So...up until super recently, I lived a pretty sedentary lifestyle. My only exercise would be going out to party (drinking & dancing). Never went to the gym, couldn't do a single pushup - nor did I want to. Ever. I did like the idea of being active though, I got a hula hoop, but didn't get around to using it much at all. It just didn't awaken the passion within me at all the way pole does everyday :) I saw some pole videos on youtube a while ago & immediately felt like I just HAD to try it. I went to 2 beginner classes, but felt a love hate relationship to it. Didn't like having to share poles, did not like the way the class was taught, the instructor's style, or the fact that it seemed to be more dancing than pole. I totally couldn't keep up either. I've never had a background in any kind of physical activity... besides doing a few levels of swimming classes. I don't even know how to ride a bicycle. I just never learned to move but always loved watching others do it. Fast forward to March 2013. I had purchased an xpole, got around to actually setting it up, which took me an embarrassingly long time (NOT handy at all), and proceeded to fail miserably haha. I was really determined though, got a gym membership, saw a PT for 6 sessions to learn some ways to build strength, started stretching at home to get flexy. I made a lot of mistakes, overstretched and tore a muscle, so I stopped stretching for a long time. Injured myself in a way that my right hand & arm would go numb everyday really easily. I saw a massage therapist for that & cut way back on pole, and it still took a good 1.5 months to fix. Learned so much from that experience though. Youtube was my teacher until I came here and got Veena's wonderful lessons as well. Just playing around on the pole & figuring things out on my own as well, I tend to learn best by just trying/doing. It will soon be 4 months since I started pole... and it's already weird to think of life before pole because it IS my life now. I am completely smitten, it's all I think about :) I feel weird/shy about putting myself out there on the internet, but everyone here has been so encouraging & sweet. I'm so glad I found this little piece of pole heaven :)
