I had to take a break my first two or three months pregnant because of how sick I got so while I haven't had my baby yet I have a few recommendations. Commit to doing a certain number of different moves on certain days of the week (like x amount of pole holds or front hooks) and let yourself be super pleased with being sore the next day. You'll gradually work up if you keep a positive outlook 🙂 I also lost my splits during that time and wrote a blog post about how I got them back: http://www.flexines.net/2013/06/i-lost-flexibility-now-what.html
The stretch marks will fade some, I don't think there is much you can do to eliminatet them completely short of buying uber expensive creams that are not safe for breastfeeding moms or having plastic surgery. You've got mama tiger stripes <3 I believe ab work will help with tightening your skin too, so slowly getting back into pole should take care of that. HTH!

That's so true, it is a lot easier to be open here. One day I want to go to some pole conventions and meet some Veeners too. Before being on Veena I don't think I would ever have been comfortable video chatting either (I normally feel so weird hearing my own voice even on the answering machine!).

I haven't run into this yet (probably will soon!) but there's a really helpful thread here on it: https://www.studioveena.com/forums/view/3813 HTH 😀

I just set mine up: adastraflexine. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif Feel free to add me, I finally sucked it up and downloaded it 😀 (I use so many computers that I'm usually resistant to required software)

Absolutely! I have had the horrible thought of selling my pole but then I'll see a positive comment from KiKi or any Veener and it stops me from following that line of thought. It definitely seems like some people's bodies are just made to do well with pole. If I can keep on trucking and nail me some moves that will have to be good enough.
I second Chem, add something you can feel more accomplished with. One thing that helps me a lot is working on flexy since I progress better with that than strength (or even coordination lol!). This thread is helpful too–I've been working at pole since September and I've been working at getting my first tricks back (crucifix, pole sit, basic spins). Here I am all "I've got my crucifix back" and others can do that at day one. If not for SV I would think it's hopeless and I better quit!

Extended Allegra! It's the move that made me fall in love with pole. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

I did a review on mine with pictures and measurements: http://flexines.blogspot.com/2013/07/review-extra-long-legwarmers-by-mondor.html Last time I checked they still have them on Capezio Dance Shop but they are also available on Amazon and sometimes eBay (yep, I stalk leg warmers in case I get extra money lol). The one's Chem posted are on my wishlist especially if I can find them without stirrups. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Olga was amazing, as I said. And goodness, no, I wasn't suggesting a ten year old should be representing pole by dancing sexy. I actually think kids can do a lot more than we're giving them credit for. For example Veena has the most adorable video of her kids dancing and doing some pole tricks that makes me smile every time. You get a sense of warmth by watching their enjoyment, which is how I felt about Aimee's performance. I do love all forms of pole, including sporty, which can have a lot of expression without being more of the "Pole Art" style (as Oona proves in her sportier performances). Actually the reason I have come to love all these styles is from watching the videos everyone uploads here on StudioVeena.
To me the issue is not whether these girls are talented or skilled–they certainly both are! It's that dance/athletics like pole and figure skating are becoming so focused on quantitative scoring systems that it leaves little room for expression. That's just my opinion, which is apt to change like anyone's, and I certainly don't expect everyone to agree (how boring would that be!). Clearly the judges don't, lol.

You will weigh more since muscle weighs more than fat. I second Katana, focus on small changes that you can keep yourself going with–eliminating pop/soda is a good one. The most important thing is keeping up with your healthy habits, the results will follow. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

One of my online pole friends can do moves after watching a video with them once! For me it takes watching someone do it over and over just to understand what I have to do. Once I'm at the pole doing it I get some weird pole amnesia and fail epicly, lol. Km maybe our brains are geared differently like more book smart or something? 😛

Bump! maybe AG or sexyrockstarswife would know? (They're in OR)

Ladies, from the pictures and video I've seen of you on SV that girl has nothing on you. I saw it and thought of the dance girls whose families spend crazy amounts of money and time on teaching them to dance in a specific, limited way. Yes, she is very skilled, but I did not get the impression she was expressing herself. To me that's what really makes pole beautiful, self expression. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif

lol! My blerch is my final History paper–can't stand the instructor so here I am all productive on SV, haha! My self-bribe: I get to run when I finish my paper https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I'm going to second SharkyHill and say go with the less is more approach. You don't want thick, clunky running shoes, no matter what the adverts say.
I am totally addicted to running–it keeps me sane. Actually the one thing I've really craved during this pregnancy is running. Thank goodness I'm finally well enough (got a mile run in on Tuesday for the first time in 2 months) or I would be ready to be committed. 😀

I would say focus on teaching your friend how to do a proper warmup for all joints and the basics. Maybe spins like front hook or fireman and how to start climbing? Those took me months so depending on your friend's strength you could either talk about working up to those or do a couple. HTH!

I like my Xpert, sometimes if I'm feeling frustrated by my lack of strength and spinning momentum I switch to spinny just to let loose and have fun 😀

Awesome! A friend of mine has been looking into getting a lyra for some time, I'll pass this on to her 😀

Oh! and don't worry about being brand new or not; I lost pretty much all my neat pole moves (the few I had!) after being sick for months and now I can't invert (turns out I'm pregnant!). I still try to get some virtual pole jams on (I coordinate some, check my profile) and I am planning to pole a video on here too at some point. You'll find that polers, especially Veeners, are SUPER supportive and quite honestly want to see you improve so don't worry 😀 There are also great lessons here that could help you advance faster.

A few things that could make a difference are if your pole is brand new or used, what material/finish it is, the temperature of the room, and the size (diameter) of your pole. If you have a new pole you may want to use steam from a steam cleaner or iron to get the packaging residue off. If it is a different finish from the pole you use in class you may just need to adjust to the difference or buy a grip aid (SV has some great discussions on that, the search feature is awesome). If your room is substantially cooler or warmer you may again need to adjust to it. Finally, a bigger or smaller pole (diameter) will have different grip for your hands and elbow/knee pits. In general, a smaller pole is easier to grip for smaller hands but harder to grip with legs and a larger pole is easier to grip for larger hands and easier for legs.
HTH & Welcome!

Kim are you still poling? I'm sorry you don't have space for your poles 🙁
