I am also in the inverted too early and hurt my shoulder/back group.  I have been poling for 4+ years now and I STILL have issues with my shoulder.  It will never be the same.  Trust me, you do not want to be in your 40's and wake up to pain every morning or even worse, have the pain wake you in the middle of the night.  Take your time and learn the proper technique.

BTW, you can get into a crucifix and many other moves by doing a reverse handstand.  If your instructor has not shown you how to do it, look it up here or on the web.  When I was teaching I got girls into this move first and then into an inverted crucifix/bat hang before they ever inverted.  To me this is your escape move and you should have this before ever inverting.  But that is me.  Everyone teaches differently.

  • The first instructor told her that she was out of shape and would enjoy pole dancing better if she was more fit (is this not true?) and the second instructor told her that the class was more of an advanced beginner and that she was quite far behind the rest of the students .  Both statemements were truthful and while none of us know the tone of voice that was used or the body language, just based on what was written we are all jumping to conclusions that the instructors did something wrong.  I am sure that the first instructor probably could have used more tact with her delivery but in no way did either of these instructors directly put her down…again, BASED ON WHAT WAS WRITTEN BY THE OP.  The responses thus far have been attacking the instructors and not focusing on what the real issue is…this member took a class and left feeling low.  We should be focusing on helping this member.  What if the instructors she is talking about were people you know or took classes with and held in high regard?  Would all of the responses here be the same??  What is she was talking about Karol, or Alethea, or Jenyne or you name the current pole star….what would your response be?

Yeah, see there is no way in the world ANY bobby pin will hold back my hair.  Most normal clips won't even stay in.  I have a lot of thick straight hair.

I am another don't shampoo every day girl.  I usually condition only one day and I do that because there is no way I am getting a comb through my hair when it is wet without conditioner.

And I am also unsure of the size of the grabbit for the XJoint.  I think Lowes had a pack that had 3 different sizes in it.

Sorry….I just realized after hitting send that you were talking about teh XJoint.  You can still get the grabbit from Lowes then you will need to buy a new XJoint from XPole.

I worte this in another thread.  For about $10 you will be golden.  Finding the metric screw will be the hardest part.

Stripped X locking set screw.  This is the set screw that keeps the pole locked into the stage.  I am not really sure how you strip stainless but we manageed to do it….twice.  I have an idea on how this happened and it comes down to being in a rush to set up/take down poles and not having the hex key in all the way.  M8x8 is the set screw that you need to replace them.  The ones that XPoles uses have an oval bottom….I have been unsuccessful in finding those (and those that know me and my searching capabilities, seriously, these things are next to impossible to find).  The standard cone bottom will work just fine. Lowes and Home Depot do not carry metric set screws.  I ended up at a little ACE Hardware store.  Also, The Grabit Broken Bolt and Screw Extractor, size 2 is what you will want/need to get this screw out.  I tried a few different styles and this one by far is the best in this situation.  I got mine at Lowes for about $8.

I can relate.  I want to grow my bangs out and it is killing me.

When I was going from short to long it really helped to find a few hair styles in between that worked for me.  I am lucky though as my hair grows fairly quickly.  I cannot tell you how good of friends I was with pony tail holders and clips.

  • I am just going to speak up here and then I will shut up.  No one "makes you feel" a certain way.  The way you feel is your direct response to a situation.  If you did not like the emotional response that came over you then you and only you have the power to change that.

I don't know you from Adam.  But I do know that I have had students that smiled and went along with a class when they were miserable.  I have had students go from having a good time to breaking down in tears and feeling worthless.  I did not MAKE those students feel that way, they did.  I have told numerous students that you need a certain amount of strength to do moves but then I give them the foundation to build that strength.  When an instructor tells you that you need to be in shape to do a certain move then you should have asked what you needed to work on to get there.  We are in charge of our own destinies and we are in charge of our own emotions.  ASK for what you want.

While I cannot offer up improvements seeing as I don't know what your site looks like now, I can offer up a few suggestions:

    1.  Please, no music or instant loading videos.

    2.  Make sure that the background and text colors are easy on the eyes.

    3.  Pricing.  I really hate having to go to an outside source and sign up before knowing the price of your classes.

    4.  CURRENT schedule

    5.  Description of the feel of your studio…..are you a slinky haven for women or are you more of a gymnastics/fitness type pole studio or possibly do you offer both?

    6.  Please please please have some body proof read your web page.  There is nothing that screams unprofessional to me than a bunch of misspellings and typos. (This is a real description taken from a real site: XXXX Pole Dance is a professional studio, with professional staff members. XXXX Pole Dance offer large classroom settings, small classroom settings, private lessons, semi private lessons, 1 on 1 lessons, girls night, out and private parties.)

    7.  Make sure that whatever your home page is does not trigger filters.  There are a lot of pole websites I cannot see because they are blocked by my work.

    8.  Don't use stock photos or photos you found on the web without making sure you can use them.  I am so sick of seeing Sheila Kelley and Annastasia on websites it is not even funny and I know that Sheila's pictures are all copyrighted.

Use extension 102 which is Kimara.  She is an east coast girl now.

  • Please before going to this other class TALK to the owner/instructor and explain your abilities and issues.  In no way should an instructor make you feel out of place but at the same time if someone does not speak up and say something how does the studio know that you were unhappy?  I have been in this situation with students and while difficult, there are other things that can be shown besides pull ups.  All of the beginner spins can be done with your feet on the ground to start out.  There are bends and turns and walks and hair flips and body rolls and soooooooo many transitions that can be worked on.  I was lucky that my mixed class was more than happy to take some time to rework moves they had learned or work it on their opposite side.

One last thing, please enter this new class as if you were entering one for the first time.  Do not take the issues you have had at these other studios and walk in with a chip on your shoulder.  It is not fair.  And again, I strongly urge you to talk to the owner/instructor and to also talk to teh owner of teh otehr studios and tell them how you feel.

Vic Secret no longer has 36 inch inseams….at least they no longer did when I called them about 2 years ago inquiring about a pair that I had found at a resale shop that I wanted more of.  And Old Navy up here is hit or miss….very few stores carry them.  I did however find a pair at Maurices and promptly went out and bought 3 pair (took me contacting 5 stores to do so).
