I don’t think there’s a set order to learn grips in the aysha https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I got the split grip aysha months ago and I’m just about to get the elbow grip, I just found it so much harder. And there’s absolutely no hope that I’ll get the forearm grip anytime soon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif
If you already got the split grip butterfly I’d work from that. Try the extended butterfly first just to get used to the position, and then move on to the split grip aysha. By the time you can do the extended butterfly you’re ready for the aysha, you just need to find your balance https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I ordered my gloves a couple days ago, they should be here soon https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I’m getting the black non-tack ones, wonder if they’re the right size… Do let us know how they work for you!
I’ve used the Mighty Grip powder before and it didn’t really work for me. Apparently it’s good for dancers with dry hands who just want some extra stickiness. Maybe you could put it under the gloves and on your fingertips https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
I haven’t tried the PS free standing pole yet but I wouldn’t recommend the X-stage. We teach on 3 X-stages and there are so many problems with them it’s insane. The whole thing is incredibly heavy so if you need to carry your pole around the X-stage will be a PITA, you can’t lift the base alone. All our carry cases fell apart after only weeks of use. The old screw joint version poles keep getting stuck literally all the time so we got a new X-joint one. First the X-joint just went awry and we had to hammer the whole pole in place everytime we put the two parts together. Now the pole has been stuck for 2 weeks and we can’t take it apart. The plates of the new version are impossible to get into place so we have to kick and jump on them to get them to fit.
Bottom line is, the X-pole is not very user-friendly. It’s also taller than the PS pole so you can’t use it with lower ceilings. Perhaps you could look into the R-pole, its base is even shorter than the PS’s and it seems very easy to put up.

Thanks for the info https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
And lol, we use X-stages in class and one practically disintegrated when I did the aggressive back hook, two plates snapped off and the pole got unscrewed https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif So much for safety. -

Please help 🙂Ahh how could I forget this, I used to love Safri Duo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I knew this song as Played-A-Live though. I partied hard to it in primary school aged 12 https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Aww I love these poles https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I weirdly find clear plastic gorgeous looking and I guess it has better grip than stainless right?
The aggressive back hook is my favourite spin so these poles might not be for me after all… https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

I’m guessing you mean the inverted crucifix? Where you go into a basic invert and let go with your hands?
Anyways, try getting into the regular crucifix first. Experiment with leg placement and thigh grip so you can rely on it when you’re upside down.
When you go into a basic invert, your hands will obviously be in between your thighs so you won’t be able to squeeze all along your leg yet. So when you’re in the invert position, first take your bottom arm off the pole, reach down and grip the pole below you and tighten your thigh grip a bit right after you take your arm off. Your top arm is still there in between your legs, now take that one off too and squeeze harder with your thighs. Turn your waist around so you’re facing the pole and grip it with both hands now. There you go, inverted crucifix https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif This way you’re basically gripping the pole with both hands and legs at all times and you’re gradually tightening your thigh grip.Sorry about your fall, hope you didn’t injure yourself. If your legs are gripping correctly you won’t fall anymore, just make sure you don’t rush the move. Before you do it, play it out in your mind step by step!

I totally agree with the others, no one notices/gives a damn about the dots on your legs https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif No one gets that close to your skin to thoroughly observe your shaving and hair growth habits lol.
I have the same problem, shaving gives me smooth legs for 5 hours and waxing/epilating gives me red dots. What you could do is use fake tan or a tanning body lotion, it will make your black dots less noticeable and give you a nice tan https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
If you wax or epilate, wipe your legs with an astringent afterwards to prevent inflammation of the hair follicles. Any drugstore product containing alcohol will do. I make my own astringent – I put water in an empty facial toner bottle, put some alcohol in it, dissolve 5-6 aspirin tablets in a few drops of water and put that in it too. Aspirin is a very strong anti-inflammatory and works wonders on irritated skin. This stuff really prevents the red dots on me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I hope your flight goes alright! My flight from Hungary to the UK was cancelled when the volcano first erupted and I got stuck for 10 days and missed an exam at uni https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
A couple days after the eruption some airlines made test flights and the ash didn’t damage the planes. I’m sure they won’t let anyone fly if there’s a realistic danger. So don’t do anything nasty to your shirt/chest https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I used Wellaflex and Tresemme Freeze Hold. Sakura didn’t it rub off on the pole? I might give it another go tomorrow, especially that liquid chalk is burning the hell out of the wounds on my hands lol.

It has to be Oh by Ciara. Everytime I hear that song I properly start to hallucinate pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’ve tried hairspray and it didn’t really work for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif It just balled up on my palms when I was spinning and rubbed off on the pole and made it totally disgusting. I’m still experimenting with liquid chalk and gloves…

Not sure what you mean by acrylic pole, but we have plastic poles at one of the clubs I teach at. You can see some pics on my profile (https://www.studioveena.com/upload_media.php?show=photos" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).
That pole with the air bubbles is awesome! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Where did you get it from?
I’m thinking of having a pole made for myself and acrylic looks so tempting… -
I didn’t pole for 6 weeks and when I got back on the pole I was better than before – so don’t worry! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
As the others said do plank holds, press ups, sit ups, leg raises and all to keep your muscles working. And definitely do some stretching into side and centre splits like every other day. I found that when I was pole-less I focused on stretching a lot more and I got really felxible https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif -
I was struggling with balance issues too with the split grip aysha! Then I realised what was wrong – my body was twisting to the side. You have to fully face the pole and for that you need to twist your body back a bit, as it slighty turns towards the side of your top arm when you’re in the position.
I look at it as the carousel spin inverted in the air https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif You bend your torso towards your bottom arm so you can keep your balance. That’s what you have to do in the air, tuck your elbow into your ribs and twist your waist towards the bottom arm. Hope this makes sense https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Yeah York is incredibly pretty (a bit small though https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ). I’ve been poling for 1,5 years, the uni has a pole club so I can share the obsession https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif What are you studying at Birmingham?

Wow thanks for the mini-essay! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif I hope I’ll get it soon, it’s frustrating the hell out of me atm. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hey, welcome to SV! Lovely to see another UKer here, I go to York uni https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
-
That’s brilliant, I’m really happy for you! I love the extended butterfly, such a pretty move. Post pics soon! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I frankly don’t see a problem with your CKR and CAR, they’re really pretty! I like them better when people aren’t very close to the pole – holding yourself away means you have the muscles to do it! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
If you want to get closer to the pole, you need to grip it lower on your thighs, so the pole will almost be against your kneecap. That allows you to lean down more.

I totally agree with you, it’s so nice to be here on SV. Mostly because everyone shares the obsession here and the atmosphere is really supportive. You can’t really find a real-life community where some people aren’t competitive, judgmental and hostile towards you and what you do. I really enjoy coming here and not having to be worried about what rude answer I’d get to my posts or how someone would try to bring me down.
You’re right, women can be so nasty when thrown together in the same environment. I haven’t even left uni but everyone’s already secretly rooting for the others not to succeed while being super nice to each other. Obviously there are a few exceptions but self-preservation just takes over in everyone sooner or later.
The rudeness and ignorance pole gets just stresses me out so much. It actually drains you to have to refute every silly argument and prove that what you do is just as valuable as playing rugby.
The discrimination I’ve received since I started to pole is very educating in a way. I’ve come to judge people partially on their tolerance and acceptance of what’s different (or out of their comfort zone). Sadly, many people I’m close with exhibit that ignorant behaviour we so hate, but it’s an important aspect of one’s personality and it’s good to be clear with. In turn, I’ve become a lot more tolerant with what others do too (not that I wasn’t before, born liberal here https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif), but you just learn to stop and give that second thought before you make a snotty remark on something unusual or irritating. It’s really nice to see such a supportive community, that’s all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

I’m about start learning the jade (finally got the splits woohoo https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ) but I don’t really know where to start. Where are the main ponts of contact? And how do you get into it? Do I need to have my waist bare or can I do it in a top? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
