Ouch, indeed! I’m dreading a sneeze, ‘cause man-o-man that’s a killer. Thanks for the tip on the protein and calcium, Mora. I’ve been taking calcium/D supplements to replace milk, that I gave up for lactose intolerance. Guess I’d better kick up the yogurt if I want to get back on the pole this winter! Argh, just one more reminder of my age. Good grief!!
Veena & Amyxshi, I planned to sign up for StudioVeena lessons at the referral of SissyBuns/House of Pole, where I purchased my xpole. I only received it on 12/17 and put it up in my basement. I’m in the process of construction down there, and didn’t have much room, so I spent yesterday rearranging. Still not exactly a great environment, but it has to do for now. I was so thrilled that I finally had some room that I stretched, and started doing some low level moves/spins. Finding the low level stuff kinda boring I figured, since I’d done it once before, I tried to do an inverted mount and I must have moved away from the pole when my leg came up, then slammed back and heard and felt it go pop. I can’t believe I’ve been waiting since 11/4 to start formal lessons, and now that I’m injured they’re starting in a week. It was actually the studio putting me off until January that caused me to buy a pole for home.
Amyxshi, thanks for the link to the “form” site. I’m sure I start in form, but I think my problem is that I don’t have the strength yet to hold my weight. I’m only 115 lbs, but my upper body has never been very strong. Plus I was waiting for samples of iTac2 to arrive to assist holding, and wouldn’t you know, they showed up today!! Geez…
I guess I’ll begin my StudioVeena lessons, when I’m feeling better, hopefully soon!!
    Thanks for the support, everyone…

Hey Hotness..I know how you feel. Believe it or not, when I started I was already quite strong. I was quickly schooled when I started poling lol! Poling required specific targeted strength that my body was not used do. I weight train several times a week and it helps a bunch, but with all new things, I found certain muscles being worked that I had not thought of. ( like forearms yikes!) What I have learned is that strength is a progression that must be built over time, it will all come back to you. I am so excited for you and your new space. Having someplace to call your own private space is heaven. I have my pole smack in front of the television…needless to say, I feel like I’m always being watched LOL! Best of luck with you healing my dear. xoxoxoxo

i will totally agree with veena here. and add that i have had countless students who THOUGHT they were doing a spin correctly but were not engaged properly and had chronic injury as a result. when you are doing a split grip hold or a prayer slide hold, you MUST engage your shoulders. you should ALWAYS be pulling your shoulders down and away from your ears and pulling your shoulder blades together in your back. when you are doing a spin, one handed or two, you MUST engage your shoulders. i dont agree with everything on this site, but a good website for at-home learners to understand what i mean is here:

    http://www.poledancingexpression.com/pole-tips-pole-hold.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I absolutely LOVE this page. I think this is an excellent view of the shoulders down and back. Sometimes it’s hard for people who have never had to engage the shoulders consciously to actually visualize it. Thanks for posting this example, I am certain it will be helpful to others. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

➡ No, no classes around here. closest is 30mins 1 way and the teacher knows a lot less moves than I do so idk about getting help there.

https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_arrow.gif thanks for the linmk and the advice!

Girl I will be honest…getting the hands on from an instructor once in a while does help immensely. I have been known to drive over an hour to get to studio here (one way). Some moves are really easier to get once an instructor can watch you and help you physically get into the move. I think it helps also to have some support, then you can go home and try again. I apologize, I don’t have much advice on the Jacknife as I haven’t tried it out yet. Good luck with it though, any new move is a good one https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I can’t wait to see when you do get it, I will do the happy dance with ya!

If you’re on a budget, I say just go with Veena’s lessons. (Even if you’re not, I highly recommend them.) She breaks all of the moves down fabulously, has several floorwork and transition vids and has now even put up some routines. The lessons are seriously amazing–they helped me finally understand some moves I was struggling with and now I have really clicked with them. I say if you like a certain style of dance, i.e. the Bespun girls or something like that, get the video just to get insight into how they move and whatnot, but as far as the actual technicality of the moves, I would say definitely go for Veena’s lessons. I love them.

I agree with you. I got Leigh Anne’s vids just because I love her style and her movement, I’m a big fan of her sexy flow ( LOVE IT). But for technicality purposes I like the breakdown Veena gives in her vids here.

I have veena’s lessons, art of pole, and leigh anne Norsi’s lessons all three vids.
I like the art of pole because The videos do a good job of teaching the moves. One let down for me was the transitions. I felt I had a definite lack of danceability once I went through those videos, but they are good for spins, inverts and things like that.

Leighanne’s vids were good for me because I like her style overall. I like the way she moves and I wanted to learn how to be a bit more sultry. Her videos are built on beginner, intermediate and advanced combos rather that individual moves one at a time.

Veena’s videos are excellent for strength, flexibility, spins, floor work, inverts, static holds…you name it. It is all right here. AND AND the best part is that Venna will assist you in any way you need with a move if it is difficult. I like that they stream really well on the internet and can be taken anywhere…(even on my iphone)

I have to say the clear winner for me is Veena’s lessons even though each video collection offers something different. Veena’s lessons are more comprehensive for the price. ( which a year is equal to the price (99.00) of the art of pole and the three leigh anne vids)

there’s my two cents https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Hope this helps.

Okay I am actually working on this right now.( this very minute, like I’m typing this on my couch still in my drawers lol) I JUST got it for a sec. What I learned about my body position is that I have to really lean far away from the pole before I lift the lower leg. If I elongate my torso away from the pole then I have anough tension on the top leg to lift the bottom and lean away. I didn’t know just how important it is to lean far away first…meaning I was like totally stretched away and my belly fat wat taught (lol) before I lifted the bottom leg. Like veena teaches, I kept a chair in case I needed to lean on it but I didn’t need it until I tried to get down. I actaully let go of BOTH hands…very happy. Now I gotta train my muscles to remember this. Hope this helps! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Spoon girl…I have the xpole xpert…it does have joints but the connections are smooth as butter. No pinches just love! I started with a lil mynx black one piece and it’s different because of the finish but both poles were equally as smooth. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif I hope you find what you are looking for. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I’ve had the Brazillian blow out. I thought it was awesome. (I’m a black girl, so this is huge) It removed ALL the fluffiness from my hair. I did not have any frizz or fluff after my Brazilian and blow drying my hair was reduced to 1/4 the time. Although my hair did not become flat straight, it did handle easier and when I did flat iron it, I did not need too much product and it flat ironed really super flat and with amazing shine. The treatment I got only lasted 6 weeks. I was told that the more treatments you get the more effective it is so I settled for a shorter lasting product so that I wouldn’t have to wait so long to treat the roots that were growing in fluffy. However, I decided not to do it again because it is very expensive. The treatment cost $250, and that is a steep price.
    good luck!

I’ve had no problems at all. On a weekly basis I’ll move the pole between my bedroom and living room depending on where I feel like poling. I also manage this by myself and I’m not the strongest person. I do have low ceilings though so my pole isn’t a high one which might make it more difficult to put up alone.

remedy for tall celings..once you find the stud, put a piece of painting tape up there in the ceiling along the beam. it’s about the same width as the stud and then you never have to get up there and find it again…or you can draw a pencil circle around the dome..I’ve got a big x made with blue painter’s tape so I don’t have to find my stud and I can put up my xpert all by myself…I usually prop it against the couch and pust hand over hand until it’s upright then jostle it until it’s in teh middle of the X. works nice for me. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
