The best shoulders and upper body stretches in my opinion, are the ones where you put your hand against the pole or the wall, at shoulder height, and drop your torso to towards the floor. I hope that makes sense! I have really tight upper back and shoulders so this one particular stretch helps me out! I too struggle with flexibility but I did the 30 day flexy program and have noticed changes! I am continuing to do the flexibility routines 2-3 days a week (just started that this week) so hopefully I will see results with those!

Yay!!! Looks like fun too!! I wish I could pole outside – it’s way too humid here though!

I’m sorry you are having a bad time these days! I poled for years and then took off a year. I would recommend the 30 day program. I am almost done with it and I have already made strides in my strength and flexiness and my own body image issues! I feel so much better already – even though I know it will take a long time to get back where I left off. Take it day by day!

I started poling in 2010 but stopped learning new things in late 2013. 2014 I spent my time teaching pole but not working on my own progress. So far in 2015 I have not poled!! But today was day 24 out of 30 for me!! I’m happy to be back at it! And I’m happy for you too!

I think I could fit it all in if it’s just pole. But I also want to incorporate flexy training and hula hoop. I think that’s my issue lol!

I’m following this discussion. I am almost thought the 30 day refresher and I want a consistent pole schedule. My problem seems to be that when I write it all down, it seems like so much! I only have so much time in a day lol! I can’t seem to fit in everything I want to do.

I don’t know if this helps but I have a Lyra in my house. I used a steel metal plate from aerial essentials. It is installed in my living room ceiling through the stud. I had to rip out dry wall to get to it but my hubby patched it right up!

I got mine at aerial animals. They make ropes too. I love my double tab, but it is a personal preference. Just make sure to get the proper size for your body!

I don’t have that issue but would this help?

I used to struggle with shoulder range of motion and by doing a similar process for my shoulders, I have noticed improvement.

  • I have done P90x and p90x3 several times. Every time I had to stop learning new tricks and practicing apparatus stuff in order to finish the p90x programs. It’s just too much on the body, in my opinion. My flexibility gets worse too with such rigorous workouts I prefer to use the pole, Lyra or silks for conditioning. It’s much more fun than any of the p90x programs anyways! And I find that flexibility comes easier just sticking to working out with the pole, Lyra or silks. The only thing I do outside of that stuff is hula hoop, cardio based dance type classes and yoga. I hope this helps you! You can get really strong doing p90x but your pole work might take a back seat for those 3 months!

I’m right there with ya! I poled consistently from 2010-2013. Then I dabbled in Lyra and silks. I quit smoking in 2014 and gained about 15 pounds. These pounds are really stubborn!!! Anyways, I’m starting to pole again and hula hooping – so I hope just dancing around (the part I missed so bad when I didn’t pole anymore) – will get my confidence back up!

I’m like you polecat! It’s super easy for my body to build muscle….however my metabolism is super sluggish and it takes me forever to just burn off 1 pound of fat! But I love my muscles and wouldn’t trade them for anything 🙂

I would suggest the 30 day program veena has – I’m currently doing it since I’ve taken about a year off of pole. I’m also 15 pounds heavier since I quit smoking over a year ago….I just make sure to eat clean and fit atleast 30 minutes cardio everyday. That could be going for a fast paced walk or I dance (just filler moves and transitions) through 5-6 songs in a row!! I’m a bit older so I know it will take more time and energy – but I’m up for the challenge!!

I have a double tab but I’ve never tied the spanset to make it a single. I know people have done it and they just have to be cautious of the extra tab. I love the double…it just feels more fun to me lol!

My swivel and all of my hardware came from aerialessentials.com. Also, I would consult an engineer. Basically, you need someone qualified to tell you how to set it up so that it can support the load.

If you want to attach a span set to a no lab lyra – you just tuck the spanset under the hoop, take one end of the span set and loop it through the other loop of the span set. Tighten and attach to your caribeeners and then to your mount point. The only thing to be aware of with a no lab lyra – understand that the lyra can “get away from you” in certain maneuvers. Just be cautious that this can happen. My studio has a couple rigged that way and when we do certain moves, we don’t use those to practice bc it’s not safe.

I have the both hoops manuals and I love them!! If you haven’t taken a class – I would recommend taking one – that is the best way to learn. However, there are tons of videos on aerialdancing that are useful but she doesn’t break the moves down like Veena does so use with caution!

I am 5 feet. But you will need to sit down against a wall. Measure from your butt to your head, then add about 2 inches – that would be your ideal size. When I did this, it was 30 inches. So I got a 33 inch hoop.

I just bought a new lyra from aerialanimals.com. I really liked them – they did an awesome job! Also – you need to figure out what size you’ll need. I’m really short, and the standard is 36 inches – which doesn’t work for me. Decide on 0,1, or 2 tabs. Then decide how/where you will rig it. That will depend on what kind of equipment you will need to hang it.

I too want to do this. I really like beachbody workouts but it seems when I take the time to do them, I don’t pole or do lyra as much as is like bc it’s overkill for my muscles. I just recently finished another round of P90X and I have missed dancing :-(. I’m trying something new though right now and i hope it works out! I am using veena’s lessons as part of it :-). I’ll put updates on this thread.
