gin or vodka doesn't matter, you can use any other sort of more or less sugarfree clear schnaps. 🙂
many like to use window cleaner or, like lovebug said, nail polish remover with acetone – personally, i would refrain from using them, because they can harm you (allergic reactions etc) if you've got sensitive skin.

Don't worry, the pain (and also bruises) is normal. It will go away as you do this move more often, and will come back if you stop doing it for a couple of weeks. As you improve with poling and go on doing more advanced stuff, you'll get more bruises on parts of your thighs that hurt even more – but it's worth it!

I've never used acetone, but I'd just go with plain vodka. Cleans the pole very well, and can't do any harm to it.

I agree with Kiki, putting some carpet AROUND would be easier and perhaps even better.
I suggest you buy a big piece of carpet or even some kind of plastic mat at the DIY-store, and cut it in from one side to the center to be able to place it around the pole when it's already standing. You can fix it at the sides on the floor with good double sided tape, so it won't slip easily – although I don't think it would be a problem if it even did slip at little bit.
You should be able to choose from several kinds of carpet at the store, make sure you chose something that won't tear the skin of your knees when practising floorwork 😉

THANK YOU, VEENA! I https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_heart1.gif you! This tutorial is great, I'm SO going to try this!!

@polkadot: well, you've tried everything else … but there's one thing you haven't! Go to Google, type in "free youtube to mp3", and download the programme (DVD Video Soft is quite a good one I heard). -> With it you can download any song from youtube that you can't buy anywhere! For free! I, too, have used it for some songs I am not able to buy in Europe. I don't want to do any advertising here, for it's free anyway, and yes, it's kind of illegal I guess. But sometimes it's the last chance, and it works https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I think there is only the 50mm version. But I've heard many good things about rpoles, which are not attached to the ceiling as well. Take a look at their website, perhaps you like 38mm even better 🙂

also, i like it that when i cut a video for uploading, i look at it more closely than when just watching it without doing anything to it. i am even less tolerant with what looks good then https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_viking.gif

How about a song that sums up the (feeling of the) last year, or what you wish for the new one?

Hi Veena!
I can not see any challenge videos from October or November on the "monthly challenge" reel, except for yours. Is this a problem my internet/computer has, or have you not filed them there yet? -
yeah … https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_scratch.gif I thought about that only after I had already posted it. But I guess you can find almost anything today on youtube (and re-released on CD https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I have another idea (for another challenge):
Dance to your favourite song – when you were 12!
This would be a real challenge for me. First to find those old CDs, and then to actually dance to … well, what was it? This one I guess https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cyclops_ani.gif

I like the idea of dancing to the same song! But I would not choose "American Woman" for everybody. Okay, the song is nice, but hey – how can I identify with it when I’m from Europe? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

what about a comics or superhero challenge? it could be either, dress like your favourite comics character/superhero, or dance to the theme (if there’s a movie or series). i think the results could be anything, from ghostbusters and scooby doo to wonderwoman! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_smurfin.gif
