I def agree, there should be categories. There were so many great dancers in that NY competion. I used to take lessons from one of them – Jessalyn Medairy at Xpose Fitness in Maryland. I can do a lot of the stuff she does but the difference is the WAY you do the moves. How you hold yourself, your lines, your energy, your showmanship, your creativity, your speed, your flexibilty, your precision. It takes people years to get that good!! Most of the best pole dancers have childhood gymnastics, ballet, tap, etc under their belt. Sometimes I feel like they are on par with olympic contestants. The fitness level is through the roof!! It would be nice to have a contest for average, middle of the road girls like me!

OMG!!!! I go to xpose and I worship Jessalyn!!! She is amazing! I totally act like a groupie everytime I see her LMAO!!! I even posted some of her youtube vids on here recently to show people some of the instructors there. Where do you live Angel?

Aww man I wish they had a beginner level! The studio I go to holds an annual competition but it’s run kind of funny.

    Like, there are different levels you can compete in;

Pole Princess (no inverts) vs. Pole Diva (anything goes)

But in the end there is only one winner, so the princess’s will end up competing with the diva’s and I don’t know how flashy a routine without inverts can be, especially when you’re competing against people who invert!

    ….it’s wierd https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_neutral.gif

    Hi, I’m Charlotte.

I was wondering . . how do you know which size your pole should be? 45 og 50 mm?

Hi Charlotte! I don’t think there is a size that your pole "should" be, I think it’s more of a preference. have you ever used either of the two sizes before? Is there one you prefer?

I personally use a 50mm because it’s easier to go to 45 to 50 then from smaller to bigger, so if you ever come across a pole say in a class (studios generally use 50mm) you won’t have a hard time getting used to the pole. I’ve heard people say that have problems gripping a 45 with their legs. I wouldn’t know because I’ve never used one that small. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/alien.gif

I started a pole dancing group at meetup.com for all chicago ladies (18 and over) who are enthusiastic about pole dancing for either fun or fitness. I haven’t been fortunate to meet any girls who enjoy the pole as much as some of us here on Studio Veena. So if there is anyone out there from Chicago, please look up the group…once you get into meetup.com run a search for "Chicago Ladies Pole Dance 4 Fun & Fitness." All you need to do is request for membership. I would love to meet all the Chicago ladies who are members to this wonderful website!

There seems to be a large pole community in the Chicago area. I’m jealous. I’m fortunate enough to have a studio to go to but I haven’t really clicked with anyone there yet. Maybe I don’t go often enough…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

Yeah. Those darn guys. always having the upper hand https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

I thought they would do more dancing too. Not that weightlifting isnt great for weightloss and dance as well but I thought it was more focused on "dancing" your ass off, not exercising your ass off.

LOL, I don’t think I’ll ever get him to pole himself. He doesn’t even like to watch other men poling. I’m working on that still….baby steps LOL.

I’m a beginner, I got a 50mm because that’s the size used most often in studios and I take classes too so it works just fine for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

I just caught this week’s episode, and it was actually pole dancing week! I was all excited – even though there wasn’t a lot of actual pole dancing. The pole was more of a prop than anything, almost like decoration, or a garden gnome. But hey, it was decent PR!

I feel the same way LittleC. They barely touched it but it was just nice to see the pole there…on national television no less!

I’m quickly developing a pet peeve for people that call it a "stripper" pole though. I barely ever strip on my pole but I sure as hell do a whole lotta dancing!Everytime I hear that word on TV I cringe, like we’re being set back Lmao!

Ok, I watched. It looks great. I can imagine those oblique muscles working in that move. Just watching made mine hurt. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif You’re so strong. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Oh and by the way….I went to watch the rockstar progression video again (because I’ve been practicing and I needed to see it done again to make sure I was doing it right) and it’s gone…lost in the big crash of 2009 I suppose.

So yeah….I’m gonna need you to repost that ….please? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif
