MemberDecember 26, 2013 at 9:28 am in reply to: Pole Events in NYC Are Seriously LackingNYC used to have a ton of events but this past year a lot have been sidelined. Besides USPDF and APFA there was Polesque and Aerial Amy was holding an event called Flight Club but she took close to a year step back from pole (she is back). I would follow Amy as she is going to be teaching again at a studio that is more about showcasing than competing.

Yeah, I agree with what everyone else has said. Those screws should not stick out. Mine are set quite deep. When looking at the adjuster uncovered there are 3 flat columns in the grooves of the threading. Those screws are supposed to line up with those flat parts. These are the flat parts: http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/734292_1991611627578_1739300642_n.jpg

There was a challenge a little while back (if I recall correctly) that was dancing to the same song in 2 different styles. It may be worthwhile to look that up and get some inspiration. I will also say that there have been some songs that have really surprised me to dance to; songs I never even considered but at the end of it I could not even remember a single thing I did, I just knew it *felt* amazing. I can also say that the S Factor dvds are really good at training yourself to get out of your head.
-
What I suggest is to put them all on a playlist, turn the lights down low, cover up every single mirror and just move. Get out of your head. Feel your body. You will have a greater connection to the song if you let your body feel it instead of just listening to it and imagining. This is a great way to start your pole session and get your pole and body warm.

Do you know Jessie out there? If you do talk to her. She has had all sorts of issues with kitten getting stuck (kittens her pole’s name I believe). If I was not on my phone I would pull up threads for you. I know there are quite a few on here.

Have you lost/gained weight in the last few weeks? Has your diet changed (holidays)? Are you on your period or possibly pregnant? Have you started birth control or changed any supplements/drugs/vitamins? Have you gotten a massage or possibly need an adjustment in your spine? There are so many things that could be going on here. Even holiday stress can have an effect.

At first I thought that was the Roxy spin but it is not. That is something Josiah (BadAzz) came up with and I cannot remember the name. You may be able to search him on YT or FB and find a tutorial.

Also if you buy the clear gel salicylic acid simple stuff it is the same active ingredient as both of them and you can find that for about $3-4 at any drug store.

I do not know the studio personally and it is in Alphretta but I do know one of the instructors and she is amazing. The name of the studio is Amoora Dance and Fitness and her name is Sahrit (hoppinariel on SV). Joe’s is known for their booty clapping videos but that is about all I know about them. I think there is PoLaTeaz also but have only been to the one (that closed) in Houston.

MemberDecember 4, 2013 at 5:22 am in reply to: Have you ever met someone in person from SV?I am less weary meeting pole peeps than I am people from other forums. It also depends on how active they are and how well I feel I know them. Being friends on FB helps as well as mutual friends. If it was someone who just came here and messaged me and wanted to meet my red flags would go up.
On a side note, David Owen and Junglecat were basically stalked when they performed in Columbus a few years back. At that time they were both active on this forum and that was the onely reason we knew them. Also jams used to be planned at studios (or when a snow storm hit someones house) and people would come from all over. I kinda miss those days….

There are currently only 2 in the US that make free standing/stage poles and that is Platinum Stages and XPole. In the UK you also have the option of RPole. I heard that Poledanzer was working on a stage pole but I have not seen it out yet.
-
I saw that article on Facebook and you just reminded me that I really want to do this! well I can do handstands up against the wall and the pole and then hold for a few seconds I cannot do a free standing one and it drives me crazy!
-
I would start with headstands against the wall or your pole first o learn how o stabilize your core. Handstands require a lot of upper body strength along with core so it you have neither then it is difficult to master. Who I was teaching I taught reverse handstands using the pole prior to even working on the wall.

MemberDecember 3, 2013 at 9:26 am in reply to: State of constant soreness..is that weird? There is absolutely no proof that occasional nsaid usage is harmful. If you are taking 2000 mg a day for months on end you will develop issues but a few hundred mg for a few days is not going to hurt you.

I am all about learning from as many people as you can.
