Wow webmaster that sounds great! How would I check if the content will play on my Blackberry? Is there a free lesson or test that I can do?

    Thanks!

In the comments to the video, it mentions a movie 'Requiem for a Dream'. Place to start looking?

It also says that she had a live violinist for her performance, awesome!

Thanks chem, these are a lot more difficult that what we do (and I think we also call these handspring, or something).

What we do is an invert very similar to a standard invert where you would use baseball grip. But instead of basebal grip we use split grip. Your foot still hooks on the pole, your other foot hangs open in a fan.

we use this as a transition for moves like flatline scorpio, etc.

    Thanks for the clarification!

Regarding how high should your heartbeat be, if you're sweating a bit and you can hold a conversation but need to stop to take a breath, then you're porbably in the right zone. If your face has gone red and you're struggling to breathe let alone talk, then you may be working a bit hard,

Will try find an online resource on heartrate zones by feel to back this up.

I'm also struggling with this move, mainly in my head after a "fall" where my hand slipped off and I had to swing round quickly as my head aimed for the floor!

I'm getting my hubbie to hold me up while I swivel round so I can get the feel of the move, then less holding more spotting, until I can do it on my own. Baby steps!

@ akkis2: Candycane spin? Is this where you move from a armpit grip to a forearm grip and drop your other hand behind your bum? Different countries = different terms eek!

I'm looking for combinations and keen to try this

Hiya Polkadotpoler! Here in South Africa, accessing online music is ridiculously difficult! We have no iTunes, and a lot of sites won't allow downloads for our region. One that we found does work is http://www.gomusicnow.com. Songs are cheap and easy to search for, and I've never had a problem downloading. Not sure if it is legal…

I've been doing the 'splits in 6 weeks' program and I find a similar problem. Remember that when you're doing splits in a demonstration, you will probably use jazz splits anyway (with the knee turned out) but I agree that for increasing flexibility, you need to keep it straight.

When I stretch, I drop down to where my max is and then focus on twisting my upper body slightly towards the front leg to push my hips square. Also, even if it looks like your hips are really open, if your knee and the top of your foot are on the floor, you should be pretty square.

OK, I'm no expert, just learning along the way. Hopefully this helps.

Also remember that straight after a workout you will be pumped from all the exercise. I'm sure it looks more even when you haven't just finished exercising?

AND (grin), remember that no-one is perfectly symmetrical. It's normal to not be normal 🙂

This is probably due to doing most of yuor pole tricks with just the one side? I don't know any magic quick fixes but I guess starting to learn your current pole tricks with the other hand will even them out and give you something different to focus on when poling?

This is a great idea! I did an impromptu striptease for my hubbie last night and really enjoyed it! But I was aware that I repeated the same moves a few times and I'd like to do exactly this, just move and dance and work on new combinations of floorwork.

    Inspired!

If I understand, it's a move we call Barbie spin. You are in split grip but instead of pushing your legs back, you pull them forward into a horizontal V.

I know I find this move difficult because it uses a lot more core strength. I think the key is to keep your distance from the pole with your grip and pull your pelvis forward to bring your legs up.

But maybe get advice form someone who's better at it!

I have started doing the 6 week challenge, hahahaha! Week one first session I was 21cm off the floor. On the first day of week 2 I was already down to 13cm, yay!!

    Will try post some pics

Ooooh, will try those out, thanks!

So far I have Stardust's suggestions (great for start and end, might need something with vocals for middle) and the music from 'The Last Airbender' (also promising!)

I've emailed 2 studios in Asia, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Maybe they will have some local music that is unknown here, how exciting!

I think the comments on cleaning the pole are spot on. From what I've seen, it will take a while to get the pole clean.

Something that might help to trust the pole is to hold it at between waist and shoulder heaight and pull on it. If you can't budge it with a good yank, you won't be able to move it when you spin on it (and I weigh over 80kg so I speak from experince!)

Enjoy the new pole, I'm sure you'll get your groove!
