Hi,
Well I’m driving 2 hours to my lessons, so I take them one day a week at the moment. Tommorow I am taking a group lesson (45 min) and a private lesson because I did find 1 class that can fit into my schedule for the next few weeks. Ideally, I’d take them twice a week but 8 hours in a car for 2 hours of lessons is excessive.
They are a lot of fun and I know I need the feedback so I don’t develop bad habits. Once I go back to work I will need to rely more on dvds and veena’s online lessons.

Hi,
Well compared to Canada that is pretty good. Your first class is a bit more expensive but if you get 50% off all additional classes, you save in the long run.

Hi,
I think all pole studios should have private rates on their website. I generally don’t spend money on myself but after attending a pole party I knew the only way this wasn’t going to be another thing that I went "oh, yeah I should try it" and never get around to trying it was if I started right away and the only way to do that (and fit it into my schedule) was private lessons.
The day after the party, I looked at the company whose pole party I went to and on the web (company 1). The other company (company 2) in the closest city had private rates and emailed back within hours so they got my business. I’m glad because the instructor is awesome and I think she is better than the instructor from the first company (she was good, but not great).
It really was a matter of who had the information available. I have a second job doing home parties (cooking related not poling) and I am actually considering contacting some pole companies that do pole parties to offer them my services because at a typical party that I do I generate at least 3-4 leads for future parties and usually book a few on the spot. I noticed at the pole party that company 1 (which clearly needs more business) is not doing the best job at picking up on the business prospects at the parties. I KNOW I could increase their business.
So long story short, post those private rates even if you don’t have any private classes scheduled.

Hi,
I’m in Canada – our classes in this area range a bit in price. One of the studios I looked into has 8 forty-five minute classes for 105$ or 8 hour classes for 140 (there are about 10 students for 6 poles – although I don’t know that her classes will fill). Another studio is 135 for 6 classes (10 students/10 poles). Privates are 85$ for an hour or 450$ for 6 lessons.

Hi HockeySoldier,
I actually just ordered my pole. But not until after I’d spoken to my instructor and read lots on this board. I ordered a 50 mm Chrome X Pole. It should be in soon. I am super excited. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_bounce.gif I think I’ll be happy with it.

Hi,
As a newbie, I appreciate the willingness to answer questions. I did read through quite a few posts before I posted and I know some of my questions about poles were repetitive but it felt a bit like information overload. I was having a hard time piecing together what I learned from this post and that post. For example, I got that 50 mm was standard, but I couldn’t figure out the difference between stainless and chrome (as both were less sticky than other poles by the company that produced them). So being able to post my question in my own words helped me get a clearer understanding more quickly. I want to order my pole ASAP but wanted to make sure I don’t order and then think "I wish I’d considered ______ before ordering!"

Hi Ladies,
It was fantastic. I used to run pretty regularly and in the last 2 years I have really stopped exercising, so 2 days later every muscle in my body hurts (in a good way). Because my schedule is so crazy (I work 8-3) and then also consult for a kitchen product company on the side I couldn’t find a class that would fit my schedule (I don’t have one weekday free for the entire summer) so I decided to take private lessons. I really don’t normally spend money like this. I actually am a huge saver, but I figured if I didn’t just dive in and take a few lessons this would be another one of those things that I thought "oh that would be fun" and then never actually did!
My instructor was so nice. I have a horrible memory. I used to have a great memory but I think because my brain never stops thinking about work I have a hard time focusing on something else https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif So she had to keep repeating the instructions for me https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Plus I was just awful. I’ve taught lots of different things (including whitewater kayaking) so I definately know she was awesome, but I thought it was so funny that she kept telling me I was doing great because I could see what I was doing and great is not how I’d describe it https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Hi Ladies,
I live in a region where everyone buys/sells houses a lot so I know that people are really picky. I don’t know if it is also called popcorn ceiling but it sounds the same, basically little dots all over the place. I do plan on selling my house in the next couple of years. It is a pretty new house, but I know we’ll have a fair bit of work to do – painting, refinishing carpets, etc.
Thanks for the info.

Hi Again,
This is all fantastic information. Thanks for taking the time to share. So are you saying that PS stainless poles are grippier than X and Lil Mynx poles? That kind of surprises me so I wanted to make sure I understood properly. I checked out the PS website. The website was a bit more confusing, but it seemed to me that they were more expensive (for non-permanent poles) than the X poles? Other than the grippy issue any big differences between PS and X poles?
Because my studio uses Lil Mynx I’m thinking the X may be the easiest to use (since I do move between 2 houses a lot) and the closest to what I’ll use at the studio.
(Although if I really become addicted I may end up buying a different pole for our second place anyway https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Hi,
Thanks again for the feedback. In Canada, the LM with shipping is still actually cheaper than the X pole by a bit, but I hadn’t really thought through the transportation issue. I don’t really want to be driving through town with the pole on my roof https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif (I live in a small town and I teach high school, so it could be an issue https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif ). I’ve read the thread on having to get a LM worn in so it isn’t too slippy. So if I bought an X do you think it will be a lot different in terms of grip when compared to a well worn in LM pole at the studio or should I be okay?

Hi,
So if I understand correctly, you couldn’t set up your Lil’ Mynx in 2 different places very easily? I spend about 1/2 my time at my house and 1/2 at by boyfriend’s house.

I’d go with the clear re-telling of truth if you don’t feel honesty is the best idea. If you are vague they may think you’ve been beaten and may definately pull their kids out. Saying you do aerial acrobatics or that you bruised in aerobics would be what I would probably do in that situation.

Hi,
I’m new to the board and totally empathize. As a teacher I would suggest you check out the A to Z job hunt forum (it will come up if you google teacher discussion boards) just so you see what kind of market you are stepping into.
Hugs.
