I was only 18 when I met my hubby. I had a 4 month old daughter and I had not left the house since she was born. My sister (who was 22 years old) was going to a party with a bunch of her old high school friends. She literally dragged me to this party. It was held at a bar/dance hall and I was underage. I looked very young and I was so nervous I was going to get carded but I never did. (Mind you, I have been carded everywhere until I reached 38.) Everyone was dancing and then song came on that I loved and I asked who wanted to dance. My hubby actually jumped over the table and said he wanted to dance. I figured anyone who would jump over a table to dance with me must be pretty cool!
It wasn't until we were married for about 6 years that we found out that that original day we met, was suppose to be a set-up with me and a different guy. Everyone at that bar except me, my hubby and that different guy, knew that it was going to be a set up. When I asked "who wanted to dance", everyone was excited because it was this other guy's chance to 'make his move'. When my hubby jumped over the table, everyone was like, 'Oh crap, he is spoiling everything'!
We will be celebrating our 28th anniversary in just a couple of days – all because of a jump over a table!

that was cool! I can't even dream about doing that!

Thanks AerialGypsy!

okay, maybe a stupid question, but what is DOMS?
-
I checked Alethea's web site but I didn't see any let warmers. Is there a different place to look?
-
Yes, that does help. Thank you so much!
-
(Regarding Aletheas DVDs) – Are the ballistic stretches the ones where you kick your leg as high up in the air as you can? When I have done that move of hers, I have hurt my back so bad that I have to be off pole (and all other forms of excercise) for about 2 weeks. (I've done that 3 different times – I won't do those moves anymore!) If those are not the ballistic stretches, can you tell me which ones are? I don't want to do anything more that would be bad!

adAstra, I do NOT recommend the NoNo! Google it and you will see the reviews are really bad. I've known quite a few people who have tried it and absolutely NO ONE said it was decent!
My hair grows so fast that I can shave in the morning and by 2:00 in the afternoon I have major stubble. Thankfully, my hair is light so it doesn't show too bad.
I tried an epilator on my face and it worked fantastic but I got a horrid rash afterward that lasted 2 1/2 weeks. I am afraid to try it on my legs because I don't want another rash! My skin is very sensitive to things like that so I am sure it was just me.
I wish I could do IPL or laser but I have red hair and none of those things work on red hair – POOP!
I am now thinking of trying wax but I think I will have a professional do it.
LizziePole, I have heard that Emjoi epilator is really good. That is the one I was going to get if the one for my face one had worked out.

It looks good, but personally, I didn't know what some of the terminolgy was so I wouldn't be able to do some of the exercises you listed because I don't know what some of them are!

You will LOVE it Trixie! She was so sweet and nice! I learned so much. I already had her stretching DVDs and I bought her two new ones and she autographed all four DVDs for me. I am so glad I was able to attend. Now if I could only meet Veena, my pole journey would be complete!

I would like to try this as well. I am stiff as a board! I am probably the most INflexible person in the world! However, I am unable to take and post pictures. I understand if I can't work with you because of that, but if you still want a buddy, I would be available.

Thanks for everyone's ideas. I will see what I can try. Because I have both MS and Lupus, I am always in pain too, but this is different – I know it comes from pole. I do pole regularly – 3-4 times a week. When at home, I do stretch after every pole session but when I go to class they don't stretch afterwards or do any cooldowns and they really overwork you. When I pole at home, I'm not near as sore as what I am after class but I am still quite sore and I am really tired of it!!!
I have diabetes too, and my body really reacts to carbs and I have real problems wth them so I have to extremely limit my carbs and I can't take vitamins because I get violently sick. I know I have to get better at eating a more balanced diet. I am not horrible with what I eat, but I know I can do a WHOLE lot better. I have been very good at drinking enough water so at least I'm good with that!
I will see what I can try to make things better. Again, thanks everyone! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

calipolepixie, I have not heard of an infrared ultrasonic massager. Where did you get it? Thanks for the other suggestions, I'll try it!
-
Thanks JeHanne. I generally am not one to journal, but I will try it. Like I said, I am just so tired of being sore and having difficulty getting up from a chair or picking up my granddaughter because my muscles hurt.

AMEN! suncarrie. What a beautiful way to look at it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif.

You will LOVE Veena's lessons. She is so thorough in her directions. I really hope you can get to the splits. I am so far away from getting the splits and I figure it is because of my health problems but you have inspired me! I admire you for trying to do it even with the problems you have. I am sorry you had to go through that – especially at such a young age. I wish you the best of luck!

I am in my mid- 40s and although I havent had a broken hip, I do have some serious hip and joint problems. I am also one who doesn't listen to my body and I go far beyond what I should. I am working on getting my splits (still far from it though) and I have learned I need to be very careful. I make sure I am totally warmed up first. I stretch myself to the point of soreness – NOT PAIN!!! The next day I am sore but not terribly so. If I am having trouble walking, I know I overdid it.
You should absolutely not feel pain after you stretch. Do you get Veena's lessons? She has a fantastic splits stretch and you will learn a lot from her. She really explains things and lets you know how best to stretch. Good luck!

Rose1983, I have read that you should NOT ice the area first. You should take a warm bath or shower first and then use the epilator. warming the skin opens the pores and icing the skin closes the skin up so it is harder to pull the hair out.
Please note that I personally have not used an epilator but I am seriously considering it and I have read everything about the best/worst way to use one.

TansyRae, what a good idea about the closed captions! I never even thought about that. I will try it later on to see if it works. Thanks!

I bought both her stretching videos but I have only watched the 'Pure Splits' one. Although it was extremely well done, I have only watched it twice because the music – literally – gave me a headache (no offense to anyone who likes that kind of music, it just is not my "cup of tea"). I would love to get her new ones, but I don't want to spend all that money and find out that I can't stand the music on those either.
-
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what are pole shoes?
-
Isn't it funny how people are different? I tried sugaring a handful of times and I don't think even one hair came out! I know it was done properly too – it just didn't work for me! I think I am going to try the emjoi. Hopefully, I will be one of the ones that it works for!

MalciousMynx – what brand to you have for your epilator?
