I will be jumping in on this today. Do I start on it as day one or pick up where we would be?

To just be able to pole again. My first day back on the pole in over a year was yesterday. It was pretty humbling. My injury made it impossible for me to lift or do body weight in my time away from the pole. Ugh.

I now live in Pittsburgh and the pole "community" here is a bit underwhelming. My name is Jessie and I am going to try to fix that :-p.

I am not new to Studio Veena at all but I am new to the Pittsburgh area. I also have taken a year hiatus and I am finally able to pole again, at least until January when I have hip surgery. I have yet to find the pole community I am used to from Akron/Cleveland.
I ran Life source Yoga where I created and implemented the first aerial program in that area. I had two years of pole experience prior to that and I taught for about 4 years. While I loved pole and teaching I ran myself ragged. I taught to much, didn't listen to my body, and ended up with a partially detached right upper pectoral and a torn labrum in my hip that caused a cam impingement. I am not even going to mention the minor injuries in my wrist, shoulders, and neck or the lack of motivation, support, and self confidence from a toxic relationship. I was stuck in a limbo and never really progressed past my intermediate level.
Fast forward a year later I have moved to a different state, will have surgery on my hip in Jan, my chest is healed, and I am in the most fabulous and motivating relationship I could imagine. My pole is up and I kicked my ass with just a warm-up I would use in a beginners class. Needless to say I have been humbled. I would like to take the next year working on me and my pole. I have been offered by 3 different gyms to start up a program and was offered a job at one studio. While I will keep them in mind and filed in the back of my brain, I pole for me. I need to get back to that. It also is not fair to introduce pole to students and take it away for 7 months after my surgery.
So in short I want to find a community and people to pole with. possibly expanding on my contacts for performances when my hip is better, and just pole.
Namaste,
Dino

I have been to both FWAT & OMYG. I would love to check out the one with the aerials. Want to make it a date?

Can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow! Best birthday ever!!! I want to meet as many polers as I can so everyone keep an eye out. I just dyed my hair super dark brown almost mahogany so my pics may not help much and I have no clue what I’m wearing yet.

As long as you have a great instructor, like Veena, you can learn at any level even if you are more advance. Plus everyone can work on their fundamentals. I may take the class to see what I can pass on to my students and store in my own knowledge vault. Plus I’d like to pick veena and everyone else’s brain 🙂

I bought Michula’s class last night. I’m going to die lol.

Whoops. That was me. I was logged in under my boss. Double whoops

Hey Everyone,
I will be at the Pole Expo with several of my fellow Cleveland Polers. I decided I want to meet as many of my fellow polers as possible and I have a feeling many of you feel the same. So I had a crazy idea to gather everyone's info and send it to each other. That way we can meet up for lunch, drinks, pole parties in our room, know other people in our workshops, or w/e. If you agree you can send the info to j.l.lotus87@gmail.com I will put it all together and send it out a couple days before the expo. Here is the information I was thinking add more if you would like.
Name Jessie (aka J.L.Lotus)
Cell or Email if you have a smart phone (ill send it in the email)
What hotel you are staying in The Palms
what workshops you are taking. So far Zoraya & Marlo's ass class. I will be signing up for more
Where you from: Akron
Cant wait to see you all!

I can't wait to get into parkour! I have contacted a couple parkour groups in my area. I need to let my sternum and minecus heal first but I am EXCITED!

If they did open an East Coast Office, say in Ohio, I would totally work for them.

I do it alot like jesse. I invert straight into a scorpio then push with the inside arm then straighten.

If you are scared or your body is hesitant there is typically a logical reason for it. To get my students into one handed spins we break it down into steps.
First step:
Mastering the spin it's self on both sidesSecond step:
unwrapping the bottom fingers
Third Step:
Taking that bottom/lower hands fingers straight and rotating the wrist so fingers go up the pole. I then have them push away with the their hand on the pole.Fourth Step:
Starting of two handed but mid spin releasing the hand down
Fifth Step:
Going into it one handed.
Now each spin is different. Spins on the pole are going to be a bit easier and more secure feeling then ones on the side of the pole. Typically the bottom hand is nothing more than a security blanket as the top hand holds a majority of the weight. make sure you are doing both arms and taking the spins in step. Maybe you feel like you will fling off the pole one handed. I did with flying body spiral. so first I practiced chair, then getting my hips in front, then baby hops, then little swings, then I would go for it.
I hope this helps!

It just frusterates me and it seems like this happens a lot in the pole community. Just today I saw a claim from a studio in a different state claiming that all the studio owners in that city had trained there. I happen to know this as false as the one trained with Fawnia. Of course they didn't call her out by name. It really is odd o well.

Because it doesn’t exist kind of like my good referral on veena

First off let me say thank you to everyone. You are all absolutely amazing!
As far as my claims of legal action if I was to take send a ceist and desist I would be ready for an all out legal battle as libel is a very difficult thing to prove in court. Internet law has some blurred boundaries. This is one of the few things that stuck with my from public relations. I also hardly doubt they follow the forums, as she hasnt been seen on here since. Since they endorse the idea that instructors do not need to expand and practice unless they suck, at least that is was I get from reading their website, they do not feel anyone else has anything to offer. As stated by multiple women here practicing with other people and being a student is something that is great for teachers. It expands our knowledge, opens our minds, and can be a humbling experience. As Pam said I take classes whereever and whenever I can even if it is a basics. I have learned so many new things and to think that people have nothing to offer is foolish. And there is also an ass for every seat diffrenet people look for different things in instructors. Some people want to learn to booty shake. I look like an epileptic, they would be better off somewhere else or for me to pay my little brother to come teach someone :-p. On that note can some teach me thow to booty pop or interested in teaching a workshop in akron lol
Ugh and in my post on here I simply stated I would not recommend them. I even put that I if the practiconer was advance that I would not recommend myself. I only teach to an intremediate level, depending on your deffinition of intermediate. Ughh. Some people are so immature.

I have already tried their web-host :-(. On our website I posted that I was not affliliated with any of the studios but the fore mentioned after stating the two studios I work at. Of course our website is under construction because we moved to a larger studio and are under new ownership. It is a bit frusterating. Can't we all just get a long for the most part N.E.O studios are pretty supportive and loving of each other or we at least do not step on each other toes. Of course we have the fabulous Chemgoddess who unites us all, <3 you Pam. Also I have never in my life met the owner. Call me old fashioned but when you open up a studio you usually contact the other studios in the area and at least meet them.
