Oh and I always wear a sports bra to bed to keep them well supported and to help them keep their shape. Especially the first few months after your surgery. Even now 3 years later, I rarely sleep without at sports bra, I baby these puppies!

I am not a gambler or a drinker, so when I go to Vegas, I like to explore local sights, see shows, go to strip clubs and eat at unique eateries special to Vegas. I quite enjoyed red rock hiking and exploring. Ziplining over Fremont Street was fun. Also enjoyed my visit to Hoover Dam. If you choose to see a show definitely check out Absinthe at Caesars. It is like Cirque on crack–aerialists, acrobats and more + raunchy comedy…it's a hoot and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Have FUN!

Michelle Shimmy also questions some elements of competitions in her recent blog & makes some very interesting points

I think folks are really misinterpreting what I am saying here. So let me clarify. I’ll say again that I thought Olga was great (let’s get real, 85% of the tricks she did, I probably will never be able to do for cripes sakes!) but the extreme technical aspects of her routine & how grown up she looked and acted performing her routine disturbed me…I just wanted to see some childhood energy & spirit in her routine is all, her routine felt & looked too grown up. I feel the same about pageants, some dance competitions & about gymnastics, sometimes, it just feels like too much technical & perfection required, that other important elements seem to get lost in translation. That is the only point I was trying to make. I wasn’t trying to pick on Olga & not saying she shouldn’t have won or anything like that because her winning was well deserved & just.
My comparison between her & Aimee was just to exemplify my feelings/opinion of when too much technical & perfection is required/expected, that other important elements get lost in translation. That’s it.
I too love that pole has many levels…some people love the fitness & super technical style poling, some prefer the super sexy style poling. And I love that we have competitions out there that cater to the different styles of pole. But I can’t help but wonder if trying to mainstream pole by repackaging it as a technically heavy sport, may end up hurting us more than help us.

Talk to your Dr first about it because every body & every Drs. opinion as to when its ok to get back to exercise, poling &/or weight lifting is different.
My boobies are under muscle saline & I’ve had them 3 yrs. I was given the ok at 8 weeks. But to be safe, I didn’t attempt any inverts until 10 weeks and I took it slow only doing 2-3 inverts per practice. Around 14 weeks, I was fully back on the pole-climbs, inverts, spins…back to normal. I’ve had no displacement issues or misshaping issues of the implants & I believe it’s because I didn’t rush back into heavy pole training & gave my body time to heal & get accustomed to the new body parts lol

Ok ladies, she’s not saying the kids need to be sexy, so I dont know where that came from. What I feel is technical is fine but the emotion & passion & joy they feel about poling that shows through in their performance is what we are talking about here that feels like its missing.
And oh yes kids can to express emotion effectively & with power even those they havent experienced that emotion yet…kids that act get coached on emotions & are able to convey them on screen believably & ever seen dance moms? they are often coached on emotions that needs to come through in their dance & do it with flying colors. I don’t think you need to have experienced that emotion first hand to convey it. Maddie on dance moms is an example of a child who is a technical dancer but conveys emotion beautifully and you are drawn into her performance because she expresses emotion throughout her entire performance. In addition, when you watch Maddie dance, you can tell she genuinely loves to dance, it comes through in her performance every time.
Even a smile throughout a performance lightens up the feel of a performance. Olga hardly smiled but when she did it looked like it pained her to do so. It was as though she was trained to be perfect technically & nothing else.
Aimee smiled throughout her whole routine and it made you smile. Her little energetic hops, skips & maneuvers also were part of her routines “story”. Aimee’s routine was pretty technical too but at the same time it still was a fitting routine for a child though. Olga was dressed like & pole danced like a 30 year old pole pro, which awed me but also bothered me…I anxiously watched her routine hoping to see some light moments or emotion in her routine at some point that showed us glimpses of her youth, personality & joy in poling.
That’s what we are talking about. It’s fine to be as rigorously technical like Olga was but what I mentioned above is the “more” that I think needs to come through in a performance too.

Safety is very important & if you know a pole is unsafe and/or a ripoff, I think it’s definitely ok to tell someone who is looking for a pole that. Point them in the direction of a few brands that are trusted in our industry & encourage them thoroughly research each one to find the pole that’s right for their needs.

Caterpillar!!! Grr! Been struggling with it on & off for the last year. I put it on back burner for a couple months, then come back to it. This stint, I have been working on it about 2 months…just going to keep at it until I get it this time, even if it takes me a few months to finally get it. Russian layback/Viwa is another one that I have been battling for about 2 weeks. Janeiro has also been causing me some major turmoil this past week as well.

MemberJuly 26, 2013 at 9:56 pm in reply to: How many times a week would you have to do pole to lose weight?Try adding 1 hour of Cardio 2-3x a week. Zumba class is low cost or hula hoop @ home. Weighted Hula you can buy at any sporting goods store for about $20. Also get a cardio workout app on your phone. There are tons of free exercise apps, they’re what I use 🙂 Hope that helps.

Yipee! Hopefully you'll join us on Sunday in the Flexines! 🙂

Btw how the free ones works is first come first serve. So it’s probably best to line up/get there 30-40 mins before workshop start time to get a good spot.

I'm not taking either of those but they sound GREAT! Don't forget about the FREE workshops, there are some great ones. Jamilla is doing a free stretching on Sat and Sun. And Jeni Janover is doing her new workshop five for floor on Sat for free 🙂 check out some of the other ones too.

I peel mine off or sometime use my ped egg on them. Then use corn huskers lotion to moisturize the spot where the callus was. Helps a little but I still have rough spots on my hands despite what I do. Ah, poler problems….

1) Have you lost weight since starting pole dancing
Not through pole dance alone but I know alot of girls have been able to lose significant weight with pole dancing as their only exercise. However, I am one of those girls that has to do multiple forms of exercise in order to lose significant weight. I have to do cardio 2-3x week, weight training, pole and diet/healthy eating constantly in order to lose significant weight. I have lost inches more than weight from doing pole. I have toned up and gained muscle.
2) if so, what did you eat while losing the weight and how many times a week did you pole? I am a low carb dieter have been for over 5 years…I only eat carbs 1x a day(sometimes less depending on my mood) and I eat ALOT of veggies, salads, fruits and drink tons of water & coconut water. I pole 2-3x a week.
3) did you pole just at home, at a studio or both?
I was poling at a studio and doing SV lessons for close to a year but a few months ago I quit going to the studio due to finances and for the last few months, I have been solely learning on my own using SV lessons and other web pole tutorials. I enjoyed the studio lessons and miss it sometimes but I have been progressing well learning on my own with SV lessons and with the support of my friends here on SV and in the pole community 🙂
4) what was included in your lessons and how did you integrate studio veena in your sessions?
When I went to the studio, I enjoyed the group interaction and 1-on-1 help from the teacher but I also had SV lessons while I was going to the studio because it was a great supplement to what I learned in class. Also SV's lessons often taught me things that I DIDN'T learn in class or different ways to get in and out of moves, which I didn't often get in studio classes. In many ways, I found SV lessons more proactive in my progress in pole, than studio lessons.
Last question I have is:
Have any of you had any self esteem issue that pole dancing has cured? Please explain. Would you prefer pole dancing just at home or a studio?I did have self esteem issues–past anorexic and just felt terrible about my body after my 3 rd baby. I had lost all confidence and didn't feel sexy anymore. Pole awakened my sexy, made me feel comfortable in my own skin, it's powerful, addictive and liberating. Pole has made me strong, brave, fearless and proud to be me. I'm special and unique and pole allows me to express who I am and how I feel and that is the most amazing feeling. Pole has changed my life.
Like I said above, I have danced in a studio and learned solely at home. I like both for different reasons, however now as a more advanced poler, I am finding that learning at home and attending workshops occasionally, has been more indicative to my progress 🙂

I don’t know how I missed this thread before. I am planning on getting my pole cert & GFI early next year. The different pro & con pole cert opinions really are eye opening…

Yeah I saw this and fell in love. It gave me all kinds of ideas of places & gyms around me where this would make it a lot easier to solicit them to offer pole classes!

I do Zumba for stamina building & cardio. Strength & conditioning, I have used Veena’s lessons for that & love them but I also use a lot of phone apps for my strength building & conditioning & other exercises. I alternate what I work on each week. I also have a pull up bar, resistance bands, exercise ball, hula hoop & 2 & 5 pound weights that I use as well. Finding the time to fit it all in is the challenge but in the am &/or before bed seems to work best even if you can only manage 10-15 minutes a few times a week, working out something is better than nothing 🙂

I am so glad that I got the xpert instead of the sport. Even though I don’t practice on spin mode that often, it’s great knowing when I am ready to get serious about learning on spin mode that I have the option.
IMO it’s worth it to get the xpert just to have the option of going from static to spin if you choose to later down the line.
