MemberJune 13, 2011 at 7:09 am in reply to: Morning Sunrise TV – support for Pole Dance as a sport! There is a studio in town that mainly teaches childern all sorts of different circus skills….pole, silks, balancing, stilt walking, juggling. He has been on the news a few times and also does parades. His son was featured in Pole Spin magazine (http://polespinmag.com/welcome/2011/03/kidsonpole/). There is a comp coming up in Denver that is going to have kids and I think they are trying to work on something for the APFA comp in October.
I was at a break dancing comp this past weekend with kids that were just barely walking doing all sorts of break dance and balance moves. If people would get the notion that pole is scandalous out of their heads we would not see so many of these stories. Kids take gymnastics at early ages, swim, play at the playground on jungle gyms….really, what is the difference?

The top of the pole is higher than the ceiling tiles but we cannot remove the ceiling tiles completely due to building codes. We have cookie cutters that we hot glued onto the tiles that the tops of the poles stick through. We set the stages up and take them down for class.

There are a few ladies that are not a size 2. Lori Martin amazes me all the time…she is over 6' in all of her glory.

Oh,I don't know if any of you have seen the new XPole that was at the Pole Convention. It attaches to the ceiling with a pivot mount and then can store attached to the ceiling. So basically you just swing it up out of the way.

We have Lites where I teach and I have had guys on it without issue.
You can see them starting at about 5:20 in this video. And that is me screaming in the background to start and then me in black a little later screaming yet again.

Oh, she is located outside Chicago.

I am not sure where you are located but Mary Ellyn from Empowerment Through Exotic Dance has a cert program that not only covers teaching but also running the business. I believe that much of her course can be taken online.

MemberJune 10, 2011 at 5:43 am in reply to: Thinking of buying Pleaser Kiss3010 thigh high boots…I have a pair of Pleaser boots that I bought when I first started pole dancing (3+ years ago) that are still my faves. I have scuffed the tops of them and worn off near the toes a little on spins but have not had the vinyl come off just from pole work. I am sad because the heels are starting to separate from the boot and Pleaser does not make them any more. Mine are the standard lace up kind, again, no stretch to them.

Where is the creaking/squeeking sound coming from? Thre are a few threads on this that I came across when I was having issues with setting up my pole but it really depends on what is causing the sound.

ANY pole can fall on you if it is not installed correctly or checked before use. There was a thread here just recently where someone had their X fall on them.
Stay away from peek a boo, Electra, flirty girl and one that is called "my pink pole" or something to that effect. These are strictly props and while they can handle some things, once you get into some of the more advanced moves will show their "worth".
And as a side note, I bought my Lil Mynx used 3.5 years ago for $140 and I could probably sell it today for the same price. A good pole will hold its value and will not be difficult to sell if one day you decide to do such.

I can buy cans of tuna at Aldi for about 60 cents, plus I like it 10x better than most of the store brands. It is BIG chunks of tuna as opposed to that fine crap that looks like cat food and you lose half of when you try to squeeze the water out.
Speaking of, has anyone ever tried tuna and bbq sauce? I know it sounds strange but it really is not bad.

MemberJune 7, 2011 at 7:22 am in reply to: Thinking of buying Pleaser Kiss3010 thigh high boots…You can pretty much tell the lycra ones as they will have a gand of stitching at the top and typically will say "stretch" on every other site but the Pleaser site.

MemberJune 6, 2011 at 10:25 am in reply to: poles installation in studio and false ceiling: help and advice wanted!Do you know how tall the ceilings are?
I know some that have installed poles by removing the ceiling panels and using the solid ceiling. My studio bought X Stage Lites and we cut holes into the ceiling tiles. The only downside to working on stages is not having a lot of ground around your pole for floorwork.

There is going to be another Showcase outside of Detroit in July.

MemberJune 6, 2011 at 10:14 am in reply to: Thinking of buying Pleaser Kiss3010 thigh high boots…Do they have any more detail on the boot? I know that the ones that are coated lycra do not like the pole and tend to have the coating come off the first time it touches pole. Lots of pole dancers have complained about it.

Lyme, you must be talking about Joel (Poledancefan). He is the greatest! He stops in every once in a while but has been absent from the forums for a bit.
I have had my hubs doing some things but he has issues with grip. I am also taking classes with Mattcrobat who mixes break dancing with his acro skills.

MemberJune 5, 2011 at 9:20 pm in reply to: Favorite High Protein snacks??? Looking for ideas!I have been buying Body Fortress Whey Isolate from Walmart of all places. It is $21 for a 2lb jar and is pretty tasty. Not all WM's carry the isolate. I buy the isolate because it has low cholesterol (for the hubs) and 30g of protein per scoop. Optimum Nutrition has a really good isolate too but it is twice the cost of the BF stuff.
Chia seeds are also a good addition and I will mix half quinoa and half brown rice whenever I make rice.
I have a vitamix so I am a big smoothie fan. During the summer my food intake greatly decreases and it is a way for me to get lots of stuff into my body.

My current favorite is vanilla whey isolate mixed with orange juice. Tastes like an orange julius!
Oxygen magazine and Clean Eating magazine have lots of snack ideas.

Just to add a quick note, Rebecca has been in the circus for a good deal of her life and travels around the world with her act. Her bendiness comes from YEARS of training.

If you watch the video of Aera from Polesque Rebecca gets into it at the beginning of the routine.
