I think this move requires more lower ab strength so maybe you could work on strengthening those muscles. Lower abs are on the top of my "Muscles to work on" list. They’re used so much in poling (inverting, shoulder mounting and such).

I’m working on this same spin as well and I’m going to try focusing on my abs next time I try it.

I agree, we have such a long way to go to erase the stigma of poling but people like you Untamed are starting it off. I wish I could get the chance to be featured in something like this article so I could defend my hobby freely and openly.

Good for you! Well done! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

    Hello everyone,

Not sure if anyone has noticed but havent been on much lately due to having a downer. (Im a depressive), so havent felt like doing a whole lot the last couple of weeks. But am over the worst of it again, and have decided to go back to the gym as ive heard excercise is good at keeping it at bay, so i’ll see how that goes XD First weigh in next saturday so fingers crossed ill be startign to get some weight off soon which will not only make me happier but also help with my lack of progression poling (week 8 of trying and still no gemeni :S)

Hope everyone is ok and will try and get on the chat on friday and say hi to everyone. Big love and hugs, me x

    Hi there!

I was diagnosed with depression a few years ago. My husband (who is in the Army) was deployed in Afghanistan and I was left to care for 3 kids, work full time and attend school full time. I was always worried about my hubby and then our house got broken into twice in one week! I figured some punks were toying with me because they knew my husband was gone. So anyway, I started having anxiety attacks and a bit of agrophobia (the fear of leaving home) so I started seeing a therapist and of course….I got some meds.

Around that time I started running. I am a bad pill taker and would miss my does sometimes and then I started to realize that I could go a day without it and feel okay as long as i was running, then i could go 2 days, then a whole week…then before I knew it I was off of the medication and had replaced it with physical activity. It’s a proven fact that large muscle movement helps depression and boosts your mood.

I guess the point of my long story is that I strongly encourage you to get back in that gym or on that pole or whatever it is that you do because it will make you feel better and feel better about the way you look as well. Those endorphins are undeniable! Good stuff to get hooked on! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

Sorry for going off on my tangent…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_tongue.gif

keep at it – I’ve been hating this one myself but in practice last night I actually went around 2 times instead of my usual 1/2 turn before my feet hit the floor again!
    Yeah!!
I just do it a few times each practice and then move on to other spins so I don’t get too frustrated.
Thanks for the posts about focusing on pulling the knees up and being sideways – that helped.

I think the evil one for me will remain the boomerang – my legs won’t stay up!!

What’s another word for the boomerrang? I’m not familiar with that name…

you guys i got my first time on the pole!
it was a rough morning, cuz we went to chicago last night to see white lies (fun, front row in small venue) and when i was driving back i was so close to falling asleep! then i didn’t get in bed til 4 and had to go to class at 11am. THEN i think i forgot my stupid atm card IN the atm in chicago–it sucked it in and i never use those. so i had to call and cancel (they said it automatically destroys if you leave it)–and i forgot my heels! 1 other girl didn’t have them either so its ok. so no sexy strut https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif

but our class did really well! we did so well on the basic switch-your-foot-over as you push out and spin around that they showed us the fireman?
and i did really well at that! i have to admit i think i have an advantage because i have watched sooooo many videos of you girls doing practice and stuff https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif aha
you put your outside leg around and then push off and cross at the ankles. the other girls had quite a bit of problems with it, i don’t know why i could tell what to do by watching really easily, aside from watching hours of you guys https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif all she said was, "Perfect" https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    !!!!!!
and i really like the exercises and stretches–this pole is really useful for more things than spinning! way funner than boring situps and stuff.
then another girl was climbing the pole at the end, so i did, and the teacher said no climbing without a spotter.
but its so fun! i’m telling you i am going to monkey that pole https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif ordered Thur to arrive Wed approx https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

    omgosh
i’m bummed we don’t get class next sat for easter, but i’ll have you girls and veena’s lessons i hope https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif $300 plus $70 for class burns the wallet https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

so. i’m SO happy it went well for me, i have a good feeling about this.
and my wrist-upper arms are already really sore! crazy

    thanks again andrea/veena/all u for the info/fun/skills https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
i’m dying to do the cartwheel mount, wonder how long that will take??
and i’m nowhere near the splits but still probably the farthest in the class https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
    kinda long i know https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
at least for a first run, you don’t know how happy i feel to find something i might actually be good at!!!

    lis

I’m so happy you had a good time at your first class! I remember my first class….I was so intimidated and excited and ambitious at the same time LOL. So will you just go once a week?

I’m a beginner and I have a 50mm. It’s all I know for now so it works fine for me LOL. and from what I hear if I ever come across a 45mm I won’t have much trouble adjusting, opposed to the other way around https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I keep my xpole in my bedroom and there isn’t as much space as I would like all around it. I cant extend my legs fully all aorund it and it can be pretty annoying. I think if I just had a little bit more room where the wall is I’d be perfect. I have some vids up of my pole so you can take a look and see how much space I have and kind of compare it to your space. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

don’t watch Veenas after baby videos!!!! She’s an alien pole dancing life form! LOL, I wasn’t pole dancing around the time I had my kids but I can only imagine how hard it would be to get back in the saddle after so long and with the changes the body goes through with pregnancy.

Did you dance at all while pregnant?

June 28, 2009 at 4:44 am in reply to: Another Reason Why I Love X-Pole!

i have an x pole and i dont think i love it. I have had it over a year. Ive used it once or twice its too slippery. and i noticed its chipping in some spots now and ive barely used it. I was thinking about getting the gold one is it more sticky. I doubt x pole would take mine back now. but i regret not getting the gold one. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bigsmurf.gif

One of the first things I noticed when I got my x pole was it’s slipperyness. I couldn’t do jack on it and I was kind of depressed because in my classes (where they use brass) I could do better spins and such. It took some getting used to (and lot’s pf practice) but I’m better now. I still haven’t taken a class with a brass pole since I got it but I’m hoping I’ll do a lot better then.

I have only ventured into spinny mode a few times but I watch a lot of videos and it looks like the further your body is out from the pole (like an extended butterfly) the slower you go and the closer you are to the pole ( like a fireman) the faster you go.

Again…this is just my guess from what I’ve "seen", not done LOL. I could be wrong. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
