from ground, and we got into in by doing a knee hang.

If ya’ll think of anything else let me know!

I enjoyed hearing from someone that has been to Bobbi’s…so this another illustration of us always wanting what we don’t have…myself included! I just came from the Alethea& Cleo workshops, and a couple of things were kinda hmmm. moments…1) Alethea said if a trick clearly isn’t for her she doesn’t waste he time on trying to force it 2). Cleo was my spotter for Ayesha (got my 1st one there!), and ahe admitted that she doesn’t do Ayesha’s 3) When Cleo taught us some floor moves they looked awesome, but pretty easy moves…those girls can command an audience on pure style & stage presence…kwim? After Cleo showed us the floor routine, Alethea taught us het adaptation of the same routine, and it was much slower of course, but she only changed a couple of the moves…but it felt so-o different.

I had been trying to get my SMs consistenly for 5-6 months until Aletha’s workshop. Two things made a major difference, and I immediately got it-and do it 100% of the time now! 1) my pole partner (Black Orchid) said ti envision meat hooks in you chet pulling you up 2) Aletha sweeps the opposite leg of the side ur SMing on from the outside to inside (pictire a large half circle motion while that leg is straight), as u start lifting off the ground, tuck the 2nd leg until ur horizontal, then go into a full “V” or straddle position. If u feel urself slipping down the pole pull ur elbows in together more and pull ur chest up towards ceiling. Note- she has going into SM V’s, not straight legs: if u want to do straight legs, envision crotch to pole last…not toes to pole.

I wasn’t “fearless” eneough until I qas at Alethea’s workshop, and had Cleo spotting me. The only thing AA really added was that when u get into ur high caterpillar she had us do hip rolls before trying to take legs off – to help find our balance. I got my first Ayesha there!

Thanks for bringing this topic up…and thanks for all the great tips. When I saw it on Felix’s adv video, I tried ut once, but then I was too afraid of hurting myself. I’ll try it again.
