    Sort of like on YouTube…
    1 star=bad
    5 stars = super good…

+ on a comment means you agree with it
    – means it was rude or you don’t agree

OMGosh Amcut those bellydancers can be so snobby. They have their own little dancing clique and I’m so not into that stuff. Even in HS I was the girl going, "Can’t we all get along?" I mean, they are working to get rid of stereotypes and myths but so are we! Why can’t be band together and be sisters/brothers in arms? I just didn’t like the whole "My sexy dance is cleaner or better or more authentic than your sexy dance". https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif Oh and one lady was like, "I wouldn’t mix bellydance with your pole dance." And I just thought…. "Beeetch, I’ll do what the faaack I want!" Bellydance didn’t actually start in brothels, it was a private dance that girls shared with each other. Probably once the Europeans found out about bellydance they wanted to see it and the only place women could do that was in brothels. Isn’t that sort of like many forms of dance though? They start out in the streets or in speak-easies but they climb their way up in society? Sheesh… Let it go! Love love love!

Oh my gosh I loved this post… I wish there was a way to add it to a favorites or something.

I think some of it has to do with people being old-fashioned. My mom immediately took my interest in pole dance with something degrading. "How can you show so much skin and still be decent?" But when flappers showed their knees in the ’20s it wasn’t that much different. Things change and a lot of people have trouble letting go of the past.

And yes there are still many many many issues when it comes to gender equality. Men still make more money than a woman if they hold the same position or job title… men still have a lot of power and say in gov’t (think of the percentage of males in power vs. women and we are on the low side)… more women get sold into sex slavery or get physically mutilated (think of FGM in Africa). So when women try to seize power or be powerful through their femininity or sexuality it is automatically a deviant act. *sigh*

He thinks that everything I do for myself should be for him too.Oh men, they like to think they have dominion over all. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
It’s good that you guys are going to talk things out. I push my hubby to talk to me even if he doesn’t want to or says, "I’m tired, not now." I always say, "No, NOW!" By the end of our convo we are tired but we know why we were pissed. *hugs*

I don’t feel that the way I dance now is sexual in nature. I do it for me.And that is the way it should be… dancing is something very personal.

Oh don’t be embarassed! He loves you and hence he supports you, why else would he have gotten married to you? https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

I dance infront of the hubby all the time and it doesn’t bug me even if I can’t get a new move or trick. Most of my stuff isn’t sexy though because I look at it as a workout or a challenge. A lot of times when I improve he will go "Wow" or "Good Job!" and I’m glad I have a witness to show that I’m getting better.

Scandalicious, so it is like $90+ now? I paid about $70 total but when I first looked at the DVD’s it would have cost me $60 total. *sigh* I’d just keep an eye on the exchange rates or wait after summer.

Yeah the price change has everything to do with the exchange rate. Summer time doesn’t seem to be the best time for exchange rates either… I think it has all to do with the fact July-August is tourist season.

You shouldn’t be inverting in a beginner class! If the teacher threw you guys straight into advanced stuff in your first class I would have advised you to go to another school. And you need those basic spins and transitions later on or your pole dance will not look like a dance but a succession of tricks.

Have you read "Am I ready for an inversion?" by Fleur in the Pole Moves section of the forum? She made some good points and guidelines for pole dancers looking into inverting.

I guess I just don’t see the reason for all the stigma about the human body. We all have butts… we all have boobies but generally women’s are bigger… and we all have privates. So what? Get over it!

But I understand that’s me and part of my upbringing and not everyone shares that view.

xpole or platinum stages? anybody do any comparisons? There are several poles that are good, X-Pole isn’t the only one! Sorry, I own a PS Multi-Piece Super Pole so I’m always defending it… everyone owns an X-Pole here. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Platinum Stages has removable and permanent poles. Their removable ones are stainless steel so they are not as grippy at first and cost a little more than the X-Pole. I like my pole but you’ll be happy with either the X or the PS.

I like it! Bigger avatar & screen-name was a good idea. I also like the smaller "subject" line for each reply in a topic.

Yeah I would take classes if I had any near me. I would love to have someone show me all the little things that make a move "work" and look good. When you watch a video you really have to pay attention to hand placement and all that. Art of Pole is good for that though, Jamilla shows where to place your fingers and everything.

My hubby was so worried I was going to drop a couple hundred on a pole and stop using it after the first week. He thought I wasn’t going to like it or something but boy was he wrong!

August 2, 2009 at 10:49 am in reply to: Wrist pain

There are girls bigger than you pole dancing so don’t worry about that…….

If your wrists hurt during the pole sit you might be doing it wrong. I tried it once or twice and I’m waiting until I’m stronger because it is not as easy as it looks. I have a feeling that it an intermediate move. You are supposed to sit on the fleshy "triangle" part past your index and thumb finger and right before the wrist. And when you sit you aren’t actually sitting like in a chair but your hips have to be totally rotated towards the pole like in the "Layback".

My wrists hurt at first too… outside and inside. Outside because my skin was rubbing on the pole and it burned. Inside because I wasn’t used to working my hands and arms. Before pole dancing I had trouble doing push-ups and I thought it was because I had bad wrists (like brittle bones or something). Now that I have pole danced I can do push-ups and I realized my wrists were weak not bad.
