I took Natasha Wang’s workshop at last year’s PoleCon. We did a ton of Meathook stuff – the move itself, some variations, entries and exits.
I know that I wouldn’t miss a chance to train with Phoenix! I guess her signature move is the Titanic. She’s so graceful and fluid; I would want to do a dance-based class with her.

Eatvegancookies, I have that “problem” and prefer to wear the Nike Pro 2.5″ compression shorts. They are not low-waisted so they actually cover my entire seat and don’t ride up too bad.

I teach 10 to 15 hours of pole classes, get in at least 3 hours of personal practice, teach an hour of lyra, and throw in some extra floorwork, flexibility, head/hand stand or floor inversions, aerial, or hoopdance per week. Teaching takes up most of what used to be my free time so I do a lot less working out for myself now. But I still get plenty of exercise from it!

Sparrow, David is a huge fan of spins on the static pole, both from the floor and aerially (yes, it’s possible!). Both techniques seem to be under-utilized and he would like to see that changed!

Yes, he really is! I’m glad you enjoyed the interview. 🙂

Here’s part 2 of the interview! Thanks for waiting patiently. 🙂 Please consider subscribing to my channel if you like the interview. I’ve got one up with Rebecca Starr as well and plan on doing more in the future!

Thanks! Yeah, I’ll post part 2 to this thread once it’s uploaded. 🙂

At Defiance we offer co-ed classes but only at the intermediate and advanced levels. All beginner classes are same sex. We have one male-only class per week that they can come to to work up to the level to be integrated with the ladies. I find that it weeds out anyone just coming in to be pervy and it lets the women get comfortable with themselves before having to be scantily clad around the guys. However, our open pole times are co-ed as well.

I've heard Nadia refer to it as the Superman Split. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

I just started an account, have only one photo so far, and don't quite know how to use it yet but you can follow me if you want: @defiancestudios
Once I figure out how to follow other people I'll fo find all of you! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif

Nope, can't legally use Sirius:
"The Service is not authorized for use as an
accompaniment to dancing, use by a DJ or use in connection with a business that charges an
admission fee (such as nightclubs, bowling alleys, fitness centers, skate parks, etc.)."http://www.siriusxm.com/pdf/siriusxmbiz_customeragreement_eng.pdf

Actually, nevermind. It looks like they only cover instructors and not studios. :/

Firebird, thanks for the info! When going through Alternative Balance Therapies, did you select dance or fitness? Also, is pole specifically mentioned on your policy?

There's no link….

Poor placement to enter Allegra or Jade (safe if you are just doing Scorpio, though):
http://48.img.v4.skyrock.net/2936/78372936/pics/3000829825_1_3_NZijtLey.jpgGood placement with pole in the "pocket":
http://www.poleworldnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/28-Inside-leg-hang-Scorpio.jpg
Notice that the pole lays along the ribs and rest behind the arm in the first photo. This is what leads to rib injuries when excess pressure is applied (ie: transitioning into moves like Jade and Allegra). In the second photo, the pole lays mostly along the fleshy part of the torso (the pocket).
Hope this helps!
-
Unless your ribcage rests on top of your hip bones, you have a pocket. Ladies with longer torso do seem to have a harder time of keeping the pole in the correct place though. It's easy to properly place the pole from a Flatline, so I have them start there, then lower down into Scorpio while thinking of pressing the stomach up towards the ceiling to keep the pressure in the pocket. That typically helps them to have correct placement.
-
Like Korinne said, it's all about your body placement. You need to make sure that you are getting the pole in what Pantera calls the "pocket" – that space between your bottom rib and your hip bone.
When in Scorpio (or anything that comes off of that move) you feel the pole pressing into your ribs you'll know that your placement wasn't right. Lots of people have fractured ribs from turning into Allegras or Jades with bad placement on their torso.

I shot a video of this move today:

Hmm…haven't tried it on a 50mm yet. I may have to give that a shot.
-
I finally managed to get this one today, even if only because it's ridiculously humid at the moment! No foot but with the neck hold. Shocked myself. Pretty sure I'll only have it on days that my skin is being pulled off by the pole, though! 😉
-
Good luck, Katana! I'll cheer for you if I get to watch any of your events. 🙂
Becca, awesome! Sounds like that'll be our only class together…I'm training with Oona on Friday, Michelle on Saturday, and Charlee on Sunday. I'm sure we'll see each other at the parties, though!
