Veena, I am not the first to come up with that method. Honestly I do not remember even where I learned that as it may have been in a forum eons ago or from some person online or possibly even Pantera…..I honestly cannot remember. But it works, at least it did for me! The studio I go to now goes one step farther (in a higher level) and incorporates the squat but without holding onto the pole. That teaches not only the leg control but proper body balancing. Needless to say, I still have not mastered that one!

Whoever told you this is clueless. Sorry to be so blunt but seriously?? Look at Veena. Look at the majority of the “big names”. I have thigh gap and I have been poling for years. Zoraya Judd is bowlegged and she ROCKS the pole!

Jenn, have you actually tried the SSA? Before spending that kind of money please find someone who has one and try it out first.

    I love you Charley!

Dr Scholls used to make a deodorant foot powder that worked really well and during the summer I have been known to spray deodorant on my feet. My issue is more during the summer when I get dressed up and don’t wear hose.

The mix of salt and slush does not help either.

Pole climb is more leg than arms. I got my girls used to it by “mounting” the pole and then holding that leg position and practicing straightening the legs then going back to squatting several times in a row, never moving the foot position. It was not until they could demonstrate this that I move on with adding the pole hold and repositioning of the feet.

A few things that I always taught in my first classes were the walk, standing up, walking around the pole, becoming comfortable with the pole, half turn in front of the pole and step arounds. I also taught them how I instructed using outside and inside for my foot and hand placement. I usually also spent about 5 minutes talking about who I am and how I got into pole and how I got to where I was at that point.

One thing that I will warn about in a gym location is privacy. If there are glass walls between the class and the gym I can pretty much guarantee that your clients will feel self conscious. Although you state fitness studio and then state gym so I am not sure which one you will be teaching at.

2nd floor should not be an issue. Just be sure to check it especially during the change of seasons as temperature differences can affect both your ceiling and your floor and may cause the pole height to not be set properly.

When I get the sideways look I either respond that I am a chemist or I say…..”ummmm, take a good look….I don’t have the body to be a stripper.”

If you compare Shadow’s skills in 2009 to Alethea’s it is not that bizarre; Alethea only started pole dancing in 2008.

No, she is not hyper extending to this extent. It is more of a stretch/strengthening exercise to train your legs to stay straight. I have been in numerous classes that do this exact same stretch. I want to say it is more of a gymnastics or martial arts type conditioning move as my husband has also done them in his martial arts classes, just not in straddle.

If you are sitting in pike and flex your feet bring your heels just off the ground. Most people have no issue doing this. Now with your heels still off the ground point your toes. This is the part that is difficult because it is forcing you to not bend at the knee which is what we typically want to do when we point. This is all that the move is, except she has you doing it in straddle.

Just like with doctors and massage therapists, there are good and bad chiropractors. I have grown up with chiropractics and currently just started going to one again due to the car accident I was just in. There are things that a massage therapist cannot fix and I refuse to be put on muscle relaxers and pain killers when I know that with the proper spinal alignment I can be fixed. I will also note that there are a TON of pole professionals who regularly go to the chiro. With the big push in alternative medicines, chiropractics has grown exponentially. Most medical coverage will also pay for visits.

The second video is of Shadow and what should be noted is that the video was posted in 2009. Shadow not only does pole but lyra and silks too. I do not know who the first video is.

It is less a lack of flexibility as it is a lack of strength. Be sure that your knees are pointing up when you do this and not to the side. You can also work on this with your legs straight in front of you instead of straddled.

At the end of the month pole will be at The Arnold. There is a HUGE jam taking place at Infinity Aerial. There is nothing that I know that is more motivating than being around a ton of people who all love to pole! Infinity is also hosting a few workshops that weekend. You really should take advantage of this opportunity!
