Hi, I’m Serzi. I’m an old school poler from Michigan and have resided all over the state. I lived the first half of my life in the Upper Peninsula, then moved below the bridge to the Lower Peninsula about 20 years ago.

What first brought me to SV was a video Veena had posted on YouTube wayyyyyyy back when it was still the Myspace days. It was one of the first “Monthly Challenges” and she was dancing in tie-side shorts to Korn’s song “Coming Undone”. I was probably new to pole at the time and had just bought an X-Stage from Karol Helms. I remember I was searching desperately for full tutorial videos at the time and then realized Veena had an entire site dedicated to it.

I was hooked. I pretty much had no use for any other site in my earliest days of pole except to keep in touch w/ non-polers. Almost all of my friends were members on here at one point or another and, lemme tell ya, it was a Golden Era I deeply miss.

So, what happened? Well…life, of course. One by one, all of us had our own personal trials and tragedies which seemed to rip us away from our beloved sanctuary that was pole. Many become first time parents (myself included), others suffered with loss of loved ones (ditto), health problems (yup), demanding careers (you get the idea), and just life problems in general seemed to get in the way of being able to participate.

There were several times I’d renew my membership and, each time, another unforseen circumstance would prevent me from dancing again. Tbh, I’ve kept my foot in the door because I love this site, but I’ve ended up feeling like an outsider because I am unable to dance anymore. Pretty much everyone I interacted with on here has either been dormant, distant, or even deceased for quite some time. I still check in, though, because even though I don’t dance I love to be a part of pole somehow. I felt most alive when I was up there, and seeing others finding themselves through dance makes me want to get up there and experience it all over again. In fact, long before I ever poled I admired the art of expression through dance. So…I will always be a part of it somehow and encourage anyone else to begin their journey.

Btw, some of the best days of my life started with the friends I met on SV.

    Thank you, Veena.

This sucker, right here. Many a bruised thigh and pelvis trying to spin this into something pretty, ugh.

There was also a transition spinning move which involved a side-climb in which you could get into a cradle spin or Superman, but I don’t believe I ever saw it used as a spin alone. It was always used as a transition because the spin required an exit strategy into something else.

Idk, your link ain’t working for me.

What you’re describing is what I learned as a variation of a Front-hook spin from Karol Helm’s Pole-a-pedia YT videos way back in 2007. There were numerous variations, my favorites being the Forward-falling spin and the Front-hook kick spin. Pretty sure Veena had them on here under a different name, but same thing.

Please forgive the poorly timed screenshots, but they involve the points of contact you mentioned. That outer leg sweeps out to bring momentum and glorious crotch-shots while falling forward. lol

    It’s not a front-hook spin?

That’s the worst when that happens, and it seems like it does at a time when you’re vaguely aware “Okay, I need to stop now.”.

I had caught a bad crash on video, idk where the Hell I saved it but it was a great example. I was in a CAR and was toying with it, trying to contort myself into something like a bow&arrow or a half/full moon. Idk but, point being, it was not the right time for me to be messing around with advanced moves I’d never done before. I was too exhausted, sore, and was at a point where I was trying too much too fast. Well, while in the CAR and grabbing the pole near my head, I slipped a bit. This slip then created a perfect 50mm thigh gap and I slammed right down. My arms, luckily, saved my neck as they were in an elbow stand tripod position. Oh, man, though, crunched my back a bit and I flung my legs off. Bruised the Hell outta my hip when I bailed. Ugh. Still remember how scared and pissed off I was in that moment.

Anyway, I don’t think I ever attempted to set up those moves again. I still can do a CAR, but I don’t have any interest in risking my neck or back for some crazy back-bend inverts. Love the look, hate the feel. Maybe someday, but idk. There are plenty of other moves worth the effort that don’t involve such awkward/dangerous positioning and I’m okay with that.

Still, plenty of other times I’ve had a slip or a minor fall but was able to bail out without incident. It def increases body awareness and it’s kinda fun to troubleshoot when you don’t completely lose control in the attempt. That’s how you make progress. The scary shit, though? File it under “Maybe Later/Maybe Not” and get back up there with what you do best. 💜

Sounds like an idea. I may call X-Pole and see what they have to say since they included that footnote. Would be nice to have for some outdoor fun this year.

Pre X-joint I guess would be the issue. My stage was purchased right before the launch of that. I’m kinda grateful I did because it spins faster/smoother than the X-joint poles. Or so I’ve been told.

According to their site, everything they have now is no longer compatible with my X-Stage which was purchased in ’09. There is a note underneath that says I can contact them if I have an older model (which I may do), but I was interested to see if anybody else had something for sale or any info regarding this.

Worth noting, Karol Helms recommended Dry Hands to me back-in-the-day. I tried it, still didn’t do anything for me, but many pro-polers swear by it. It’s easy to make yourself as it’s just isopropyl alcohol and silica.

Rum is fermented sugarcane or molasses and has a thicker, syrupy quality to it. Vodka is derived from potatoes and is a pure form of alcohol which can be used to clean and disinfect surfaces without leaving residue.

Just looked it up, who knew? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

Thank you, I’ll def be giving this a try if I can ever get some quality pole time in.
