YoYo Ma, the great cello player said this:

"There is something so extraordinary about the way Isaac Stern physically carved phrases. He was never not hot-blooded, but he didn’t have overt sheen or vanity in his style of playing, so he made things count with less.

…Isaac Stern said, "In music it’s not about the notes, it’s what happens in between the notes.""

I believe that goes for dancing as well, where your body is your instrument. I’ve seen some pretty incredible moves done, but without the quality of spaces in between, the artistry is lost.

In a way I have found that dancing topless has actually helped with precision when it comes to poling. (There is nothing worse then getting pole burn on your girls).

SOOO — what is the secret to protecting them?? I have a tendency to lose my clothes when I’m dancing and into the music, but after several times of OUCH! I won’t do topless. Somehow I’ve caught my nipple in between my hand and the pole when inverting. Then you have the choice — let go and fall on your head, or slide down in pain. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_eek.gif That’s a pretty big deterrent!

I haven’t been subjected to it personally since I’m not a stripper, but there does seem to be a certain contempt from some pole dancers toward strippers. Like I said, I don’t know why because the art of pole dancing came straight from the gentleman’s clubs, so if you have a love for pole dance, why would you basically dump all over its history? It wasn’t a couple of housewives that got together while their kids were playing on the playground and went ‘Hmmm, you know, it would be really cool if we hung upside down by just our legs from one of these poles. While taking off our shirts.’

LOL — I was out at a park a few weekends ago w/ my hubby and two year old (yes, I’m a housewife). While he was pushing her on the swings, I couldn’t help but invert onto a piece of play equipment and hang by my knees. I had to keep my hands on my belly to keep my shirt from coming off!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_lol.gif We might not have done that first, but we’re doing it now!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

Folks are folks, like other posters have said. There’s ones you like and ones you don’t in every situation. The side of stripping that bothers me is the sales. It is so easy to lose your self in a sales job – especially when you are explicitly selling your time. Everything becomes about getting the money, and ethics get, uh, revised as you go. NOTE: This is nothing unique to stripping.

Hey Erin — We’d love to have you!! The more the merrier!

Miss Julie — I might be able to make an Austin workshop. My in-laws live in San Antonio, and they would always love a visit. They don’t know about my poling yet, though! =)

    Ahhhh… pole jam… I can’t wait!

Morning is a killer for me, so I always will vote for later.

I have a suggestion — we should dance FOR each other as well as with each other. Nothing fancy (unless you wanted to), just turn on some music, and have a couple of girls dance at once, and the rest watch. Rinse and repeat!

    What do you think?

I don’t have this move yet, but I’m working on it. It doesn’t seem like it should be that hard… BUT IT IS!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_twisted.gif And my poor arm! OUCH! Sometimes I can do the spin fairly well, and it doesn’t hurt, but I can’t quite figure out how my body position is different.

One tip that helps me get it sometimes is to make sure I look at my feet when they are in the attitude-like position. This forces my body to curve around a little more.

This move looks so pretty and effortless when done right… Maybe one day, mine will too.

    Oh — and check out the on in this video at 4:50: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlS_yoyDyuw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I really like the way she gets into the spin, and how controlled she is– oh and that she does it one handed!

Can you describe more about where the pain is? The sudden onset sounds like it is muscle related, but figuring out which one(s) are mad can be a little challenging! =) Were you doing anything different in the day or two before it started hurting? Take a hot bath, and that will probably help some. Also, you can try to put your leg into the position where it just starts to be uncomfortable. Then poke around on the thigh of the hurt leg. See if you can find any spots that change the sensation in your hip. Pay attention to see what muscles seem tight when you are in that position. Muscle pain is often referred, so a lot of times, the injury is somewhere other than where the pain is.

As for the bruising, I’m not sure about covering them up, but Arnica works great to get them to fade fast. You can find it at most grocery stores with the homeopathic. I’ve been really impressed with it. The sooner you start putting it on a banged area, the faster it heals. Oh, and the kind I have used is in a really light ointment with no oils to interfere with poling.

    BEST OF LUCK!!

Sigh… the monokinis are SOOOO cute… but they never fit me. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cry.gif I have to get several sized big to have them long enough, then they are too big everywhere else. If they fit on the top and bottom… Material is pulled all up into places it shouldn’t be!! Let’s just say it’s not pretty. Anyone else have this problem?

The tailbone pain doesn’t show up immediately for me, but I feel it the next day. What I found that helped was really squeezing my butt cheeks when I’m laying back. This plumps the muscles up enough so that they take the pressure of the pole, instead of my tailbone. For me, there is also an uncomfortable feeling/pain that centers in the tail bone area (right above my butt crack). I get it when I have overworked my glutes. You can rub them using a hard rubber ball against a wall — or, ideally, get someone else to rub them for you!

Good luck with your sore bottom! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I have this problem, too, and I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio. It’s also when I put on a music track. All my music is already in mp3. This is a frustrating problem…

I’m planning on going to the TGR open house, but I can only stay for about half of it. I’m going to the Ani Difranco concert that night. (And I’m sooooooo excited!) https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_compress.gif
