I am also happy that you did get proper instruction. I cannot tell you how many people have injured their back from inversions (almost as many as hurt shoulders from twisted grip/reverse grabs or forearms from bracket holds).
Were you doing anything else when you inverted, as in trying to spin it or try a new move? I have had times when even slipping a little with my hands I will twist my torso ever so slightly and I will end up with issues. Right now it is just best to let it rest (yeah, some of the hardest words for a pole dancer to hear). Deep freaking painful massage has been the only thing that has helped me. If I were you though I would get an xray done just to be sure that there is no other damage. The last thing you want to do is mess up your spine.

MemberFebruary 1, 2012 at 3:41 pm in reply to: Nerve damage in back … from inverting? Or one-sided pole?Sounds to me like you are inverting probably before you should be. There are a few threads on here regarding when you should invert. Everyone wants to go upside down so quickly and do not engage in theh proper conditioning. Those of us that have been around for a while are not just saying this stuff to keep you guys "down"….we are saying it because when we learned we were taught sloppy technique and ended up injured.
You most likely have a knot under your shoulder blade that is spasming. I personally go to a sports massage therapist about every 6 weeks. If the muscle is swollen it does not matter what a chiro does for alignment, if they do not do anything to alleviate the swelling/knot the muscle is just going to push your vertebra out of alignment again.

Lots of threads on here. They all point back to this one:

MemberFebruary 1, 2012 at 2:49 pm in reply to: My competition routine – please critiqueI also want to thank you for actually listening to the critiques without getting upset. After the recent events I was hesitant to post anything but at the same time in order for us to grow I think we need others to look at our performance and see where we need work.

THAT was the one I could not think of! Thanks!

Veena's lessons
wikipole.org
pole dance dictionary
pocket pole
pfa flash cards
There is another one that I cannot think of at the top of my head right now.

MemberFebruary 1, 2012 at 6:03 am in reply to: My competition routine – please critiqueThe one biggest thing I saw is that you seemed rushed through the entire performance. You have a slow song however you are moving from trick to trick to trick….some of those could have been heald quite a bit longer. On the trick front….it also seemed like you were trying to throw every single move that you know into this perfomance. Every single move you do should be something you don't even have to think about. It is not always about the tricks but how you accentuate them. By the middle of the song I had already forgotten what you had done at the beginning because there was just too much there.

You just can't catch a break can you?
Try using a fan in your poel room aimed at you and the pole. This worked wonders for me during the summer with my powder coated pole.

The only advice I can give you is to seriously look into the competition that you are entering. There have been so many people who after competing were very upset in how judging was done. Make sure that you read and agree with every part of the contract. Areas that will be judges/scored should be written.
As for "professional" that all depends on the comp. You are not considered professional in USPDF until you have placed in one of the regional or the finals. The mIdwest comp just has rules that rookies cannot invert in their routine. It does not matter if you can, you just could not during the comp.
Do some searching around the forum. There is lots of really good info on comps and what to expect.
There are so many other options of getting your name out there without competing so be sure this is something you really want to do. Showcases can be just as much fun without all of the stress.

I have seen Marlo I think do something like this but she was not straight out to the side. I have seen people do this from a shoulder mount and then passing both legs through one side as if you were going to do a flip, instead grabbing the pole with both legs. I have never seen it with the general knee hold position, more with a double knee grip.
-
That was a lot of fun. So jealous that you have such a fun place to work!

XPole a few years back has a rash of bad poles that were chipping and peeling. I have not heard of that problem on newer poles. I teach on X Stages that were ordered last April and we ahve not had any issues with the poles at the studio.

That mount looks all plastic.
And I see it as anything less than $150 (new) is a danger to your health.
-
The most painful for me has been knee hold.

I no longer have posket pole since my phone took a crap. There are so many videos out there that tell you to swing that outside leg to get yourself up, whether you are in front or behind the pole. If you learn this way and rely on this there is no way you will ever be able to get an aerial invert plus it is so much harder to go back and fix mistakes than it is to learn properly (and probably slower) in the first place.

This is a caontrolled invert even though she is using her calf to bring her up to the pole completely:

I cannot access any videos at all from work. I seem to remember Rena Ladybug stating that she used to kick a lot into her inverts so maybe if you look into some of her earlier videos on here? At least I think it was Rena.
To me kicking up is basically when you need to catch the pole with your foot and then use your foot to pull your body to the pole.

That is what we are here for! Hey, have you popped into chat today? Fridays are the day to do it and connect with us in real time. I cannot access from work but will generally try to check in when I get home. I realize it is very late for you but there are others from Europe that are there during the day.

I would suggest going back through and reading a lot of the invert threads on this site. There is sooooo much good information. If you type inverting into the search bar you will get lots and lots of threads. It all really boils down to safety and not destroying your body. When you are young this may not bother you but do you really want to screw up your back and shoulders the rest of your life just because your teacher felt a need to teach you tricks instead of being concerned about proper delvelopment and injury prevention?

That was more of a "Please dont make me try to pole in styeel toes or worse yet, put a huge dent in my pole from them!"

Lee, Hobby Lobby carries them. You can buy them loose in the jewelry section or you can find them with tacky backs in the scrapbooking section. I used the pink scrapbooking ones on my pink shoes.
Ugh, I thought I had pics here on SV….must have been in the DIY heels FB page.
