I am not sure how a 2×4 would not be srong enough.  When they are run for joists they are laid on end so you would be drilling into the 4 inch side, not the 2 inch side.

While the ayesha picture is kind of cool it is unrealistic as it is only one handed.  It looks like you took a gymnastics photo and flipped it and put it on a pole.

How big are these pendants and what metal?

The ones I have seen at Infinity work like this: the bottom plate cover lifts up (the whole thing) and there is a long bar/pin that slides in and out to make it spin/not spin.  Take the bar out, drop the plate and go.  On their main page site you can actually see the mechanism.  Where they have the "Party Bar for walls, ceilings or floors" there is hardware.  The first and last pic are what the plates look like that slide up and down and the second pic is the floor piece.  It is hard to see but at the top of that square piece right above the bearing is the pin.

BTW, I HAVE seen it at my local Dicks so I know they carry it, just not sure if they consider it a seasonal (summer) item.

I believe that Dicks Sporting Goods carries it.  I have never seen it at Walmart.

You can probably call the closest store and see if they have it in stock.  The item number is on this page: http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13305076

Seriously, I rigged my own hammock and used an lag screw and instructions for installing a sex swing.  Basically you need an eye lag screw which is large enough that you could install a porch swing on and you need a joist.  The one I have is probably 1/2" thick and about 4" long.

I dislike brass….it is either too slick or too grippy for me; there is never a middle ground.  Brass seems to like being dirty.  Probably the quickest way to tarnish brass is with ammonia.  I would try that before trying to sand brass.  Brass is a very soft metal and I am not convinced that sanding it would be a good option.

Are you looking for home or studio installment?  I have only been on PD's installed poles, not on their party pole.  I have heard that their stainless has the grip of chrome.  Their brass is very grippy and is well known at strip clubs.  Their spin option is off the hook being the fastest and smoothest on the market that I know of.

Both poles are quality and both companies have great customer support.  As PRD stated if you can try to find a studio near you that has PD's to try out.

Look up instructions for installing a sex swing and follow them.

There is not a single book out there that I know of that is worth anything.  No amount of words can help you and I have found that trying to read something, interpret the pictures and then perform it is extremely difficult.  Hence the reason there are so many instructional videos.
