Thank you Sissybuns and faerie9 , Im gonna try to get by climbing left handed/legged and eating a bannana before I get on the pole and see how that does. I appreciate all the input.

Let us know how that goes. I’m curious to find out.

    Hi chili,
I only have a straight edge and aysha with split grip. Once you said you were comfy with your SG butterfly I was going to suggest you try it with that grip but if it’s hurting you and your body is telling you to rest it, you’re doing the right thing by listening. Plus a lot of people say the SG aysha is more difficult then the elbow or forearm anyway. I just recently got a Forearm grip by learning to do the caterpillar climb and I would agree with chemgoddess on working on that to help you get more comfortable with that grip.

I did P90X and loved it. The workouts are intense though and it’s sometimes difficult to mix pole in there too since you should give yourself a day inbetween working a muscle group and pole is pretty much a full body workout so you’re always going to have a muscle group that you’re suposed to resting but you’re going to end up using it when you pole. You know what I mean?

    Did that make sense? LOL

Papermoon I suggest you try veena’s lessons too https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif . I signed up for her lessons when I first got my pole and I still use them to this day. One of the best parts about them is that they’re in order of difficulty, you just start from the begining and go! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

When you say shooting pain that travels, the first thing I think it some type of nerve problem. Is it only when you climb? Are there anyother moves that cause the pain? Maybe your toe is cramping up. Cramps can be caused by dehydration or electrolyte imbalances. Sometimes eating a banana before you work out helps. And of course when in doubt (or pain) go see a doctor.

I agree with everyone else. It will get better.

Pole sitting was so hard for me when I first started. I had to work on it alot. Don’t fret, you’ll get there. Give it time.

Thank you all so much! My mom has a lot of light weights that she should be able to let me borrow. She just recently started some odd exercise routine, so maybe not. But I always have canned food at the apartment! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I’m pretty flexible already, I just want to work on my flexibility and prepare my body for actual exercise. I dance at school, but mostly that is only small amounts of stretching and some easy dancing, since I student assist a beginner class. Knowing my luck I’ll barely touch the pole and get five bruises and a hurt wrist https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif , so I will try to get some routine going with those exercises. Again, thanks for replying! I already had my first donation towards my pole, so I’m excited to get started. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I’m excited for you!!! I second what Stellarmotion says. Those beginning exercises veena does are great for building strength. Pushups are your friend. So are dips and pulls ups (if you can find somewhere to do them safely LOL). If you start working out now, you’ll progress nicely through the moves when you start https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

    And yes….stretch…stretch….stretch!!!!!!

I was sooooo bummed about the weather https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mad.gif

I even booked my flight to fly home early from FL so that I would be able to make the pole jam! Stupid snow!!! I played at home on my poles for a bit, but pole jamming with two cats is not the same as with twenty polers, lol. Sigh! Next time!!

LOL, no it’s not the same at all. I should have made sure I had your contact info so you could have come over. Definitley next time!

December 23, 2009 at 4:49 pm in reply to: boots for bigger calves..legs?

I have really small chicken legs so I have always had a problem finding boots that don’t sag on me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif
Do you have any boots that fit good Empy?

My calves are pretty slim…always been my slimmest body part but my main problem is that my feet are SO big that most shoe manufacturers seem to think if you have big feet you must have big calves so boots seldom fit right.

I wear a size 11 in boots (10 in street shoes) and the calves are always big. Not sure that’s going to be a good comparison for you because I guess it partially depends on what size shoe you wear? Maybe?

My calf is 13.5 inches. In Ellie boots, I have a pair of knee highs called "Lori" style number 551. They fit OK but not
"tight". I still have to watch my grip when I invert and allow for some slippage but they aren’t actually baggy around the ankle or calf. Just not skin tight.

My calves are 13 inches too and I also wear a size 10 LOL. Long floppy skinny feet to go with my skinny legs. When ever I do find a good brand that fits, I’m really gonna stick with it.

    Hi Freakiel,
Are you going to the Arundel Mills location? I’ve never done one of their open pole sessions but don’t they have an instructor in there is it just folks who wanna pole?

I have a pole to return there from this weekend, maybe I’ll come and jam with you guys for a bit (since I didn’t get to meet you this past weekend) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

that’d be great! and i’m pretty sure there is no instructor.

    Cool, I’ll see how I feel tomorrow…

Okay so. I have made a couple of videos and have attempted to upload them but when i encounter technical difficulties several times i looked at it as if it wasn’t meant to be. I have a big butt and i want to make a pole video to show how much i have progressed but i don’t want my videos to be seen as trashy. I also don’t want to show too much because this is an open site and i don’t want my videos shared. I wish there were privacy settings for the videos you post. I read the disclaimer before trying to upload my video and it made me think twice. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif However i would love to be a part of this dance community it makes me feel motivated to continue to be a great dancer.

    Hi ShayShay,
The videos uploaded here can only be seen by members of the site. It’s true that anyone can become a member but I doubt there are many people going through the trouble to make a fake account to watch a bunch of fully clothed (for the most part https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ) Pole dancers. Like Jenn said, they can see everything here (and much more) on other free, public sites like youtube or whatever porn site suits their fancy. But….if you’re that concerned but wanna show us your progress (which I know I wanna see!) maybe make a vid where the lighting doesn’t show your face that well or dance in the shadow of a light in another room? I have videos with my whole ass out damn near and I don’t worry about pervs logging in to stalk me LOL. Hell, if they did I might be flattered.

    Hey, a fan is a fan! LMAO!!!! J/K……….no I’m not……..
