I had a lot of trouble finding a joist on my popcorn ceiling. So my dad’s suggestion is a maganet. Go to your local automotive store and ask for a Retrieval Maganet. It should look kind of like a pen but in pulls out like an anntenna with the maganet on the end. It needs to be kinda stong…refridgerator maganets won’t work. You just sweep this across your ceiling and it will stick to a nail or screw to show you were the joist is. The one I bought was like 7 bucks. Good Luck!

Okay so still frustrated but not with the Joists…I think I must be mentally off today because I just couldn’t get the darned pole up. I tried and tried…Luckly my friend is coming over tomorrow. I think i’ll have better luck with another person on board.

Thank the dear Lord! My dad is the savior of my life today…After trying everything…2 studfinders, tapping, knocking, and poking holes into the ceiling…he finally suggested a magnet! And it worked! So now onto putting it up! Wow I have had a stressed day. But I am so relieved to have found the joists! Yippee!

Thanks! Its not a suspended ceiling…the apts I live in are older so the ceiling is normal drywall but it moves a bit when I press up.
