i took part in a pole calendar recently. Some photos were fab, others not so coz it was my first photoshoot and i hadnt really worked out what i wanted to do. In terms of outfits and moves you dont want to wear anything thats gonna flash your bits (unless u want to) or unsuitable underwear (i had an issue with my boobs falling out my bra in a scorpio shot!!!! ) Also practice holding poses and moves for as long as you can,the photographer may mess around or take his time getting a pic and by that time youve slid off the pole or moved the wrong way…practice in front of a mirror and get a friend to take practice shots to see what works/looks flattering. Theres lots of cool stuff you can do,but as i discovered not every move looks flattering in certain angles ect. Another thing i forgot was my FACE, i was too busy concentrating on a move id forget to smile/pout ect so thats important too. Point your toes in each shot, such the stomach in and stretch out your limbs as much as you can for the best good looking body shot. Oh yeh and get lots of grip aids…hot camera lights cause you to sweat and slide all over the place! not good,i didnt realise how hot camera lights and equipment are. Hope this helps, good luck im sure you will look great xx https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

hi i was just about to start a new topic on blisters before i saw this one. My friend gets really bad blisters from the pole on her fingertips (i just get little bits of hard skin sometimes) I told her it was prob becuase her hands were sweaty and that combined with a warm pole and repeated pole spins can maybe cause it. But i was wondering how you would prevent blisters in the first place? I dont wanna get them myself although i generally have cold dry hands all the time anyways. Would just drying your hands all the time and using grip aids work? My friend is still a beginner and so still learning spins so i thought grip aid might hinder her spins slightly. Anyone got any ideas on how to prevent em? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Don’t worry veena I won’t go starving myself,I don’t think I could if I wanted to anyways! Lol yeh I know a balanced diet is very important as is plenty of the right excerise and I do try to do that as much as I can (I do have my off days were I eat junk but who doesn’t). Yeh ill need 2 get back to the gym and make time for cardioit will prob make a big difference.and if not then ill just have to accept that’s the way things are. I’m not giving up the pole for anything! No way on the plus side I can do cool tricks,I’m strong and more toned than iv ever been so mayb I shud just be proud of that

Thanks everyone, yeh I think my bodytype is close to a mesomorph. I’m tall and hourglass shaped but I can gain fat easy. I’m almost always on perminant diet so I don’t think I could cut back any more than I already do,unless I stopped eating all together! Yeh I prob need 2 do more cardio but most of my spare time is taken up with the pole just now. I take it things like going on the treadmill might help??? I haven’t a clue about cardio to be honest lol. Just hope I don’t get any more muscular in the arms! Or ill end up looking like a man!

i used to go to caley, did social sciences! yeh i find watching the vids that everyone posts on here v v helpful. Its great to see how different ppl do different moves. Theres always something new on here that i see and want to try out,i have to say that this is a really good pole website (and iv been on hundreds!) veena explains things very well. If your gonna buy a dvd i find KT coates Vertical dance the best (beginners- intermediate) if you r just a newbie…as i said before im not the best person to sit down and teach myself from a dvd but this was by far the best for me,i did learn a lot from it and highly recomend it,you can get it on amazon x https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Hi! Were abouts in scotland r u from? I live in glasgow I think ur the first person iv seen on here from scotland other than me lol. Well done for getting a pole seat so quickly, that can be quite hard and painful 2 get. Yeh u mite benefit from one or two private pole lessons if u find ur stuck. Learning from a dvd can b good but its not for everyone,I find learning from dvds quite difficult at times xx

Hi angygirl, the sweating problem sounds a pain,I know a few ppl with the same problem as you. Weights may certainly help, but when I was going to classes our instructor had us doing old fashioned pushups, crunches and squats to bulid up the strength. It certainly helped me strengthen my core and shoulder muscles more (before that id struggled to hold aninverted v/chopper move and couldn’t climb the pole very high without my arms burning!. Our class was only once per week she would email us our rep homework! Lol that instructor took no prisoners but she certainly got me strong in a short space of time. She also had this pine sap stuff that we sometimes used for grip aid in the more advanced tricks. Think she said she brought it back from the usa,I’m not sure if u know what I mean? It was liquid and smelled stronghly of pine, wed pour some on a towel and then rub the towel on our hands, the stuff was super sticky and was prob the best grip aid iv tryed.

Hi I understand how hard it can be if you are used to grip aids and suddenly you have to go with out. But I really find its best to learn the basics first without any grip aids at all!. I first learned pole dancing 5 years ago and we had to master the pole without half the range of grip aids you get these days. Yes they can be a god send when u want better grip for inverted moves but you really should try and get the moves first without the aids before hand. As the name suggets its an aid…not a necessity,if you start poling from day one using grip aids you won’t bulid up the proper strength and natural grip you need so that if you have to go without its a shock to the body! I know this prob sounds a bit harsh but honestlyid advise practicing the basic spins and inverts without aids to get your skin and hands used to the burn and grip that comes naturally..then take it from there see how you go?
You will prob be amazed at what you can do without the aids! X

Totally agree with goldfrapp strict machine is a great one to dance to. I like lots of different kinds of music to pole to. Rock can be really sexy and dirty to pole to,rnb usually has good beats and i like a bit of electro like goldfrapp as well. Some good songs i like to pole to include
    muse- supermassive black hole
    NERD- lapdance
    Rihanna- pon de replay
    AC/DC- rock n roll train
    Aerosmith- love in an elevator/pink/ragdoll
Def leppard- pour some sugar on me
    50 cent – candyshop
    prince – cream
Evenesance -wake/call me when your sober
    linkin park – new divide
    velvet revolver- slither/gavedancer

i could go on forever, anything by pussycat dolls and britney usually works with pole routines as well, but its personal preference at the end of the day i really like rock songs personally.

im getting closer to getting this damn move lol iv discovered the hand placement that im most comfortable with (one that i thought id made up and was totally cheating) is called the twisted chinese grip, which i see is on the wikipole site! it looks weird and wrong but amazingly its one i kinda fell into doing on my own but was reluctant to continue trying it as i thought if i was doing one id made up id break a wrist or something. I find if i lean way back and give a good kick up with the outside leg im almost getting there! …my toes touched the pole last night!..whooo big difference from not being able to get my feet off the floor! Tryed the respect grip and princess grip and still got no were https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif i think its because in those grips one hand is still in a cupped thumbs down position which i still cant work with. So lets hope i get it with the chinese grip!…haa its only taken me a year!! never in my life have i taken so long to get one pole move! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

this is EXACTLY the problem i have when inverting. Im right handed but have learned to invert using my left arm as the dominant arm….it just felt more comfortable to me. But when i want to get into a butterfly from an inverted cruxifix position i have to switch arms as my left arm isnt in the right position it feels all twisted up the wrong way. Its not the best but still works. I thought it was just me that had this problem! same with caterpillar iv tryed doing it were my left arm (the dominant 0ne) is waist height and the right (weak arm) is on the bottom. Its hard but i can just about do it. It occured to me to to try and switch arms so the left is on the bottom and right at the top but it feels wrong!! lol dont know why as it would prob make more sense doing it that way! just seems im making things harder for myself by inverting with my left arm! The other day i tryed inverting with the right arm and discovered i could do it but getting into an inverted cruixfix was very very hard! i wonder if i concentrate getting my right side stronger i will find caterpillar/butterfly and others much more easy? …also i get confused when i try and do a butterfly from a gemini (left side invert right outer leg hooked around pole) i try and get round the other side of the pole and have almost fell off a few times becuase i was so off balance

Im gonna go and practice with these grips now see if i get anywere! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

haaaa love it!!! seroiusly iv been jumping on stuff thats roughly pole like since i first got the "POLE BUG" years ago when i first started! lol..lamposts,trees,kiddies play grounds, sign posts ect havent been safe when im out and im a bit drunk! (p.s im fom scotland so we’ll pretty much do any thing crazy with a few drinks down us) once mounted a lamppost in a busy main street..unfortunatley it had a jagged like dried paint on it so it "ripped" the skin on my inner thighs! ….bad times, still i carried on after that and still had a great night out. Second worst make shift pole experience was in jamacia. I tryed to climb a skinny looking palm tree in the middle of the resort we were staying at..EASY i thought..until i stood on the stuff surrounding the lovely palm..sharp,odd shapped bush like plants…ripped my inner toe on my right foot wide open..again great times lol…ahh the things you do when drunk! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif i must get some make shift pole pics on here from scotland! watch this space https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
