Dont know what your boyfriend is expecting you to do, but just tell him you will be trying a few moves. Ask him if he will join you to learn a few moves. if he says yes say great and have a good sense of humor about him possibly having more strength than you on the pole. if he says no he just wants to watch again wait till he is eating sit close and watch him. when he asks what you are doing say watching him. when he gets uncomfortable just mention that he is doing something he does everyday and someone watching him makes him uncomfortable and at the moment that is the way you feel when you think about him watching you
the first time my current boyfriend asked to watch while I was practicing (mind you i was already two years in) i said this won't be pretty, i will be sweaty, messy, focused. if you are there you will be expected to spot me and again this won't be pretty.

Yes I always where a cotton thong underneath my shorts because my shorts have shifted and it did stop everyone from seeing my lady parts

Todays WOD was
5 pull ups
10 push ups

i made 8rds and 10 push up, 15 air squat, and 1 pull up. So close to 9 but the skin on my hand started to come off.

i have been doing some crazy workouts with crossfitters that has been a mixture of jumping, heavy lifting, body weight exercises, speed, running, serious core strength, and awhole bunch of sweating. since last checking in I have done 4 crossfit workouts, 1 day lots of walking, 1 day stretching, 1 day teaching 1 pole class

I have been day dreaming about this competition and so sad to not be going. There are a few ladies i dont follow online but have seen their videos or live and are amazing
My feelings are so mixed and love so many of these competitors
I am in the same boat with glitterhips and love karol bcs i have been watching her so long.
Leigh ann reilly because she has great flow and style and does so much for the pole industry
Then there are others like Natasha, shelly, and allison who all have been regulars on forums and youtube who i have immense respect for and have seen them transform in videos.
Denise Brown floored me at the first nationals, wait and watch all of her videos, and think it is great she is back.
Estee has amazing transitions and strength.
Mina's natural sex appeal is magnetic
Oh my head spins thinking about it. All of the ladies are amazing.

Sair Feeling much better this morning! Thank you. Glad to hear your 100 days is going well. I bet seeing those 3.5 lbs was gratifying.
Todays Workout of the day. (WOD in Crossfit terms)
The workout was for time the reps per round were preset.
1 Thrusters w 40lb bar – (reps per round ) 21, 15, 9
2 Pull ups – 21, 15, 9
Time 14:34 (my time wasn't great but this was a difficult workout and am just happy to have finished.)
A thruster is a squat with a barbell racked on chest and as you come up from squat the bar goes into an overhead press.

Oh my not having the greatest time with my 100 day challenge. I have been sick for the past week and a half. I have a sinus infection going on and making it hard to do prolonged activity. On the bright side, just started working front desk at a crossfit gym so will have great resources once i am better. Hope you are all doing well with your 100days

dance to it now and dance to it later!

You must have caught something… sounds like…
the DREADED Workout bug! Treatment? A daily dose of endorphins! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_rambo.gif
There is nothing wrong with you! So happy for you! Your body wanting to workout is a good sign.
Yeah I tend to feel sluggish till i do something! On day off, i still walk briskly for a few blocks or do my warm up for dance. Taking off does not have to mean doing nothing, just going lighter and not pushing seems to work well for me. My body craves those feel good endorphins!
Keep on rocking those workouts!

I would be more than honored to help you!
The biggest thing i recommend is think about floor work moves the same way you would think about pole tricks. How can I smoothly get from this trick/floor to the next. If you start to think of your floor moves as skilled tricks it is easier to not think of it as dancing (which can be intimidating) and instead it will feel like a combo.
Get yourself in a room without a pole. Put on some music, work that floor for a song, don't stop even if it feels awkward or doesn't quite feel the way you want it to. Give yourself a few minutes than try it again. Try different ways of standing up and getting down.
A good game to get you ready to practice floor is take two floor moves you would like to use, write them down, and then try to connect them several different ways in your head. Write each of those ways even if you are unsure that they will work. Anything you don't have a name for just describe. Sometimes our brains go blank when we are practicing and do not know who stole all of our good ideas 🙂 . If an idea strikes and there is nothing to write it with, I will text myself the idea. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_geek.gif
Example: Two moves i want to connect -1st move- Bicycle -2nd move- Shoulder stand Combos: 1) Bicycles-> Bicycles legs open-> Backroll->lay flat-> Shoulder stand 2)Bicycle->sit up sexy->gently roll to knees -> slide forward down to floor-> Floor bodywave->shoulder stand to split.
Make at least 4-5 different combos for each two moves you pick even if there is only one transition connecting them. Then try them all out a few times to see which you like best and those that still need work.
If you have veena's lessons, she has a lot of floor work in her beginner lessons, the elbow lift in intermediate, and the shoulder stand and roll in the advanced. Plus in her beginner section there are a lot of transitional things that are really useful on the floor like body waves. There is no way in posts i could convey all the wonderful things there.
Video yourself, watch, rewatch. The more you watch it the more you will see what looks great and what needs to be fine tuned. Plus then you can upload a video and all of us can give you specific feedback, ideas, and help! It can be scary to upload your first video, but this is a great supportive place and everyone here wants you to do well. Let us know whatever you need!

Do not be afraid of no sugar added fruit juices it will allow you to get some extra calories in there. Try drinking low fat or non fat milk. I drink lattes because i can't stomach plain milk. When feeling like desert I go for chocolate milk or hot chocolate (better than the ice cream I want).
Yogurt Pops- get yogurt (plain or something without lots of sugar in it, i use lowfat vanilla greek) Chop up some fruit very tiny, mix it, put in pops, and freeze. You can get frozen pop holders at the dollar store, walmart, target

Just did this today! I am interviewing with a crossfit gym to be their receptionist and they invited me to come workout! It was awesome.
Todays workout!
after 400meter light jog and a light overview of exercises in the workout. no weight added nor forcefully done just to get the form right.
Work out
800 meter jog ( about .5 mile)
50 thrusters (holding a bar in front just above shoulders squat down, thrust up bar over head, and back down)
800 meter jog
50 Ball wall throw squats (hold weighted ball squat down, thrust up, toss ball up over head gently hitting wall, catch ball, and squat down to repeat. The exercise is physically hard but not coordination wise)
800 meter jog
50 burpees ( i <3 burpees but they were really difficult after all that)
800 meter jog
For beginners they did half that, 400 meters, 25 of each thing, and for anyone really new to working out only had to go to wall ball squats. They had modified versions of the exercises too. The advanced people did DOUBLE what i did. They ran 4miles all together, did 100 of each exercise, and some of them had heavy bars and balls!
It was a really great experience. I can see getting really into it!

YES, the first six months or so every time learning a new move I was sure my ungraceful uncoordinated behind was going to get tangled, stuck, and then plop to the floor. It took awhile to believe I was capable of figuring out moves with help and more importantly on my own.
Whenever trying a move now I KNOW and expect to get tangled up and make a mess of things. (never in an unsafe way though 🙂 ) It is an important part of my learning process. As the move becomes learned and practiced, I untangle it little by little and really understand the move.
So i say embrace the tangling of limbs!
Just keep watching Veena's lessons and one day you will have magical moves!

Debbie the girls are giving you great advice and I am going to back them up. Depression has been my worst enemy since moving away from my hometown and almost everyone i know a few months ago. There are days I do not want to move out of my bed, like today, but forcing myself to get up and dance for at least a half hour. These days i do an extra long warm-up/dance-up. Usually by 30minutes into the pole session I am not ready to stop, today ended up dancing an hour and a half. Something you wanted to do least could end up being the thing that makes you feel best.
Taking care of yourself both physically and mentally is important right now. Take care of yourself and surround yourself with people who will do the same.

Poleluvndallas eating under 1200 calories a day is probably why your body won’t let go of the weight. Eating too little calories can shift the metabolism to burn slower to save energy.
-
Foxxy thank you for all the information on the stages! The compatibility of the pole between the stages is a great feature. Glad you will have the option to switch it out.
-
hmm Have not used an x-stage lite yet, but the xstage did not budge at all when i put it on spin and we had people on it from 110lb to 175 lb

I am sure some of the mommies here can let you in on what they did to help their stretching.

Yeah I am with Chem on this your wrist sounds like it is overworked bcs what is dangerous about twisted grip is not messing up your wrist but your rotator cuff. Thankfully if you lay off your wrist for a week or two, work on things that do not put direct pressure on the wrist and ease back onto those tricks it should be ok (unless it hurts extremely bad and then see a doctor) If you mess up your rotator cuff though it could be months before being back on a pole and even once healthy again makes it more likely to become a reinjury.
If you have been picking up everything pretty quickly, we all reach roadblocks remember this may be yours. Breathe first study your videos of your attempts. Rewatch them over and over again. Also watch a video of someone else who can do it well (if you have veena's lessons this is easier since it will be done many times over, quick, slow, and with instruction). Try seeing if you can spot differences in technique.
Can you do a split grip aysha from a butterfly, inverted crucifix, or any other move while already inverted? It really helps to start from there learn the balance and form of the move at the top and then dismount. Veena has a great lesson on the split grip aysha and wish i would have found before learning it the hard way myself.
Whatever you do let that wrist heal FIRST and work on those combinations and transitions of moves you currently know. Chems ideas of trying to stay off the floor for as long as possible and without climbing/inverting are great ideas and will test your stamina and creativity. There have been times I took a whole week or two off from pole. Usually the first practice coming back will be a little shaky but after that I feel refreshed. Sometimes stepping out of the frustration and giving yourself a moment to relax and remember why you love something is enough.
Dont be so hard on yourself! It can be difficult to remember to be nice to yourself but it is so important. Hopefully that is helpful!

If you are not to old to lose 55lbs than you are not to old to pole dance. Losing that much weight shows that you are dedicated and determined which are very important qualities in a pole dancer! Congrats by the way.
As women most of us have naturally weaker upper bodies and a good bit are thicker on the bottom. Just remember in life we crawl before we walk and walk before we run.
Fran is in her early 50's and has been pole dancing several years now. She said she worked out before pole to stay healthy but nothing hardcore like pole.

PS I agree with the other ladies 3 weeks! That is awesome it took me close to three months and it was not pretty.
-
Before quitting a studio, I am with poleophile on talking to your instructor first they are there for you. As much as you might see yourself struggling compared to other girls she probably sees you as progressing quite normally.
As for advancing, It is natural to feel jealous and envy, but remember to step back and realize their advancement is not a reflection on you, what you have been doing, or where you will end up. I was one to always quit something when things got rough but not with pole dancing. My two girlfriends and I all started around the same time. The one was inverting way before me, brittney and the other had a much better flow, stacy. guess who is the only one still poling? Me. They both quit when it got hard for them.
Poling by yourself is a wonderful thing! The first few unguided practices can be awkward but after awhile it really allow you to be free with it.
The ladies give great advice!
